Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Hello, Zjacobsohn. This is entirely fair - I apologize for having inadvertently broken the guidelines.

I'll be completely honest and admit I do have an external connection (they are clients of mine).

Can you do me a massive favor? As you do not have a conflict of interest, could you please discard the changes I've made, but please do ensure that the correct information is populated onto the site?

It could be confusing for parents and students of the local borough if this information isn't updated.

My sincerest apologies for having broken the guidelines, but I do hope you'll ensure that the correct information is populated, while also discarding the changes I've made outside of regulations.

Hi, since the changes do not take effect until 1st September, the information on the article right now is still correct until then. It would help enormously if you could point out where the change of name is mentioned in an independent reliable source. Unfortunately the school websites aren't sufficient as they are not independent, so we'd need a news story covering the change - perhaps in the local press, on the local authority website or the Department of Education website. Currently all of those still state the school's name as Broomfield and there doesn't seem to be any public announcement regarding the change. The criteria for inclusion of information on Wikipedia is famously verifiability, not truth, so any means of verifying the name change would be helpful.

You might also want to read up on WP:COMMONNAME regarding the name of the article itself - it's likely to stay as "Broomfield School" until the new name becomes more widely used. Waggers TALK 12:24, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for this explanation, and once again I sincerely appreciate your assistance in helping me better understand the rules of Wikipedia.

That's fair if the changes can't take effect until the name of the school has actually changed. The Department for Education (DfE) website is scheduled to have the change take place on the 1st of September, so that will be an independent source:

The only issue is that it won't show you previous names of the school, so the only way you will be able to verify that they are the same school is by taking note of the DfE code (308/5401). Also, the link to the above website is present on the wiki page (the link on the page is called "Brookfield School" - obviously a typo), so hopefully you can use that to verify that these are the same schools also.

Can you please confirm if the above would be enough information required for you to make the change, when the change takes place?

If so, would I be able to submit the same changes I've made today, on the 1st of September, referencing the updated DfE website for verification, and the changes will go through?
