Original - Hanne Gaby Odiele is a Belgian model.
Reason
A strong image submitted to our image submissions address. I'm not normally wild about greyscale, but it is undeniable that this is the kind of shot you would typically associate with models, and a greyscale portrait was recently kept as a FP. Eyecatching and clear EV.

  • Oppose Portraits have always been a tough category and black & white a double-tough way to go about it. Our Mark Harmon portrait is B&W and it achieved FP status. And even that image (which I find to be quite good), was nominated for delisting based partially on objection to it being B&W. The stated reasoning was as follows: First and foremost is the greyscale- there is no reason for this to be greyscale. There has been significant opposition to noms which are greyscale for no reason (for instance, this is a recent example where a colour image was acquired). Obviously, greyscale is appropriate for historical images, or shots from certain pieces of equipment, but I do not see why it is appropriate here. I guess I party agree with this reasoning. But, unlike the Mark Harmon image, which I found to be a remarkable paradigm for using lighting and B&W for dramatic, eye-catching effect, I simply find the lighting here to be distractingly very stark and alienating. I must admit that I *do* find this eye-catching, but being starkly odd is the wrong way to go about it, IMO. The crop (“a little off the top please”) also seems a bit odd. It simply doesn’t rise to FP-quality, IMO. Greg L (talk) 14:50, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Massive blown highlight. Can you not start running these through Gimp to check before you nominate them? Papa Lima Whiskey (talk) 15:26, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Very well, clearly misjudged this one. Withdrawn. J Milburn (talk) 15:31, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
