Hi from one New Englander to another![edit]

Hi! My name is Emma and I just joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink. I'm a new user taking a class about Wikipedia at American University and I just wanted to reach out to some experienced editors to see if you had any advice to give. I'm from Massachusetts, too (Western MA). Glad to meet you! --Emmakknight (talk) 19:29, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! I'm looking for additional input in this discussion - please comment if you have an opinion. Cheers! bd2412 T 02:45, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated Susan Lynch (pediatrician), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Susan Lynch (pediatrician). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Horologium (talk) 19:14, 11 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Two judges per week.[edit]

Greetings! At Wikipedia:WikiProject United States courts and judges, we have bot-created thousands of articles on United States federal judges. Of those 1,272 currently still have their bot-made cleanup tag. If just a dozen editors will each commit to cleaning up just two of those articles every week, we will conquer the entire list within the year. Most of the articles are quick and easy to clean up, requiring only a few minor adjustments of bot-created awkward wording. Please consider joining this effort, and committing to cleaning up two judges per week for the year. Cheers! bd2412 T 03:19, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Spring 2011 Campus Ambassadors[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Coupon settlement requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ttonyb (talk) 01:08, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to join WikiProject United States[edit]

Hello, Whoisjohngalt/Archive 1! WikiProject United States, an outreach effort supporting development of United States related articles in Wikipedia, has recently been restarted after a long period of inactivity. If you are interested please add your Username and area of interest to the members page here. Thank you!!!

The article Pine Belt has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This unsourced article appears to be original research. Other than (1) the use of "pine belt" to refer to the Hattiesburg area of Mississippi (covered in Pine Belt (Mississippi) and (2) use (mostly in the late 19th and early 20th century) in agriculture/forestry/ecology publications to refer to discrete places of other states -- including North Carolina, New Jersey, California, and Alabama -- where pine trees grow, I can't find any evidence on Google for the use of this term.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Orlady (talk) 03:00, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Capricorn Holdings requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Guoguo12--Talk--  01:16, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

February 2012[edit]

Hello Whoisjohngalt. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article John Galt Solutions, Inc., you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about following the reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Hertz1888 (talk) 16:55, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the explanation on my talk page. I'm glad the similarity is only coincidental and that there is no COI. Hertz1888 (talk) 17:25, 23 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

About your edits on the article Brassiere[edit]

According to this page, http://news.yahoo.com/correction-odd-austria-medieval-bra-story-163635933.html , the brassiere found to be 600 years old should not be counted as modern design of brassieres, and therefore I think it shouldn't be included in the article about brassiere. File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Erica Ferencik.jpg[edit]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Erica Ferencik.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status and its source. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously.

If you did not create this work entirely yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. You will also need to state under what licensing terms it was released. Please refer to the image use policy to learn what files you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. The page on copyright tags may help you to find the correct tag to use for your file.

Please add this information by editing the image description page. If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please also check any other files you may have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 02:49, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Jack Morton Worldwide Logo.png[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Jack Morton Worldwide Logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 16:10, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:The Boston Courant April 5 2013.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:The Boston Courant April 5 2013.jpg, which you've attributed to (Newspaper). I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:53, 8 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article List of burn centers in the United States has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Most of the entries on this list are red links that will probably never receive an article or are just notable hospitals that happen to have burn wards.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —Ryulong (琉竜) 04:06, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikilinking[edit]

Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:

  • dates
  • years
  • commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
  • common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).

This applies to infoboxes, too. Also, could you avoid capitalising the start of each item in a running list within an infobox?

Thanks and my best wishes.

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.blackstonevalley.org/chamber/.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. TheLongTone (talk) 15:39, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Image without license[edit]

Unspecified source/license for File:Byron Stigge office window.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Byron Stigge office window.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

Proposed deletion of Ministry of Supply (disambiguation)[edit]

The article Ministry of Supply (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Only one encyclopedic topic with this title; and even if an article ever gets written about the other one, a hatnote would suffice per WP:TWODABS.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. R'n'B (call me Russ) 14:31, 21 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Ministry of Supply (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Eagle East Aviation requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. File permission problem with File:Thomas Menino Funeral Program.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Thomas Menino Funeral Program.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:33, 5 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. 2016 election ad revenue[edit]

I do not feel that this is an appropriate subject to be in an article's lead. Generally, a lead should not introduce content that is not discussed in the body. Plus, I question the relevance of these numbers on the articles to begin with. ViperSnake151  Talk  03:28, 28 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Green Line derailments[edit]

The Globe article you cited is some good old-fashioned fear-mongering, well disguised as it is with the fancy charts. They don't normalize by vehicle miles traveled, so what they're essentially measuring is that the MBTA runs a large, high-frequency light rail system. That doesn't take away from the longstanding issues with the Bredas, or the buried lede that the MBTA hasn't been doing the requisite track-grinding, but I'm not convinced that it should be in the article in a section that's focused on major derailments and collisions. Pi.1415926535 (talk) 14:32, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Pi.1415926535, I tend to agree with you, but this section had not been updated in a few years, and the section is titled "Incidents and accidents", not "Major derailments and collisions." Again I agree, most of the major cities light rail systems do not share the tracks with cars, busses, and trucks.Whoisjohngalt (talk) 15:13, 13 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Whoisjohngalt. I see that you are a member of WikiProject Companies. Would you be willing to look at an edit request on the Lubrizol Talk page? If you look at the page now, you'll see an About section that includes two random facts. I have proposed to replace About with a section outlining the specialty chemical company's operations. You'll also see that I was in discussion with another editor, who suggested that others work on the request. Because of my conflict of interest, I am keeping my involvement on Talk pages. A tag has been placed on Category:Restaurants in South Dakota requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and it is not presently under discussion at Categories for discussion, or at disambiguation categories.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Help with article for Choice Hotels chairman[edit]

Hi there, Whoisjohngalt. I found your name at WikiProject Business and it looks like you're an active editor working on company and biographical articles, so I wondered if you'd be interested to help with an edit request for Stewart W. Bainum Jr. He is the chair of Choice Hotels and has had a long business career, as well as holding political office in Maryland at the state level. What I'm proposing is a new draft to improve the structure of the article, fix inaccuracies, and include more details about Mr. Bainum's business and political careers. From news clippings provided by Mr. Bainum and from research on Lexis Nexis and HighBeam, I've been able to find a lot of older sources with information about his political career and how he developed the company that became Choice Hotels. In full disclosure, I have a financial COI as I'm here on behalf of Mr. Bainum and I'm reaching out to get feedback and help taking live appropriate changes. It would be great if you're able to take a look, as any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 16:56, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would be happy to help with your article on Stewart W. Bainum Jr. The best way I've found to get this dome if for you to build the article in a sandbox and let me review and post. I tend to be a Wikipedia inclusionist, so let's get this page done.Whoisjohngalt (talk) 17:13, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! Thanks for agreeing to take a look. I uploaded this draft to my user space. For your reference, I've also posted this edit request at the Stewart W. Bainum Jr. Talk page with a few notes about the changes in the draft. Thanks in advance for reviewing my draft! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 14:21, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Really appreciate your review of the draft and taking it live, thank you so much. Sorry to then ask for something else: if you have a second would you mind adding his photo to the infobox? The permissions was just confirmed via OTRS the other day and it snuck past me... Here's the file: File:Stewart_W._Bainum_Jr.png Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 20:38, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again for placing the image! With that, this request is all set. Thanks! 16912 Rhiannon (Talk · COI) 21:30, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The article Yoeun (given name) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Doesn't seem to meet notability - no refs, only one entry (who has a mention in an article, not one of their own).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Help with Edit?[edit]

Hi Whoisjohngalt,

I'm Ed and I'm a Wikipedia editor but also a consultant to NBC News. I noticed you made an edit to the Andrew Lack article when Meghan Kelly was hired and I wonder if you might be interested in doing a review of a proposed redraft of an article about the president of MSNBC, Phil Griffin? Right now it's only a stub. I wrote a full article at Talk:Phil Griffin

I really try to abide by all Wikipedia policies, and that includes an independent review of proposed changes because I have a relationship with NBC. You can leave review approval or comments on the Talk page, or actually implement the changes yourself.

Thanks for considering this.

This page appears to be a direct copy from aarp.org/about-aarp/executive-team/info-2016/jo-ann-jenkins.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 13:45, 23 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Move and Realtor.com drafts[edit]

Hello, Whoisjohngalt. On behalf of Move, I've proposed expanded Move and Realtor.com articles as part of my work at Beutler Ink. I'm not editing either article directly, given my COI, and I've been seeking neutral editors to review both drafts for accuracy, neutrality, and verifiability. I've made improvements to both based on editor feedback, since they were first published back in September. Both have received compliments and helpful feedback, but so far no one has finished copying over the proposed text to replace the existing articles. I see you are an active member of WikiProject Companies, so I wanted to see if you'd consider taking a look at one or both drafts.

Here is a link to the edit request for the Realtor.com article, and my proposed draft can be seen at User:Inkian Jason/Realtor.com. This diff shows improvements based to the article based on feedback provided by four editors. I'll spare a longer breakdown for now, but of course you're welcome to review the edit request in more detail if you are interested. Similarly, Talk:Move (company) has an edit request to implement the proposed draft seen at User:Inkian Jason/Move (company). This diff shows improvements to the draft based on feedback by User:SMcCandlish.

The edit requests might look scary at first glance, but mostly this is just discussion about article improvements, and really now I just need someone to do final checks and copy over proposed markup. If you're not interested, that's ok, I will keep looking, but thanks for your consideration. Inkian Jason (talk) 20:08, 30 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
