A new version of "Replace all" js script for OCR post elaboration[edit]

Dear Zolky, I'm an Italian wikisource user, I saw that your js scripts are used into it.wikisource. Unluckily, I can't write js, while I can write python scripts. One from my scripts is very useful as "post-OCR manipulation", t.i: it replaces lots of typical "scannos", with a series of string search-and-replace-all, always the same series. So, I imagine that it would great to have a button to launch the series from edit box.

What I'll need, is a js engine, called by a simple script containing the couples search-and-replace strings, so that it can be mounted into personal monobook and customized adding a sequence of strings to search and replace. Do you think it would be interesting? Possible?

Examples of typical mistakes to fix: 

" ,"  -> ", "
"1'"  -> "l'"
"ehe" -> "che"
"'"   -> "’"
"-\n" -> "" 
"'"   -> "’"

and many other, sometimes very general, sometimes specific for a specific OCR result for a whole book (t.i. hundred of pages, usually). This means that there's no need to have a box or an user interface: dealing with a book, an advanced user could edit and personalize directly, as needed, the list of strings to replace editing his own monobook.js, IMHO.

Moving versus deleting[edit]

I have a better idea......you look up vandalism. When you start removing sourced material without a vaild reason, that is vandalism. It could easily be moved to another section if you don't feel is belongs in the leade, but there is no reason to keep it out of the article. If you want the leade to be more neutral sounding, then you can move the quote. But the quote is from a reliable third party. It is neutral. You are confusing complimentary with POV. If a third party says something complimentary (or critical), that doesn't immediately exclude it from use. There is no requirement that every comment be neutral. The requirement is that their POV be neutral. A third party critic can say something nice (or critical) and it can be included. The only issue at that point it WP:UNDUE weight. Again, there is no reason to delete it. If you think it belongs in another section, and have a good rationale for that, then move it. But deleting it not appropriate. Second, just because something is from a reliable source doesn't mean that it should be in the article. If you trawl a reliable source long enough, especially if it's a newspaper, you can find a quote that says practically anything. This particular quote isn't even from a proper review of her album. Can I ask for help here?[edit]

For some reason, picture popups isn't working now. I did re-edit my monobook.js after the fail to try to fix it, but nope. I have reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled XP as part of a virus-removal, but I don't think that is relevant. ( Martin | talk • contribs 18:55, 5 March 2010 (UTC))[reply]
It's fixed now. I assume that it was fixed by the latest change I made: selecting monobook rather vector (which was somehow checked) as my preferences/appearance/skin option. ( Martin | talk • contribs 20:11, 6 March 2010 (UTC))[reply]

SearchBox and vector skin[edit]

Hello!

When we activate "Enable enhanced editing toolbar" from vector skin in the preferences, the User:Zocky/SearchBox.js doesn't insert the buttons for search, because the toolbar has different "id=toolbar"...

If you have the time, coul you try to adapt the code for better compatibility with vector?

It is available a "how to" about the enhanced toolbar at usability:Toolbar customization and usability:Toolbar customization/Library if you find it useful...

I'd like to second and encourage the Vector-version request: the regex search-and-replace has been a very valuable tool and is one of the biggest hindrances of the Vector skin for me. Hi!! Could you update the script as here? This makes it more compatible with the new enhanced toolbar (the only thing missing when using the new toolbar is the accesskey for the search button , but clicking in the buttons works as before). Helder (talk) 18:32, 14 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to interrupt. Popups doesn't seem to work for me (all of a sudden). 1.Of course, I am logged in. 2. Would a new browser version break it? 3. I am still listed as a user, and clicking on the xref to me goes to my page "User:MartinGugino/monobook.js" (??) Magically, its fixed. ( Martin | talk • contribs 05:42, 3 April 2011 (UTC)) The magic explained: when I click on the "boxes" in the lower right, I don't get the popup effect. When I click on the picture, I do. Who knew. Special Linking[edit]

Zocky, I'm trying to get a better handle on both images and tables. The table on the upper right of my user page has images with the link= parameter set for each of the images in the cells, but the page won't open with either a left click or a context menu click (the menu doesn't even come up).
