Notability of musical artists[edit]

I'd say it was stretching it a little to claim 'releasing' two songs a week on Youtube over a two month span was an assertion of notability. Catfish Jim and the soapdish (talk) 10:04, 2 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You have a point; but perhaps the author did not mention that the two releases per week were on YouTube... And the claim was not just a claim of releasing two songs per week, but that the same placed him as "one of the most consistent artist in the city". Irrespective of that, I'm on your side with respect to understanding the page does not belong to Wikipedia, unless the author proves notability. I have noticed almost all other some other administrators and bureaucrats following a similar pattern of closing only those AfDs that are listed on this log page. For example, Cirt closed this and this today, even though the technical equivalent of 7 full days x 24 hours had not yet expired. Re Easy[edit]

I'm discussing with ArbCom about me getting resyropped, but with heavy restrictions. I can't handle RFA, that's my weak spot, look at my prior history with them. There was a personal attack in there that really hit my nerve, if I can't get the tools back from ArbCom then I don't know what to do. I bought so many book sources to work on articles but I just don't want to go though RFA ever again. Thanks Secret account 18:37, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, good to hear from you. Look, RfA should not be considered a trial-by-fire and adminship should never be the objective of your being on Wikipedia. You have to enjoy the experience of editing on Wikipedia rather than having a focus of regaining adminship and then getting demotivated by RfA voting. The perspective is that RfA is a great place to get an idea of what other editors perceive of your contributions - and not of your character. None of the editors who opposed were blind to your contributions; almost everybody spoke in appreciation. And if I may comment, if editors like Fetchcomms, Soap have to vote for you, you have an incredible backing on this project. Finally, my advice would be to not pursue the adminship bit right now. Believe me, you have the background and the commitment to get adminship back in a few months. Right now, try and enjoy each day on Wikipedia:):) It surely is a great place to be and to interact with editors who respect you a considerable lot. And get back to doing much of what you were doing earlier - building articles. Wifione ....... Leave a message 18:48, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Thanks[edit]

Hey thanks for the response the reliable source was my brother he was tell me what to write so it will be accurate and correct. Hopefully we can get this done in the correct manner. Thanks. Marissa Dure —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marsbar523 (talkcontribs) 23:33, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • There you go :) Do kindly read one of the helpful notes we have on how to identify reliable sources for articles that are on Wikipedia. Surprisingly, information given by brothers doesn't quite figure on that list :) I guess one of the reasons why we should never believe our brothers :):) Jokes apart, the fact is that if you wish any article to be there on Wikipedia, it has to qualify on our notability guidelines, in other words, the minimum criteria to be met for a topic to be worth an article on Wikipedia. Do read these notability guidelines well (just click on the links I'm providing within the statements). Finally, this'll be a good time for you and your brother to read information on what Wikipedia is not. This'll help you reduce the possibility of your future articles getting deleted. Again, apologies for having deleted your article. Feel free to take my help any time in the future for anything to do with Wikipedia. Best regards. Wifione ....... Reformat of your message on another's talk page[edit]

Hi Wifione, I'm hoping that you wont mind if I "reformat" your message on Bad edits r dumb's talk page. I'd just like to give the message it's own section header so your generous offer doesnt get lost. If you've got no problems with that, I'll gladly break it out into a new section entitled "Offer to train you on Help Desk" Best, Robert ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 20:27, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Gerard Dure[edit]

Gerard Dure is my brother he's the one I'm doing the article about so he would be the reliable source since the article is about him. Hope this clears things up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marsbar523 (talkcontribs) 23:26, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Hi Marsbar23, until Wifione gets a chance to respond, you may wish to read up on reliable sources so you fully understand what Wifione is trying to explain to you. Knowledge of secondary sources is a specific part you should familiarize yourself with (which your brother, sadly does not qualify as). Hope this helps get you started. Best, Robert ROBERTMFROMLI TALK/CNTRB 23:43, 23 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Marsbar, it does clear things up (as it did the last time too). You simply cannot create articles based on what your brother says. Do kindly read our notability guidelines first. It's the primary step to understand how to ensure your articles don't get deleted. Once you've read it, write back for clarifications. Cheers. Wifione ....... Leave a message 14:36, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Also, as I believe you wish to write about your own brother, do kindly read our conflict of interest guidelines, which recommends very strongly that you should not create or edit articles where you may have a conflict of interest. I repeat, why don't you provide me reliable sources that can allow me to ascertain whether your brother, a celebrity hair stylist apparently, can have an article on Wikipedia or not.... Take care and cheers. Wifione ....... Leave a message 14:42, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re:adminship[edit]

Hi - yeah I'd love to help out as an admin, but I was inactive for many months and I've been back for only 1.5 months. My commitment to WP is rock-solid, but I think I'll need to put in a little more time to build the evidence. Thank you for thinking of me :) Shiva (Visnu) 00:53, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. I do believe though that you don't need to slog it out too long. You seem to be a good prospect, on the face of it. Wifione ....... Leave a message 14:34, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Karl Ley[edit]

Karl Ley I have removed the speedy delete/prod tags as I have worked the article a bit and included sutiable evidence of notability, hope that helps ==Deprodding of Karl Ley== I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}} tag from Karl Ley, which you proposed for deletion. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still think this article should be deleted, please do not add {{proposed deletion}} back to the page. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! Sinbadslimpig (talk) 18:14, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Timneu, don't get too irritated by my removing the CSD tag. Actually you tagged an individual on A7 when the article clearly mentioned the individual was a George Medal recipient. That's a claim of notability. It's grossly incorrect to put an A7 then; and I have to say that I myself have in my pre-admin days undertaken such mistakes of tagging individuals on A7 when the claim of notability was there. Still, don't worry. Open up a deletion discussion. That might help. I've left a copy of this message on your talk page. Take care and write back for any assistance you might require in the future. Wifione ....... Leave a message 18:56, 24 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

      • Thank you for your comments/additions re Karl Ley and the speedy deleting crusader, I guess he is just a little keen and not very good at taking feedback Sinbadslimpig (talk) 08:20, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think he's all right. I wouldn't call him a crusader or anything like that. It'll sound negative. We're all volunteers out here and he's like other volunteer patrollers who take out time from their normal daily life to contribute for the betterment of Wikipedia. Differences of opinion will obviously be there. But what is important is to understand consensus and go by it. He's gone completely as per process; though applied it wrongly. It would feel bad if an administrator (like me) takes out a mistakenly placed speedy deletion tag. Yes, he could use better words; but that's a story for another day. By the way, there's a deletion discussion already in progress on the article; and as much as I can presume, it's going towards a speedy keep. So if you need any help, do write back. Thanks and cheers. Wifione ....... Leave a message 13:13, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My deleted Entry for Sosspippen[edit]

This is not a hoax. My daughter invented this word and I have not seen it anywhere else in the world. Why did you delete the from Wikipedia. She is only 10 years old now and very sad the word she invented has been deleted as a hoax. thank you[edit]

I agree with your decisions and I am very sorry for not reviewing the usage guidelines more carefully. My intentions were to contribute in an un-assuming and respectful fashon. As a new user I became overwhelmed and got a little carried away. Some of the links I created should have been more carefully considered and I realise that the name "InismX" is confusing and inapropriate. I did not intend to promote or represent groups, nor indorse a website or person, so I will change my name and make the general policy of neutrality my first concern with any work that I submit. Thank you for quickly bringing the policies to my attention. Sincerely, Jeremy

WP:FUCK[edit]

I think an important discussion is finally taking place there. I'd hate for some admin (or more likely, a non-admin closer) to truncate that discussion by closing because you withdrew your MfD nom. Can you please reinstate it so that we can finish discussing? There may be a compromise in the works. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 04:52, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry; with the number of comments coming in, I don't think any admin would wish to close this discussion early. But the consensus seems to be heading one way only, and that is to keep the essay. I, perhaps unfortunately, come from a background where the usage of the word 'fuck' is considered quite uncivil, in whichever context it is used. For example, it would be an impossible event for me to use the above WP:FUCK essay with, say, Mr. Wales. And if I can't use it with him, I wouldn't use it with any other Wikipedia editor. That said, if the community wishes this essay to stay, it stays :) But not in my space :) Thanks Noraft for the note. And by the way, good work on the GOCE. Wifione ....... Username[edit]

G'day Wifione, you left a message on my alternate account, AusTerrapinBotEdits, regarding the suitability of the username. Whilst I hadn't paid close attention to WP:USERNAME, I have been trying to establish what permissions I actually do need to get for the account. AWB is not supposed to be used with a high edit-rate frequency on ordinary accounts and that a separate account needs to be set up for this so that edits can be filtered out from recent changes when desired. When I looked up bot account approval processes, the information was geared to automated bots, not editors operating semi-automated bots. So far I have not been able to find any information on where I can get approval for this, if indeed there is a formal process to go through. The username for the alternate account was established to make it clear that it was my alternate account and that it was for editing with bots such as AWB. I thought that '...BotEdits' was sufficient to distinguish it from being a pure bot account. Any advice that will assist would be appreciated. Cheers, AusTerrapin (talk) 19:19, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AusTerrapin. Your bot-named account will be blocked soon (unless you are going to run an approved-bot yourself). I should advise you to set up a new account after reading our username policy so that it doesn't contravene any of our policies. Do ensure that you provide a clear connection between the two accounts to be retained (as information perhaps on the user page of both accounts), something that you correctly did with the bot named account too. Your AWB request should be approved pretty soon post-that once you re-apply with the new name. Feel free to contact me for any clarification. Sincerely. Wifione ....... Leave a message 19:47, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That didn't really answer my question directly, however I take it that you don't consider the distinction to be sufficient and that you don't believe that it is appropriate to include bot in the title for semi-automated editing accounts. On this basis, my intent is to go through the rename process (as opposed to establishing a new account). Any objections to using 'AusTerrapinSemiAutomatedEdits'? I am still after any info on who I might need to notify about frequent editing with AWB and, potentially, other tools - if you are unsure, is there someone you can point me in the direction of? Please note that I won't be editing with the account until it is endorsed. Cheers, AusTerrapin (talk) 19:55, 27 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have no issues with your suggested name above (AusTerrapinSemiAutomatedEdits). Others might have. You could use AusTerrapinAWBedits, if that sounds better to you. But it's your personal choice surely. You could also consider naming your account with a bot name in case you are going to use AWB to make many edits per minute. But you will have to go to Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval and request approval before coming to AWB. In fact, my suggestion is, apply for permission there for your currently blocked bot username. Once permission is given, any administrator like me would unblock it and you could be on your way. Also, you don't need to inform anybody for your frequent editing with AWB or with other automated tools like Huggle etc. It's only when your edits exceed a certain limit that you need to be careful (please read the WP:AWB page for relevant details). Having a different name for AWB usage allows you to track your own mass changes, and allows your primary username to be devoid of automated edits (sometimes, this is helpful in RfA analysis, where some editors vote negatively in case you have a high percentage of automated edits). Please contact me for any further help. Wifione ....... Leave a message 05:17, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
BRfA has now been submitted at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/AusTerrapinBotEdits. Intent is for frequent edits per minute (5-10, subject to my ability to check changes and network/server speed). Thanks for the advice. AusTerrapin (talk) 19:29, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wow,you go through all my edits looking for incivility? You really need something better to do. Those comments were in reaction to seemingly ridiculous PROD policies which are different from AfD and CSD nominations. I was unaware that PROD tags cannot be reapplied; it's ridiculous that they can just be removed be poor-intentioned editors and force AfD. I hate prod, and rarely use it because of all the problems that exist with it. It's a waste of time. Note: I am not watching this page and have nothing more to say. — Timneu22 · talk 11:29, 28 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
