Hi, here is a vote related to Western Sahara, it's about the neutrality of wikipedia in this conflict, are you interested? Daryou 18:29, 21 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Egypt stubs[edit]

Hi there! Thanks for all your work on the Egypt categories. I agree this area is in total disrepair! I was thinking of proposing a WikiProject for Egypt along these lines [1] so it would be a collaborative effort for Egyptians and anyone interested in Egypt on the areas needing work. Perhaps we could start by brainstorming on a list of tasks. It doesn't have to happen soon, but whenever time allows.

Also, nice to see a fellow Zamalkaweyya :) - Zerida 00:33, 28 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Translation request[edit]

Hello, I saw that you are a native speaker of Arabic, so I would like to ask you if you could take a look at 2003 invasion of Iraq and Iraq War. There is a featured article in Arabic which we would like to know how it could be used the English one which is of course dominated by people who have either been there as soldiers or have their knowledge from western media. Someone also asked if the section about "related propaganda and phrases" could be amplified with information about the Iraqi side. Maybe there are also people who took photos in Iraq at the Arabic version? Nameme 16:23, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not blank pages as you did to Hany Ramzy Actor. In this case, you should have proposed a deletion at Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion. Thank you. --Zoz (t) 10:02, 1 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. By the way, if you intend to create an article about Hany Ramzy the actor, you should name it Hany Ramzy (actor) according to the Manual of Style. This way you wouldn't even have to worry about Hany Ramzy Actor being deleted. Cheers, Zoz (t) 20:21, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Qana Conspiracy[edit]

It is possible to tag the page with something warning readers of your fears? I dont have the knowledge about the tags to know that. If it gets deleted they will just recreate it in a way more POV fashion. 82.29.227.171 19:59, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What about

{{Disputeabout}} with the text "This page contains information from blogs and conspiracy theories from bloggers with a political agenda which wikipedia cannot verify, only discuss"

or some text of your preference which brings in the wikirules about not using blogs/bloggers you identified, then link it to the topic you began on the talk page?
I try not to write so much on wikipedia and have only made some articles on my home country before under an ID. I have one or two more articles to write- on the propaganda warfare and on the myth of blending then I will take a break for some months. 82.29.227.171 20:39, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I added a warning, is it possible you can support on talk here?. Thanks 82.29.227.171 15:57, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mideast Facts/figures[edit]

Would you like to team up and work out some of the details? I am fine with most of whats in there now, although it is inaccurate. It also appears to be a POV push sorting on criteria which puts Israel at the top :) I am no expert on which criteria would work- do you mean deaths in conflict, battles fought, bombs dropped? I would like to write something about US aid to the mideast which would fit in a table form nicely, thats the only thing I can think of. I can get a username for this but my IP is static afaik. 82.29.227.171 15:31, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Mema is actually the name of a zionist I know, it is a joke that I use her name :) I agree the article is POV and needs re-written- will look for some ideas on what to include there. 82.29.227.171 19:09, 9 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your support on the US aid article. That editor really is beyond belief :) Anyway, I did some research into sources for mideast facts & figures. I thought splitting the military and economic/social would work best given the amount of fields to incorporate. A table on the actual battles etc is most likely covered in the 'order of battle' sections of the respective outbreaks of the conflicts. However figures are available for a listing of military strength and economic power in the region. This may or may not be useful. Here are some fields, figures are available for the countries stretching from Morroco to Iran and include Sudan.

Economic

Year GDP (cp) GDP (pc) Real GDP growth CPI CAB Imports fob Total Gov expenditure Defense expenditure Defense expenditure/GDP Population
Algeria

Military

Personnel Ground Forces Air Force Navy Elites Police divisions Brigades Tanks APC Artillery Combat Aircraft Helicopters Combat vessels Submarines
Algeria

The military/economic details come from Israeli sources but the economic details could just as well come from independant sources. More can be included in the economic, and figures also exist for ethnic/religious makeup of the various countries. Regarding the infant mortality rates etc this would be good alongside information on emigration statistics to give an idea on the 'health' of a population. I am looking for sources. It would of course be listed by country name, not something that arbitrarily puts Israeli at the top. Let me know what you think and any fields that are missing. Its ok to remove this once you see it, thanks. RandomGalen 22:23, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Heykal.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Heykal.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kjetil_r 16:22, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza![edit]

Welcome, Wedian, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Thanks![edit]

Hi Wedian! I appreciate the barnstar, thank you 8-). I know the article is fairly long, but trying to condense 5,000 years of copiously documented history in a quality but limited article is no easy task. I think it also comes from my irritation by the lack of a comprehensive article on the Egyptians since Wikipedia launched years ago, even though just about every other ethnic group has had one! It goes to show how much people know about Egyptians, so I think the info is important to share. Actually, there were two more things I wanted to add: expand the section on Contributions to humanity (a lot to be said there) and create a separate section on Egyptian women and the feminist movement in Egypt. Lack of space won't allow me clearly, but I'm thinking of a separate article on Egyptian feminism. I'm not sure how the Egyptians' collage constitutes OR? I checked Wikipedia:No_original_research#Original_images and didn't find something that applies. — [zɪʔɾɪdəʰ] · t 07:38, 27 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll see what I can do about replacing Ruby's image with Sherin's. In choosing the pictures, I worked within two main criteria: copyright-free (the harder part) and diversity. I felt it was important to include images of Egyptians both from different historical epochs and different cross-sections of Egyptian society. I mean, what do an Azhar mufti, a radical feminist and a pop singer have in common? The Fayum portrait is of a virtually unknown man, but it represents a Roman-period Egyptian. I chose Rahotep because his statue is one of the most well-preserved and lifelike representations of an ancient Egyptian. I was going to include Zewail but his GIF on Wiki messed up the collage because of the format. In any event, I think one Nobel Prize Laureate is sufficient to maintain diversity. — [zɪʔɾɪdəʰ] · t 07:15, 29 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

November Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

My edits[edit]

Hi, Wedian. Nice to know you too. I understand your point of view concerning my edits in the message you left me. These edits were automatically generated by AutoWikiBrowser. However, your are right about that making an edit only to remove or add empty space is not correct. I only thought that any edit made by AutoWikiBrowser is OK. However, this seems to be incorrect. In the future, I will limit the usage of the WikiBrowser to only correcting spelling mistakes.

I, after reaching this far in Wikipedia (seven months of experience and 3000 edits), intend to focus on quality of my edits. I noticed also that there are about 129,000 unassessed articles on WikiProject Biography as can seen here. I will try to rate some of them. By the way, since you are more experienced than me (Your first edit is on 11 November, 2005.), the Portal:Egypt page needs to be designed. If you can help, please do. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Meno25 (talkcontribs)

Editing on the Arabic Wikipedia![edit]

Hello Wedian Why aren't you helping at the Arabic Wikipedia? don't you know that it needs everyone who understands Arabic? --Alnokta 00:50, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My short experience in the Arabic wikipedia wasn't a delightful one. The
problem as i see it, is that Arabic wikipedia is too Arabic.

Sorry to hear that..but I don't know what do you mean by 'too Arabic'...

I remember i commented on an article, a biography of a famous scientist
which was copied and pasted from another website. The only reply i gotby
an experienced user - was that copyright isn't really important because
this was a biography!! Biographies were full of bias, mostly written by
advocates and it seemed nobody really cared about neutrality.

Yes, I can see why you were set off but I can tell you that there have been serious changes there and policies were written to organize biography related articles. beside that..why didn't you edit & correct these biographies? you should be bold when editing as the fellows here say. :)

Now we are ironing the policies of copyright infringement issues(copying from other websites, etc...), you should come in to have your say.

it seemed nobody really cared about neutrality

Will you please come again and raise that issue(and articles)? there is now some people who do care about neutral point of view.

writing scientific articles in Arabic is an extremely difficult job

I know believe me, I do. but it isn't that extreme ;)

Arabization of science seems much beyond the scope of wikipedia.

Will you believe me if I say that this is the greatest chance for the Arabization of science?

You will ask why is that smart ***?

I will answer saying; if we write an article in which that article is accessible to every Arab with an internet connection and we agree(voting,opposition,support,democracy,etc...) on the scientific terms written in it and on the content itself then we will standardize the scientific terms which will lead to the success of the Arabization because as you know standardization is our big obstacle in our way...

We have a great opportunity here and we should seize it in my opinion, Wikipedia can help us create a great thing if we just believe in our language again.

I contacted you because you are a pharmacist, I think of you as a treasure, no kidding... if you make your mind on enriching the Arabic pedia with articles on pharmacy science, you would have made a mile stone...

Saving the Arabic language is in our hands now because _our_ governments don't give a damn thought about Arabic... if Arabic didn't acquire & contain the needed vocabulary now, it will stale...

Finally, I hope I didn't annoy you and looking forward to see you in the Arabic Wikipedia.

A cup of tea for you![edit]

Hi Wedian! I know it's been quite sometime since you've edited. I do hope you'll see this cup of tea! I just wanted you to know that your contributions are valuable to making Wikipedia what it is, and I do hope you'll participate with a new edit or article. Thank you for your contributions - past and future! SarahStierch (talk) 20:28, 21 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You have previously shown an interest in Wikiproject Viruses by adding your name to our List of Participants. We are currently reviving the project, and would be grateful if you could indicate whether you are still interested in contributing or not on our Talk Page. You do not need to have expertise in virology to contribute to our project, as we welcome people with any degree of knowledge of the subject.
Thank you.

Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa[edit]

Hello,

I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabell@doualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahf@africacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.

If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/

Best regards, Islahaddow

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mansoura University requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://mansoura-edu-students-result-eg.weebly.com/facts--figures.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Contests[edit]

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:39, 21 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
