Wikipedia:Adminship isn't being the ruler of a medieval kingdom

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Congrats! Your request for adminship has been approved, and you are an admin now! Yay! But think about it. You may think you're the big cheese, but you aren't. You may be shocked, but no one owns Wikipedia. So... That felt upsetting to hear right? You thought you were top dog, but no one is top dog! Well, lemme tell you something. Adminship isn't being the ruler of a medieval kingdom.

He's the king of the country! (But Wikipedia doesn't have one)

Trust me, when you start realising it, no one is in charge. It's always best to help the community, rather than boss it around.

The King Mindset[edit]

When you become an admin, try to follow the Helper mindset, a mindset where you help people, not boss them around. The King Mindset is where you think everyone has to do what you say, and do stuff that doesn't achieve consensus, but you do anyway. It is always best help people not boss them around.

Don't do stuff that doesn't achieve consensus[edit]

When planning to create, for example, a new policy try to ask the community about it first. If they say no, don't do it. But you may not care and do it anyway. This actually hinders community progression and engagement so try not to do it.

Conclusion[edit]

Always be a fair administrator. Admins aren't in charge, their job is to help the community. Avoid the King Mindset. If you do so, the community will love you.
