Milky Way[edit]

NASA artist's conception of the Milky Way Galaxy, viewed along its axis.
Reason
Stunning, and beautiful. Just look at it in full resolution. It is perfect from my eyes. And "highly" encyclopedic.

  • Oppose. Nominated before at Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/Milky_Way_2005. Same problem as most artists conception: its mainly BS with little scientific value. Pretty though... --Dschwen 17:09, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Upon second reading I realize the comment was a tiny bit too strong. Although I value an artists work I have a problem when it creates the impression of depicting scientific facts. This is definetely not the case with this pic. The schematic illustrations and twin galaxy pictures have far higher enc than this piece. Also, it would be nice, if the nominators checked for previous nominations and elaborated a little more on the reasons for a renomination of a picture which was shot down previously. --Dschwen 17:28, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see, it is fine. I was searching for the previous but I couldn't find it. Now I understand. I will remove this nomination. Arjun 17:31, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Uhm, okay. But despite all the tough talk I'm not the dictator of FPC ;-), so if you'd rather leave the nom for a while just do it. Maybe you'll find a few supporters. --Dschwen 17:56, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
