Hello! I see you made edits to Charlotte Grimshaw to add her month of birth, but didn't support this addition with a citation to a reliable source. It's only appropriate to provide a year of birth for a living person, unless their full date of birth is widely published by reliable sources; see WP:BLPPRIVACY for more information. The National Library record only includes her year of birth. Hope this makes sense, but please let me know if you have any questions. Chocmilk03 (talk) 07:43, 15 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Kia ora. Charlotte Grimshaw's date of birth is 14th December 1966. Because she is listed as being born in 1966, Wikipedia keeps adding a year to her age. She is not 55 all this year of 2021, she is 54 - until December 2021, when she turns 55. How do I know ? - because I am Charlotte Grimshaw, a woman who is old enough already, and doesn't want another year added to her age...

Hi Charlotte. I can absolutely understand that, and appreciate it may seem ridiculous to be asked for sources for your own birthdate. (You may feel some sympathy with this letter by Philip Roth, and you may also want to take a look at WP:AUTOPROB which is about addressing problems in your own Wikipedia page). The problem is everything in Wikipedia must be verifiable. I can think of two options here, neither of which are ideal:
  • I can remove your year of birth entirely from the article, but another editor might come along and add it back in (since there are reliable sources for it); or
  • If you are willing to add your month of birth to your official website somewhere, that would meet the test in WP:BLPPRIVACY (i.e. "Wikipedia includes full names and dates of birth that have been [published] by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object to the details being made public"). You don't even need to add your year of birth as that is covered by other sources.
I'll take the first option now, since I can easily do that, but as noted it may only be a temporary solution, so do consider the second option. P.S. I love your work and am really looking forward to reading The Mirror Book. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 16:07, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
P.P.S. Further to my comment above, just to note that WP:BLPHELP contains further information for subjects of biographies that may be of use. Chocmilk03 (talk) 17:02, 16 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

Please help me with... Not sure if I'm asking this in the right place. I had an exchange on the talk page because I decided I was sick of Wikipedia adding a year onto my age every year on the page for Charlotte Grimshaw (nz writer). I was born on 14th December 1966. Every year Wikipedia lists my correct age for two weeks until the year changes and it makes me a year older. So every year I turn two years older. A minor problem but it's wrong and it's annoying to have the wrong age quoted everywhere. I am not 55, I am 54 all this year of 2021 - and I can't seem to get Wikipedia to change it. My website gives my correct date of birth. @Victoria Street: Hi Charlotte, I have put this through for you. Appreciate that it's been frustrating and thanks for updating your website to provide a source (I know it seems ridiculous, but it's because of a need to protect the privacy rights of living people). It may take a little longer for the change to filter through to Google and any other sites that index Wikipedia, but it should happen. Cheers, Chocmilk03 (talk) 08:21, 21 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
