Done. Yes, it was the word "Dick's". There is an exception for certain uses of "Dick" in the article content, but not in the summary for some reason. @Someguy1221 and MusikAnimal: Could the filter be modified to allow the same exceptions in the summary? You're right that it wasn't doing the Dick check on summaries, but this false positive would still happen because "dick" is also in a URL. The FP at #Patrialt would have happened too, because Dick was being used as a last name. We could probably do a little better at preventing this kind of FP, but unfortunately it's impossible to make the filter completely FP-free. Adding much more complexity to the Dick checks might require some testing to ensure we aren't letting too much vandalism get through. @MusikAnimal: Thanks. FYI, I think it would have worked here, because the summary contains both "Dick's" and the "dick" in the URL and it only takes one whitelisted word for the filter to skip the whole thing. At least when I try it with grep -P it matches. Same with Patrialt's, where the match comes from the "\b([A-Z]([a-z]+|\.)?|[DM]r\.)\sDick\b" part. Or am I misunderstanding something? Hmm okay yes I believe you are correct. I was going by the debugging tools, but fiddling around with it I can confirm the filter no longer matches this FP or Patrialt. Disregard! I'm going to occasionally monitor 384 today, to see the extent of FPs first hand. I found one (Dick-related) and fixed it, while I've seen a few edits that are legit dick-vandalism. I've also enabled Special:AbuseFilter/637 (old test filter) to see what dick vandalism is getting around 384. Maybe after enough time we'll have a better idea of costs/benefits. — MusikAnimal ^talk 19:47, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

@Suffusion of Yellow: There's some stuff in the log for 637, and the filter history itself, that can't be public. Instead I've moved over to Special:AbuseFilter/1 so you can see the logs. @Someguy1221: 637 (since moved to filter 1) was set up to see how many cases of actual vandalism are slipping by filter 384 because of all the "Dick Name" exceptions. (←) Hopefully not a bug, but I wouldn't be surprised. Anyway I've disabled filter 1, assuming we have enough data to some analysis. I haven't gotten around to examining it, but if you're interested, the idea is to compare how many legitimate uses of "dick" (any capitalization) there are versus vandalism. It may be better to just let the patrollers handle it. Someguy1221 is right that "Big Dick" would currently get through. We could add some more regex to disallow that phrase, in particular, but then what about "Huge Dick", "Massive Dick", "Tiny Dick", etc.? So it looks like the "Dick Name" whitelist does more good than harm, and most of what slips by is caught by ClueBot and RC partollers anyway. I have added sucker and head. I'm okay with that, but adding much more to the whitelisting regex I think may make things overly complex. You're keeping a good eye on FP reports, which I also really appreciate, and if more dick FPs pop up we can investigate further. The article written is false. The numbers of people dogs kill is not in the millions. Dogs are nice and I think this article makes dogs look like beasts that people shouldn’t adopt. Dog are nice animals and that why i think this one should be changed.

I think you misread the article. It said that 4 1/2 million people a year are bitten by dogs, with only 20 - 30 actually resulting in death; both claims were verifiable with reliable sources. Also, while your good-faith efforts to improve the article are greatly appreciated, do note that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and therefore needs to be written from a neutral point of view. I love dogs as well, but our purpose is to prevent only factual information that's relevant to the page; "Dogs are good companions if you are nice to them be nicer to dogs and beware of wild dogs" isn't appropriate for this article. Putting that aside, welcome to Wikipedia; your enthusiasm with trying to improve content is really appreciated - I hope you continue to edit here! @Chimchongchiggedydo: Actually, "1999/2000" just means "either born in 1999 or 2000" so it's not an error. That said, you edits to the articles were not blocked by the filter but reverted by HickoryOughtShirt?4 for being unsourced. It's not enough to simply state that "multiple sources" exist, you will need to cite them in the article. Please carefully read WP:BLPPRIVACY and remember (when it comes to the other article you edited) that it's extra important to follow when it comes to minors. I see that you tried to bring this up on your own talk page and also with HickoryOughtShirt?4, but that's when the filter stopped you. The filter is marked private, so an explanation of why that happened will have to wait for someone with private filter access. In the meantime, if you have multiple reliable sources, you can try suggesting the change (and your sources) at Talk:Natalie Alyn Lind instead. So all that's cited so far is that she was born sometime between October 3 1999 and October 2 2000, hence the "1999/2000". We can't be any more specific without another source. On the wikipedia page for Fear The Walking Dead season 4 the name billing is incorrect because Lennie James receives the special "and" credit billing at the end. He's the last credited series regular of season 4 and Jenna Elfman is constantly being changed to the last credited person despite the fact that she is NOT credited last she is credited second to last, I'm not even sure the person who does the edits watches the show because other they'd be changing it. it goes in credit like this Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Maggie Grace, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Garret Dillahunt, Jenna Elfman and Lennie James. Look the edits I'm making aren't to vandalize, but the information is false she is not credited last. Just watch any episode in the first half of that season and you'll see.

The filter should have noticed that, and not issued the warning, and the fix I suggested to JzG (ping didn't go though the first time for some reason, so trying again) should prevent any more false positives of this type. Description: Quite by chance, I've discovered that including the link MOS:BOLDAVOID in an edit summary triggers an abuse filter. If links are removed from the bold face reiteration of the article title and the edit summary does not include the link, it's not flagged (eg [4]). If the edit has nothing to do with links in bold text, but the link is included in the summary, it is flagged (eg [5]). So the filter seems to be a search for that link in the edit summary and nothing more. If I see links in the bold face reiteration, I remove them, and I put a link to the relevant guideline into my edit summary. I think that this is exactly in accordance with all policies and guidelines on how articles should look, how to edit, and how to help others follow the guidelines. It seems bizarre and wrong that edit filters are being used to flag this as abuse, doesn't it?

Bored kids like to add "blah blah blah" and such to articles, so the filter thought that was vandalism. @MusikAnimal: Any ideas? I tried searching for insource:/ Blah[a-z]/ (naughty me) and got 1027 hits for Blaha, Blahnik, Blahyi, and many others. It seems lots of people have names starting with "Blah". If we changed filter 384 to match only \bblah\b, then "blahblahblah" etc., will get through. Maybe match \b(blah)+\b or \bblah(b|\b). Or, KISS, and go with \bblah\b anyway, and let RC patrollers deal with the "blahblah"s? If the regex is getting too complicated, we can remove the (?!\1) after ([asdfghjkl;]), which (at least in my local libpcre) tries to match the capture over at \bcock(s?|sucker)\b, so couldn't have been doing anything useful in the first place, unless I'm missing something. I don't think your attempt to ping Oshwah went through, so I'll ping him for you. In any case, that filter is log-only, so false positives are not really worth ~~reporting~~ worrying about, IMO. If the filter reliably identified bad-faith edits, it would have been set to actually do something by now.
