  • Please do not use the wikipedia email system to spam editors, such as myself (and presumably many others) about a website you are promoting. SFC9394 (talk) 18:29, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spam email[edit]

I object to the email you sent me. It sounds like an email being sent to large numbers of users to promote a website. I don't want to receive emails like that. I consider them an inappropriate use of Wikipedia's email system. --Coppertwig (talk) 14:27, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

inappropriate username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please note that WP's policy on usernames expressly forbids the use of any username that promotes an organization. Please review this policy, and kindly select a new name. Instructions for doing so can be found at the same link. Thanks. Ronnotel (talk) 03:15, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Account blocked[edit]

I've blocked this account and disabled the account's email ability for a couple of reasons. Under the username policy, we don't allow promotional usernames and this includes a username that's the same as a website you are trying to promote. Secondly, it isn't appropriate for you to be using Wikipedia resources (project pages, email feature) to spam editors. If you would like to contribute here, you are most welcome to create another username. However, Wikipedia shouldn't be seen as a venue for promoting any website. Thanks, Sarah 03:28, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for all the fuzz that this created. We were indeed not aware of the username policy. As for "spamming" Wikipedia email accounts: we sent out selected emails to users of Wikipedia who have contributed to articles on gender equality. This was only meant as an informative measure, and in fact some of the people we contacted were quite eager to learn more about the Wikigender project. In no way did we try to abuse the Wikipedia system; in fact, we - as the creator of our own little wiki - are still in the learning process of how a wiki should be managed and naturally follow the example of Wikipedia. Summing up: we do not object that the username "wikigender" be deleted; however, we would prefer that it's existence be entirely wiped out. As it stands, a Google search for "wikigender" brings up this User Talk plus the blocked User page, which does not shed the best light on our Wikigender initiative. Thank you for your understanding.
