Corralling the Herd[edit]

Finding a purpose[edit]

  • More than just a common sense of Wikipedia:
    • Anticipate the GLAM needs
    • Anticipate non-frequent editor needs
  • Thematically focused on an end goal, that has plenty of place to go, but doesn't have too limited of an approach
  • Access to a certain audience
    • Wikipedians
    • Volunteers at organization
    • Staff at organization

Incentive[edit]

  • Food
  • Quirky item from the organization
  • Swag
  • Particular people (celebrity and/or authority on a subject)
  • Access to exclusive items or experts
  • Filling a particular gap in knowledge that appeals to people
    • Gender gap
    • Important information
  • Drinks, complaining about vandals and copyright afterwards

Space[edit]

  • WiFi
  • Table Space
  • Plugs
  • Room to spread out
  • Research materials
  • Projector

Cooperating Experts[edit]

  • Wikipedians
    • Be ready to be flexible and do what needs to be done for the organization
    • Ready to teach new users
  • In House at the GLAM
    • Have a vision similar to the Wikimedians on how the event will create content interest.
  • Program Coordinator
    • Knows how to communicate the goals of the organization to Wikipedians
    • Knows how to communicate the goals of Wikipedia to the organization
    • Corralls the Wikimedians to make sure that they come
  • Event Planner
    • Makes sure the logistics happen
    • Does not need to be the Program Coordinator (preferable if it is not)
