Speedy deletion nomination of HyperRogue[edit]

Hello Zenorogue,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged HyperRogue for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Zenorogue. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. JTP (talkcontribs) 14:34, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Thank you. -- Ed (Edgar181) 16:14, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I believe this username does not violate the username policy, because it already represents me as an individual. This is my personal nickname that I have been using before I have started writing games. I am definitely not a group nor an organization and I write my games on my own (with some help from other people but still). Forcing me to use a different name would just obscure the COIs. Zenorogue (talk) 10:18, 30 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Unfortunately, Zenorogue is the name of a company - and per our username policy is not permitted, as it is a promotional username. SQLQuery me! 03:16, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Requested username:

Request reason:

Could you explain why do you claim this is the name of a company (it is not), and why is SQL allowed even though it is a name of a product? I understand the purpose of the policy is to not allow accounts which do not correspond to individuals, and my username is fine according to this interpretation. The policy page claims that a name "Mark at WidgetsUSA" is acceptable, so the purpose seems not to forbid being associated with the given person's other accomplishments. Or should I simply change my user name to e.g. JustZeno so that it does not even appear to be a name of a company?

Accept reason:

SQL is a generic language, not a product. Informix, SQLite, Sybase, Oracle, PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server are products / companies. I couldn't use MySQL as a username for instance. SQLQuery me! 05:28, 3 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My changes to the HyperRogue article[edit]

I'm the same hotdogPi as in the Steam forums. I added information to the HyperRogue article, and since you created the game and seem to have written most of the article content, I want to know if you could possibly reword or expand what I added (or possibly revert, if you don't like what I added).
