Zhatt, I saw your VFD here. What you want is do is post it at images for deletion. Just write it as duplicate or obsolete with the correctly spelled one. -- Ricky81682 (talk) June 29, 2005 06:48 (UTC)

Thanks, Ricky. I'm still learning how to get around this gigantic website. Zhatt 29 June 2005 06:56 (UTC)

Your signature[edit]

Howdy. I hope you don't mind, but I commented out your signature in this discussion. (I replaced the signature with a generic link to your user page and copied the timestamp over.) It was wreaking havoc on the VfD day page by changing font colors. You may want to take a closer look at your signature, as I don't believe you have enough </font> tags in it. Cheers, AиDя01DTALKEMAIL 17:30, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

Sorry about that and thanks for cleaning it up. I looked at prevoius versions of the page, but I couldn't see anything wrong, but I guess that's just the way my browser sees it. I've added a good old </font> to my signature, but if something like this happens again, I'm just going to go back to plain old Zhatt. Again, thanks and sorry. Zhatt 17:49, July 15, 2005 (UTC)
I have decided to simplify my signature anyways. The last one was a bit harsh. &#0149;Zhatt&#0149; 18:27, July 15, 2005 (UTC)

In recognition[edit]

For your hard work on making the Canadian discussion page more useful and effective, I award you a Working Man's Barnstar. Keep up the great work. Ground Zero 20:28, 19 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Department of Fisheries and Oceans[edit]

(My comments copied over from User_talk:SimonP)

I was wondering why you moved Department of Fisheries and Oceans (Canada) to Department of Fisheries and Oceans as most of the other departments in Canada have "(Canada)" on the end. A while ago the governemnt stoped revering to departments as "Department of TOPIC", but as "TOPIC of Candada". In the government, DFO is now known better as Fisheries and Oceans Canada. Oddly enough they still use the acronym DFO, but I'm guessing thats because they dont want to call themsleves "FOC". &#0149;Zhatt&#0149; 16:09, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

The reason most federal departments have (Canada) after them s because their name is ambiguous. There are quite a few Departments of Health, Finance, and of Foreign Affairs in the world. Wikipedia policy is only to disambig when necessary. As to DFO vs. FOA their website seems to use FOA so maybe it should be moved to that title. - SimonP 16:27, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

Ok. I can see where you are comming from with the disambiguation, but you're right that the page needs to be moved. I'm not sure what you mean by DOA. I believe the page should be moved simply to Fisheries and Oceans Canada as, like you mentioned, that's what they call themselves on the webpage. Useing the same logic, some other departments should be renamed such as INAC, DOJC and a few others. &#0149;Zhatt&#0149; 16:38, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

I actually now remember that this issue was discussed several montsh ago at [1]. While the "Fisheries and Oceans Canada" format is the one they use on their website, and according to Google the most common name, the official title remains "Department of Fisheries and Oceans." Personally I feel that common rather than official names should be used, and that we should thus move the pages. It might be a good idea to get some other opinions by again bringing this up at the Canadian wikipedians' notice board or at Requested moves. - SimonP 16:48, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

I'll bring it up on the Canadian discussion board. &#0149;Zhatt&#0149; 17:06, July 22, 2005 (UTC)

Pano[edit]

Supposedly one should not mix text with a picture over 300 pix wide, as this is incompatible with narrow screens (800 wide) which is the WP target minimum (or so I have been told - it has something to do with Africa). The clear command keeps the text from being written in the narrow remnant, and when I prevent text flow I generally center the image - it would look strange pushed to one side with only blank space. To see how it looks, skinny your window to about 790 pix Leonard G. 01:11, 6 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it looks that odd with white-space on the side, but it does look odd when "Vancouver" is on one line, "is" is on the next and then the paragraph starts at "internationally" below the picture. The problem is the "center" tag is creating problems on my end. It moves the little "enlarge" icon to the center and pushes the caption down. So I didn't center it, but I put the clear=all back and moved the image to the bottom of the section where the white-space on the sides doesn't look so odd. Thanks. Zhatt 02:36, August 6, 2005 (UTC)

Port Mann Bridge[edit]

Thanks for the help in cleaning up the Port Mann Bridge article. I snapped a quick photo when I drove over it this weekend. Very nice bridge. My favorite Portland bridge looks very similar: Fremont Bridge (Portland, Oregon). Feel free to get a better photo. I wish that I would have had more time to get a better perspective, but that was the best I could do while riding in a car. Cacophony 21:43, August 8, 2005 (UTC)

No problem. It was on my list of things to do anyways. It's part of my Bridges of Greater Vancouver project. You got a decent photo. Sure it's not the best angle, but there's good lighting and you get the idea of what the bridge looks like.

Articles to improve[edit]

At 'Articles to improve' I moved Britannia Beach, British Columbia from 'Articles to expand' to 'Articles to clean up' to remove duplication. I did this earlier and I see you put it back. Since the article has a "Clean-up" tag it I believe the latter section is more appropriate....actually, I was never really sure what the point to the 'Articles to expand' section was or how it is maintained. All articles in the 'Articles to clean up' have a 'clean-up' tag in them. -maclean25 01:42, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for fixing that. I noticed what I did shortly after posting it, but didn't get around to fixing it.

Adminship[edit]

Zhatt: Thank you for supporting my nomination for adminship. I am honoured that you and others think highly enough of my contributions here to support the nomination. The admin powers will enable me to patrol for vandals more effectively, amongst other things. I promise to use my new powers for good, and not to inflict the retribution on my enemies that they so richly deserve, as tempting as that may be. ;-) Thanks again, Kevin. Wikimania 2006[edit]

In the course of informal discussions at Wikimania in Frankfurt the possibility of having Wikimania 2006 in Vancouver was raised. What makes Canada desirable for such a meeting is the capacity to draw delegates from the United States. For many overseas delegates, however, U.S. visa requirements make that country less attractive. All else being equal, Europeans see Vancouver as a more interesting Canadian city to visit than Toronto, the only other Canadian city to receive significant consideration.

Preliminary bids from various cities need to be made by Sept. 30, 2005. A short list will be drawn from those bids. Is there enough interest and energy to put together such a conference in Vancouver for August 2006? The people in Frankfurt put on a tremendous gathering, with a core organizational group of about a dozen people. Some 400 people attended from 52 different countries.

I expect that a North American Wikimania could be a little smaller, but we would still need a suitable facility. It would be good to know that such a facility is available for a conference; the type of youth hostel facility that was used in Frankfurt does not exist in North America. What would be the cost of hosting such a conference at UBC?

I'm looking for interest and commitment. To that end I am proposing a Vancouver meetup for Saturday, Sept. 24. If someone has a reasonably accesible place for such a meeting please let me know. (I live in Richmond, but something in the city of Vancouver would be more appropriate.)

I am spammiong this to all Vancouver area Wikipedians that I can find. Please reply to my talk page. Eclecticology 21:50:16, 2005-09-03 (UTC)

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for cleaning up Talk:Canada. I was feeling bad about contributing to a debate that made that page useless for any other discussion, but was too involved to be able to do anything about it. As it is, AVD is accusing me of proposing the transfer to another page in order to further my own alleged republican agenda. Ah well. I am hoping to spend a lot less time on that tiresome debate. No problem. I was getting in the habit of archiving some pages regularly and that one really needed it. I only archived about half of the DoC talk, it was Homey who moved the rest of the discussion onto the page. Zhatt 16:57, September 9, 2005 (UTC)

Can you test this?[edit]

Hi. Since you were one of two people who seems to have had any interest in re-working the Canadian projects, could you do a quick test to see if it works as you'd expect? It shouldn't take more than a minute or two. I don't want to implement a system that nobody has tested, because I have no way of gauging if its easy to use - I find it easy, but then, I designed it! Just visit my test page. I've made the same request of Maclean25. Thanks... Mindmatrix 20:08, 11 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for testing; I was wondering, did you replace the tildes in the template? maclean25 reported a problem with the fourth tilde (in the support votes section) not being interpreted, and I see you had a similar issue with the iota page. I haven't had problems with it, so I was rather curious about this. I've also changed the template and main page after considering your suggestions. Mindmatrix 21:09, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe I touched the tildes at all and I'm quite sure I didn't add anouther one. It's unusual that extra one seems to appear out of nowhere. Thanks for adding my suggested changes. Zhatt 22:43, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

After another inspection, I've found the problem - it's because you have a custom signature; this gets parsed before anything else, so the three tildes are replaced, and then the fourth one is tacked on. Of course, by then it's too late. I thought I was being so clever with my template...sigh. I'll redo the part about identifying the nominator. Mindmatrix 02:38, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for participating in the WikiProject on Electoral districts in Canada. As you know there will be an election soon. So this may be the best time for the Canadian Wikipedia community to band together and write these articles on current federal electoral districts. It is just a place to start from, where we can discuss and experiment. Please review it, comment but keep an open mind, and help form a concensus. --maclean25 01:05, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Golden_Ears_Bridge_rendering.JPG. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. A tag has been placed on Image:Vancouver Woodward's 2005.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Vancouver Woodward's 2005.jpg|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. ViperSnake151 20:40, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Centeredpix.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. AfD nomination of HMCS Discovery[edit]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is HMCS Discovery. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/HMCS Discovery. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:12, 17 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi,

I've just recently gotten into Diplomacy and happened upon your map on the Commons. I'm interested in adapting and printing it for my personal use. Would you be willing to share the source file (.svg, .ai, or similar)? Clarkefreak 18:31, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada[edit]

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Cheers. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:55, 22 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
