Burmese script errors[edit]

The errors you mentioned (such as the wa instead of wa swè, placement of tha way hto behind a consonant) are errors with the browser, and not the spelling in Unicode. Currently, few fonts ([1]) and [2]) support complete Unicode. But each requires an engine to place the symbols on the bottom, left, right, and top. So I would suggest updating your Uniscribe engine, or downloading a Graphite-enabled browser. Sorry for the confusion. I discussed this with a Wikipedia administrator and he said using an image to display chracters in the introduction (such as I did for 'shinbyu') is okay, but to use Unicode throughout the rest of the article. Spelling of 'Roman Catholic dioceses in Myanmar' in Burmese[edit]

Also, do you happen to know the spelling of 'Roman Catholic diocese' and 'Archdiocese' in Burmese? Frankly, I have no idea. Thanks. Hintha 20:57, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sao Pan Thee[edit]

Hello. Since you are quite knowledgable in articles relating to Myanmar, can you help me with something? Recently, I identified an article about "Sao Pan Thee", and with Wikipedia consensus, it was decided that the article was a hoax. I'm not sure whether he is a hoax, but I have personally never heard of him. If you have heard of him and can find a reliable source to support that he is related to the musician Sai Sai Kham Hlaing, can you add that to the Sai Sai Kham Hlaing article? Thanks a lot. Hintha 05:30, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a lot. Some user has been adding all sorts of information about Sao Pan Thee on Shan biographical articles, and it just seems strange that every Shan person who has the name Sao or Sai is a "cousin" of Sao Pan Thee. Hintha 21:24, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review for Myanmar[edit]

Hello, I have begun a peer review for Myanmar. Please express your opinions at Wikipedia:Peer review/Myanmar. Thank you. Hintha 21:41, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sanda Muhki[edit]

Oh, sorry. I'm not really knowledgable on nats, so I assumed this was a nat. I'll remove this image. Also, if you know a brief history of the 37 Great Nats, it would be great if you could add that information to the article. Thanks for telling me. --Hintha 20:51, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oops, I didn't catch that. I've add it in.--Hintha 03:09, 12 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A new user has proposed the rename of our project. I intentionally used both names so that all views would be represented. But I would like your thoughts as to which name we should choose, Burma or Myanmar, or leave it like it is. Please share your thoughts, thank you. Chris 19:11, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for Image:IMG 0979.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:IMG 0979.JPG. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:06, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Image Thanks[edit]

Thank you for Image:IMG 0557.JPG. Hintha used it to fulfill a seven month old request I'd made for improving Zayat. GRBerry 06:20, 25 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading so many photos from Myanmar! I have adjusted the color levels a few of them (the close ups of publications of Ludu U Hla) and properly attributed and licenced them to you. If you don't like these changes, please feel free to revert my editing. Thanks again for the great photos. --Hintha 21:09, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Photos of Zegyo and a Panthay Chinese mosque in Mandalay[edit]

I noticed you've uploaded many photos from Mandalay. I was wondering if you have a photo of Zegyo and a Panthay mosque in Mandalay to share on Wikipedia. I remember seeing a large Mongol-Chinese-style mosque in Mandalay, before eating Panthay noodles, and forgot to take a picture. If you do, please notify me. Thanks. --Hintha 08:21, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tofu[edit]

Hello, thank you for all the detailed information about Burmese tofu, which we couldn't find any information about. What is rice tofu, though? What is it made from? Is the rest of the Burmese tofu information that was there before you made your additions accurate? Badagnani 20:54, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Did you take the photo? It's so good! Can you tell me what exactly is the material this tofu is made from? Badagnani 20:56, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, why isn't the name pebya/péprā used? Does that term refer to a different kind of tofu? And why does the spelling differ from that given at the top of the article: tiuphü? Badagnani 21:01, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, all very helpful. I see some things in the old discussion (was that you, using an IP, back then?) that are not yet in the article. Maybe you could go through it and add to the Burmese tofu section to make sure everything is explained fully. Badagnani 21:56, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rice tofu photo would be great! I actually think each of these foods (chana dal tofu/yellow split pea tofu, rice tofu, and Burmese agar jelly) merits its own article. Would you like to create them? Badagnani 21:57, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You say "hence the name hnapyan gyaw," but you don't say why it's "hence" called that. What is the literal translation of this name? Badagnani 22:04, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Does "hsan" mean "rice" or "rice flour"? If "rice," then what is the name for "rice flour"? Badagnani 22:14, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If it gets a separate article, it will still be mentioned briefly in the tofu article, with a link to the full article. Of course, we now know that Burmese tofu can be made with three types of powder (four if one counts Burmese soybean tofu as a fourth type). The Burmese tofu article could discuss them all, with photos. Badagnani 23:35, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On Tofu[edit]

In your Tofu article, you had Chickpea as Kala-be. I don't think this is correct. Chickpeas are brownish and larger in size. Kala-be is more yellow, and if I had to make a guess, it is yellow split peas. And chickpeas would be sadaw-be. On a related topic, in the shan states, the fried crips are called tofu-gauk (skin of tofu), not tofu-gyauk. Also in parts of shan states, Kengtung for example, they make tofu out of peanuts or groundnuts. Kanbawsa 01:37, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Uploading images onto Wikicommons[edit]

Can I upload some of your images onto Wikicommons (especially the rarer photos of authentic Burmese foods, and other shots of landmarks like the Hindu temple in Mandalay), where they could be used on Wikipedias of all languages? I will definitely credit you as the photographer. Thanks for your great work, by the way. --Hintha 05:41, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry I didn't respond quickly enough. I've added her name to the Amar (disambiguation) and Amar pages, though. --Hintha 03:07, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Burmese tofu[edit]

Hi, I just got a package of U.S.-produced chickpea (not kala chana) flour, so I'm going to try the recipe you put at Burmese tofu. In reading the recipe carefully, I think this is really less like tofu and much more like Muk (Korean food), such as Dotorimuk. The method of boiling, then letting it set and slicing up is exactly like Dotorimuk, which I have also made. Can I ask, is Burmese tofu's dough fermented at all, or just simply mixed up with water and heated? Badagnani 17:15, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I think one difference between Burmese tofu and Korean muk is that Burmesee tofu is made from whole beans/peas (as with normal soybean tofu) rather than just the starch from acorns/buckwheat/mung beans as in the Korean jellies. Badagnani 19:35, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you help with this request? Badagnani 04:27, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bravo to your work at Glutinous rice. The information on the various traditions for each Asian culinary tradition is excellent. This again confirms to me that Wikipedia is often the best source for some specific subjects on the Internet. Badagnani 04:27, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Burmese tofu[edit]

OK, I made some Burmese tofu (but without straining it in that complicated procedure to get it fine-textured)--I just mixed the flour, water, salt, and turmeric and boiled it for a while, then let it cool in a dish. It's not bad--similar to Korean dotorimuk, I think. I tried frying it but it stuck to the pan. I think I didn't use enough oil. Badagnani 04:27, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please help render "Be Prepared", the Scout Motto, into Burmese? Thanks! Chris 05:28, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much, I very much appreciate your help!
You've likely got the right idea, staying outside the WikiProject, I had to quit for a while, there was a lot of weird stuff that Hintha and I had thrown at us by a POV editor, I got burnt out. Chris 21:15, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with Image:Thakin Kodaw Hmaing.JPG[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Thakin Kodaw Hmaing.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 18:40, 27 April 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. GeorgHH (talk) 18:40, 27 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Thakin Kodaw Hmaing.JPG)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Thakin Kodaw Hmaing.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:28, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Commons is a repository of free media that can be used on all MediaWiki wiki's. The image(s) will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:Laphet oke.JPG]]. Typo redirect Pinlpbu[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Pinlpbu, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Pinlpbu is a redirect page resulting from an implausible typo (CSD R3).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Pinlpbu, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. A tag has been placed on File:IMG YunnaneseTemple.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. --Rrburke(talk) 17:11, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:IMG 1089.JPG[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:IMG 1089.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. — ξxplicit 03:37, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:IMG 2996.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:IMG 2996.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 13:26, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Nice to see a Burmese wikpedian adding text and imgs to my articles on Burma. Thanks for embellishing them. I have written four artciles in the last two weeks on Burma related topics. You are free to add and and or edit as you are the user most knowledgeable on Burma. I had visited Burma in the early 1970s several times and seen some of the Buddhist temples in Myanmar, Pagan (now Bagan), Manadalay, and also the two mighy rivers - Chindwin and Irrawady. Can you give me some useful web links on Tamanthi Mulipurpose Project. Another user wants me to expand this artcile. I have seen the dam site of this project in 1973, as a consultant.Thanks--Nvvchar (talk) 01:05, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with File:IMG 2716.JPG[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:IMG 2716.JPG.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:44, 9 April 2012 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 20:44, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:Mandalay Media.JPG.

While the image description page states the source and copyright status of the derivative work, it only names the creator of the original work without specifying the status of their copyright over the work.

Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the original image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. Thanks again for your cooperation. Stefan2 (talk) 23:51, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation[edit]

Your upload of File:Buddha statue at Kuthodaw.JPG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! File permission problem with File:Thakin Kodaw Hmaing (circa 1958).jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Thakin Kodaw Hmaing (circa 1958).jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 09:30, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. ESEAP Conference 2018[edit]

Hello Wagaung,

I’m Irvin from PhilWiki Community, a member of the Communication Committee of the ESEAP Conference. ESEAP Conference 2018 is a regional conference for Wikimedia communities throughout the ESEAP region: ESEAP stands for East, Southeast Asia, and Pacific. Taking place in Bali, Indonesia on 5–6 May 2018, this is the first regional conference for these Wikimedia communities.

East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific are the most under-represented regions within the Wikimedia community. There is a significant number of Wikimedia contributors in our regions, yet we continue to struggle in establishing a well-managed community. This conference will bring participants from various ESEAP communities together in order to better understand the issues and to look for solutions. It also aims to connect people of the Wikimedia movement within ESEAP regions, to share ideas, and to build regional collaborations that are impossible to achieve through online communication.

We’ve got a lot of participation from several countries, but we’re lacking from your country. As we need more participants from your country, we believe that your contribution and participation would be a valuable asset to the success of this event. If you would like to participate in the conference, please do fill the form as soon as possible (by April 5, 2018) and we’ll inform you if you get selected for the conference.

Thank you and we hope to see you soon. --Filipinayzd 16:09, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
