Topics[edit]

OK, here are some ideas about articles we should concentrate on. I think we should make sure that at least 3-4 articles get to featured article status. Let's try to make a list here, and than include it on the project page:

  • Work on following articles:
    • Make sure that all political institutions and politicians of former Yugoslavia are covered. (list all possible topics)
      • Political institutions such as Savez komunista, etc.
      • Famous and infamous stuff like Goli otok, Informbiro, etc.
      • Events that lead to break up of Yugoslavia are easy to document using Google and stuff. Things like Milosevic's rally in Kosovo, Yoghurt Revolution in Novi Sad, March Demonstrations in Belgrade, should be outlined.
    • General literature
    • Architecture:
    • General arts:
      • People who are from ex-Yugoslavia probably have enormous knowledge about stuff like cartoon Baltazar, which has no chance of ever being written unless we put our heads together.
      • We already started working on shows such as Top Lista Nadrealista. Considering that many American or BBC based shows have extensive coverage, it should be easy and fun for all of us to make sure at least some of the more popular shows get extensive coverage (my tip: stay away from trivia and concentrate on facts... since many of those shows had significant political and cultural impact, we should try to dig out sources examining the influence and including it). Even think about shows such as Znanje imanje, etc. It's amazing that people like Branko Milicevic (Branko Kockica) are still not covered
    • Economy:

Ok, that's it from me now... Feel free to edit my post and add particular articles or topics you can think of (or anything else). --dcabrilo 06:30, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Music, music, music :-) Lots of important bands from ex-Yu don't have the article or the article is very bad.

And, my idea is that this wikiproject can be used as place for coordination of local (Bosnian, Croatian, Slovenian, Serbian...) tasks. There are no local notice boards for this comunities on Wikipedia, so this one could be used for coordination of tasks on articles about every of former republics. This doesn't have to be project strictly concerning only SFRY from 1945-1991. --Dijxtra 21:10, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Names[edit]

Sorry I didn't have time to do this yesterday... :-| Anyway, we have to decide names. Unfortunately, I lost the IRC log from yesterday (forgot that Miranda IM doesn't log IRC the way it logs ICQ), but I'll try to remember some. Feel free to add the names you think are OK:

  • WikiProject:SFRY
  • WikiProject:Former Yugoslavia
If we decide to make it a WikiProject, I think this one is the best... but I myself prefer noticeboard, not WikiProject
  • Serbo-Croatian-speaking Wikipedians' notice board
I understand this is a no-no :-)) --Dijxtra 10:24, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Vardar-Triglav notice board
This one sounds nice but a bit funny --Dijxtra 10:24, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • South-slavic notice board
Includes Bulgarians... :-\ --Dijxtra 10:24, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Western Balcans notice board
Excludes Slovenians and a better part of "partiotic" Croats... :-\ --Dijxtra 10:24, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Western South Slavic-speaking Wikipedians' notice board
Now, this one's interesting. Just realised that WSS languages are: Slovenian, Croatian, Bosnian, Serbian. Unfortuantely, Macedonian is East South Slavic, together with Bulgarian... And the name's funny and long... --Dijxtra 10:24, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • SFRY/J general notice board
I know we're going to cover the KOY/J too, so I added 'general'. - FrancisTyers 22:07, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, now, you add names I forgot.

BTW, how do you like this:

Flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina Flag of Croatia Flag of the Republic of Macedonia Flag of Serbia and Montenegro Flag of Slovenia

I'm lousy in choosing colours, so somebody else should do that :-) But, I'm good in programing, so I'll try to write a Python script which will randomise the flags, so we have different ordering every time the page is refreshed :-) Now they are just alfabetical. And, flag size should be uniform... Serbian and Montenegrin flags are bit different in shape than others.

BTW, a flag for Serbia, and a flag for Montenegro or a flag for S&M? --Dijxtra 10:32, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Go with Former Yugoslavia. This leaves room for Anglo-Saxon Australians with enough of a masochistic streak to dive into Eastern European political issues to participate. :) Ambi 10:37, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Former Yugoslavia - it's clear what's it about. Anyway, we will probably start by focusing on things strictly related to Yugoslavia (Kingdom to 1990s). For now, put only S&M flag (I mean, it's still some kind of a state:), so we don't have to worry about including Vojvodina's and Kosovo's flag as well :)--dcabrilo 21:04, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Looks much better now, with sun in the middle :-) --Dijxtra 21:15, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Keeping low profile[edit]

Ah, and an idea. If I got it correctly, the general concensus was to keep a low profile and invite only afirmative and non-nationalis-POV users to this brainstorming, right? Then using the email, not the user talk page, could be usefull ;-) Unfortunately, Duja does not have an email set, so I had to write conspirative messages on his talk page :-)) --Dijxtra 10:39, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. I hope my talk page wasn't watched by... erm... the enemy. (I've just visited the fine Alan Ford article because mention of Baltazar and this gathering associated me with TNT :-) ). Should we take conspirative names from there or from "Otpisani" ;-) ?
I'd go for the email list option. 'Tis really handy for things like this. Ambi 12:24, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Khm[edit]

Project a bit stalled, eh? :-) After the exams season is over (in few weeks) I'll engage myself here and design this page, so you can hit sticks and stones at me and (after the throwing is over) the make it official. ;-) In the mean time, feel free to check out the letter Đ situation here. This kind of thing is why I think we need this board. To inform people about stuff that happens. I look forward to you guys joining the discussion. --Dijxtra 21:50, 17 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah indeed, stalled :-{. Alas, I'll be absent until mid-May due to a business trip to U.S. and I doubt I'll be able to contribute anything substantial. Good for me btw. :-)
As a "collaboration project" I propose Riblja Čorba – there's zilch information on this band which was highly popular and good at a time, to become highly controversial due to Bora Đorđević's nationalistic stanza. Yet, they deserve a good article – just a thought.
Also, I think we could invite User:Zvonko to the project. (Gotta run, my wife is already grumbling :-D ) Duja 22:04, 22 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
