My RfA

Thank you for participating in my RfA. It was successful, and I am now, may God have mercy on us all, an administrator. Look at all the new buttons! I had heard about 'protect,' 'block user,' and 'delete,' but no one told me about 'kill,' 'eject,' and 'purée.' I appreciate the trust the community has in me, and I'll try hard not to delete the main page or block Jimbo. -FisherQueen (Talk) 18:16, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Assistance

Hi, I was given your name by User:Ksy92003 and they said you might be able to help me. I wanted to talk to you about this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/71.10.169.33

Look at these contributions from this IP address. You'll also see on his talk page that he has a name, BKaldenberg, though he's rarely used it. Both have been blocked for 3RR and violating WP:EL in the past. Here's the deal:

His name is Brian Kaldenberg, and as you can see from those contributions his sole purpose on Wikipedia (outside of a single Virginia Tech Massacre vandalizing) is to add the link www.gamerosters.com to the pages NCAA Football Series and NCAA Football 08. As you can see going to that link, Brian Kaldenberg is the owner of that website.

This is clearly in violation of WP:EL, it definitely constitutes as spam and as a conflict of interest given he's the site's owner. I also know he is the site's owner, not just from the Wikipedia user name, but from series of emails I've had with him. He is fully aware of the policy and just chooses to disregard it. As he claimed today in one email, he makes $20-40 a day per day from that link (although I doubt it) and simply doesn't care about the policy.

I'm writing you because this 3RR crap isn't enough. A permanent solution needs to be found. He's knowingly violated policy dozens and dozens of times as you can see, with no end in site. He clearly has no other reason for his presence at Wikipedia other than to spam these two articles. Day-to-day block are not enough, he simply needs to be banned. It bothers me that a person would behave like this, and I don't want him to "win" as a matter of principle.

So I'm asking you, what can be done?►Chris Nelson 21:25, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

It's okay, thanks for the advice.►Chris Nelson 17:20, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I understand the anonymous IP makes things complicated. He's definitely been using it for months though as you can see. I just really hope there is a way to permanently block him. He serves no purpose here other than to knowingly violate policy for person gain.►Chris Nelson 17:23, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi and thanks for rating the Jason Michaels article. I put a good deal of work into it recently and am curious as to what you think it needs to get to GA status? --Sanfranman59 17:23, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Admin Offer

Thank you very much for the offer to nominate me for adminship. I would like to give it a shot at this time. You might want to bring W.marsh into the process as he had previously offered to make the nom, but I felt I wasn't ready yet. Thanks again! -- But|seriously|folks  18:34, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

I was just going to let you know I got your nom message and transcluded my RfA, but I see you've already supported it. I guess Nobody beats the Wiz! -- But|seriously|folks  23:33, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

WP:RFA/ACL 2

Thanks for your support. I also wish to congratulate you on your consistency: on my first RfA, you were the last person to give their opinion, and on this one, you did it again! :) Again, thanks for the support, and your consistency. :) Acalamari 23:08, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

admin

Hey. As you are aware, Wikipedia is someone short on image patrollers, especially when it comes to image admins. Seeing your edits, I think you were be a great candidate for adminship over at WP:RFA. I'd gladly nom you if you wanted to take the plunge, let me know of your decision. Wizardman 16:36, 4 July 2007 (UTC)

Wow, thanks! I would love to be an admin, but considering my views on non-free content, I'm not sure I would gain enough votes. Specifically, I've been trying for months to relax the ban on our use of the International Symbol of Access outside the confines of fair use, and upset some of editors in the process. A few editors screamed that this was in violation of Foundation:Resolution:Licensing policy, even though that document isn't very clear on the issue. So, I'd probably rather wait until the Wikimedia Board elections are over. With luck, a favorable candidate (Michael Snow, DragonFire1024, Kingboyk) will be elected who will clarify for us that the decision is up to us, rather than another candidate who endorses the Wikimedia Foundation's current position that copyright is a form of government suppression. So, a favorable clarification would help make my adminship more likely.
So, to summarize all that: I'd rather wait and see if the Board elections help prevent people from voting against me, saying that I'm against the Foundation. I really do appreciate the offer, and hope that you will keep it open to me. —Remember the dot (talk) 18:36, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Very well then. I got another nom I'm putting up today or tomorrow, so I'll wait until after the elections pass. Just let me know when/if you're ready. Wizardman 23:10, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
OK, thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 00:25, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Radiant! just rolled right over consensus on Edward P. Felt. His stated reason was “per precedent”, but we see that on the AfDs for the other Flight 93 victims, that precedent was largely established by closers ignoring consensus or lack-of-consensus. —the Ghost of Adrian Mineha! hold seance at 21:54, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Your request! :)

Count on it, dear Wizardman! :) Your request will be the last one I take until I finish with the current ones, but considering how little content you have there , it shouldn't take long ;) Seriously, this is the best oportunity to add something more, if you wish - with so little material, it's difficult to make a truly good looking userpage (but hey, it's just my advice - there's more than enough for me to work on as it stands! ;) Any colors you like? Love, Phaedriel - 22:26, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Wait, wait - there no need that you add more stuff, it was just an advice! :) Relax, sweetie - I'll make something with your current contents, leave it all to me :) Just give me a few hours, k? Love, Phaedriel - 22:34, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

thank you for supporting my RfA

I dont know wat the hell is going on now. I didnt vandalise so stop accusing me of doing so and say sorry. --Jaasmeimer Zoosteraatz 16:27, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Nope that was not me I didnt vandalise that page. And no, I will not make another edit because I deserve an apology NOW. It is eithr you are playing a sick twisted joke on me or it is a technical error. Choose one, which one is it? Eh? Eh? --Jaasmeimer Zoosteraatz 16:31, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

It's sad how YOU refuse to own up too playing a trick on me by accusing me of vandalising when I did not . The reason I cant prove it was me is because you are obviously behind this. This is pathetic of you editors to play childish tricks on newcomers such as myself. Utter disgrace. --Jaasmeimer Zoosteraatz 16:37, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

Rationale

Book cover image is explained in the licensing, what further rational do u require ? PianoKeys 02:04, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Read the licensing, it is in it. I have added additional rationale anyway. PianoKeys 02:09, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
the rationale it is a book cover being used in an article about the book. That is all that is required. Please show me the wiki policy and procedures that say that is not correct. Again, read the licensing or why don't you write the rationale the way you think it should be written to be allowed at wikipedia instead of sticking +tags on images. PianoKeys 02:25, 8 July 2007 (UTC)
If it is trying to help, I don't mind, if it is an attempt to delete a valid image or article, I object. PianoKeys 02:34, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Dimebag image

You deleted my image, and I am the author of it. I chose the licensing that anyone can use it, and I used it for here. So I did not read what you told me to read. So and again, I'll upload it, if I get to it. Not now, because I just don't have time. --Willy, your mate 06:08, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

July 2007 GAC backlog elimination drive

A new elimination drive of the backlog at Wikipedia:Good article candidates will take place from the month of July through August 12, 2007. There are currently about 130 articles that need to be reviewed right now. If you are interested in helping with the drive, then please visit Wikipedia:Good article candidates backlog elimination drive and record the articles that you have reviewed. Awards will be given based on the number of reviews completed. Since the potential amount of reviewers may significantly increase, please make sure to add :{{GAReview}} underneath the article you are reviewing to ensure that only one person is reviewing each article. Additionally, the GA criteria may have been modified since your last review, so look over the criteria again to help you to determine if a candidate is GA-worthy. If you have any questions about this drive or the review process, leave a message on the drive's talk page. Please help to eradicate the backlog to cut down on the waiting time for articles to be reviewed.

You have received this message either due to your membership with WikiProject: Good Articles and/or your inclusion on the Wikipedia:Good article candidates/List of reviewers. --Nehrams2020 23:47, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the email you sent. Even if I was to return, I would decline your adminship offer. Been there, done that. I thought I would be fine going throught the process - I surprised myself at how upset and stressed I got at the critisism - not a heathly thing. The mass image tagging blitzes were basically a response to my failed review -- a kind of "I'll show you". Thanks for the kind words none the less. --User:Gay Cdn (talk) (Contr) 21:21, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Lucy Pinder Photo

Yeah its no problem. I really have nothing against nudity when it is relevant, but as the picture was a pro photoshoot (more then likely copyrighted), added by an anonymous user (i believe), and a picture of lucy with clothes on should be farely easy to obtain, I thought that it would be best to delete it. And yeah it probably will help with cleaning up. Thanks for the concern.

Second opinion?

Wizardman, thank you again for your help with the Francesca Gagnon article. I am setting out toward trying to get the Cirque du Soleil article moving in the direction of FA status. I have already read it a few dozen times and think I know how it needs to be formatted and what changes need to be made to it. However, If you get some time could you take a look at it and give me advice?

My position right now is that I'm removing the entire Overview section and either putting the parts I can source into the history that I am currently writing in my sandbox, or putting it into the introductory paragraph. I also plan to remove the "in popular culture" section which I have endless, undying contempt for...but I will relent and let it go if someone wants it back badly enough to resort to an edit war for it. Third, I am scouring the internet looking for free-use images to add to the article. Thoughts?

No hurry on this, I will be locked inside my sandbox staring at a white screen if you need me. Trusilver 20:24, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

Image:Oscar2.jpg

per WP:DELETE, i am requesting and undelete for image:oscar2.jpg. although the image was properly speedy'd after being orphaned from its accompanying article, it should not have been removed at all, as it's replacement is 'hardly' a faithful representation of the genuine article. --emerson7 | Talk 06:50, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

there was nothing wrong with the rationale to begin with....it was deleted because it was orphaned.--emerson7 | Talk 16:03, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
yes, per my original request, the 'replacement' is 'not' valid. --emerson7 | Talk 16:08, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
fair enough...cheers! --emerson7 | Talk 16:12, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Sure, I'll have a go at a basic lead. By the way, you may want to add your name to the list of particpants at WP:COUNTYLISTS. Tompw (talk) (review) 20:02, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Could you try merging in the content from my article, List of Ohio counties by area, and making that into a redirect? Thanks! Nyttend 23:16, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Thanks again. I only created that list less than a month ago, so it's not a big surprise that it's not well known. Nyttend 23:23, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Just a note: be careful with the NACo website, since it's not always in harmony with other sources. For example, it says that Logan County was formed in 1817, even though http://www.odod.state.oh.us/research/FILES/S0/Logan.pdf, a State of Ohio document, announces that Logan County was established in 1818. Nyttend 15:32, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

I have a question about the etymology thing: what do you plan to do for disputed names, such as Ashtabula County? Instead of explaining the etymology, I think it would work better simply to give the option(s), such as by saying "Ethan Allen or John Allen" for Allen County. What do you think of this? Nyttend 12:23, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Re: tagging my tip wage credit article

Thanks for looking in on my article and removing the "underconstruction" template.  For the past two months I've been actively working to breath life back into the moribund Tok Pisin (neo-Melanesian lingua franca) Wikipedia and Wiktionary.  Although I'd been working to rebuild the two Wikis for several months (putting in six to twelve hours a day in the effort) I was only recently granted temporary sysop/administrator permission (for 90 days) so I could do the work necessary to rebuild the two Wikis.  (Just for background, tok pisin is extensively used by more than a million people living and working in the island nation of Papua New Guinea and its included islands, and is also used extensively in the other island nations in Melanesia.  It's chief use is as a means of intercommunication between tribal peoples who have their own tribal and regional languages, over 700 different tribal languages in PNG alone).  The TPI Wikipedia is different from the standard Wikipedias in that tok pisin is based on English (85% English cognate words spoken and written phonetically), and the national language of PNG and the surrounding island nations is English.  This means, among other things, that the TPI Wikipedia has to be bilingual and needs back to back English-Tok Pisin-English articles.  In its bilinguality, it isn't feasible to use the interlanguage links because they only return related articles on the same topic, not word-for-word translations. So, a good deal of my time is spent in contacting potential users, editors, translators and other resources to help get the two Wikis on their feet again, and to do so in good standing.

The TPI Wiktionary is also different for other Wiktionaries in that it has to be a multilingual dictionary with the definition pages having (as much as possible) translations of dictionary entries in several of the most common regional island languages (e.g., Bislama and Hiri Motu).

Going to the EN Wikipedia and WikiMedia to read/learn how to perform the different sysop/administrator functions is time consuming but necessary, as is the rest of the work to reconstruct the two Wikis (e.g., editing Categories defined using Korean characters by the originator of the Wikis four years ago, articles given their own individual category instead of creating parent/child categorty groupings, templates created without documenting them, deleting recurring spam and vandalism and blocking their users, and so forth).

I feel a great deal of pressure to get my tip wage credit article and its sub article completed, and to get back on track to make the practice and its effects known to the general public.  But at the same time I feel a stronger pressure to get what I consider to be an still another extremely worthwhile project — the two Wikis — back up and running.  There are many expatriate workers of non-government organizations (like Caritas, for example) that are providing education and health care assistance to the rural peoples of Melanesian (over five million by last count).  These workers are primarily from developed countries, and I believe that the two Wikis (especially the dictionary) will be great helps to those workers in understanding and communicating with their Melanesian clients.

I re-tagged my article, with an explanation for the delay.  If in so doing I've not done the right thing, I hope you'll bear with me for a while longer, and/or give me some advice on what I should best be doing with my tip wage credit article.  For example, I had originally written the article on my Talk page; should I now move the article back to a subpage there, complegte it, and then have it moved to the Main namespace?

As a final note, I have to say that being a temp sysop/administrator has taken me pretty deep into the innards of WikiMedia, which is a good thing, since I have a background and professional work experience in software development and web programming, and can understand most, but not all, of where all the bits and pieces of "behind the scenes" Wiki software and processes fit in. Thanks, and best regards. K. Kellogg-Smith 03:15, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
