Rapid transit system?

Err, I don't think there is no Rapid transit system in Klang Valley. Rapid KL is no rapid transit system. The company's long name is Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Kuala Lumpur, short into RAPID KL. Maybe if you still want to categorise it that way, I would suggest RAPID KL system, or not categorise at all. Thank you. --Zack2007 10:27, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

It is not so official but most Malaysians understand and news/radio use the term Klang Valley because it is the most accurate way to describe the region. I don't mind retaining it though. ps - Category:Rapid transit in Klang Valley is not appropriate. --Zack2007 05:20, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Template:Malaysian general elections

Please do not move this back to Template:Malaysian general elections. It is the standard title for national election templates, of which there are over 130. pro or con?

are u pro- or anti- UMNO/Malay/NEP/Islam? and it is true theres a lot of anti-Malaysia Malaysian in wikipedia, almost all the articles written are from source which accepted by wikipedia but not by Malaysia. like ketuanan Melayu or Malaysia or watever, had never use source from the inside. and alot other are just anti-Malaysia articles.--Towaru 15:31, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Malaysian Articles

I'm from the UK but my family comes from both Malaysia and Singapore, and I have the agree that the quality of Malaysian articles is awful. I'd be happy to rewrite articles in British English so if you need help with language give me a message. JameiLei 17:38, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Constituencies

Regarding edits on: Parliamentary constituencies and state assemblies of Malaysia. From my understanding, Constituency borders does not correspond the official District borders. I think most articles in WP refers to the "district". eg: P.173 Putatan: Putatan is actually a town located in the district of Penampang, in which Penampang also got a constituency (P.174). Within P.173 also are N.17 Tanjong Aru, and N.18 Petagas. Tanjung Aru is actually located in the district of Kota Kinabalu. The borders seems to transcend each other. So, thats the reason I didnt create embedded links. I could be wrong for other Constituencies though. kawaputra 05:02, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

Templates

Sorry if I caused any offence by deleting the stuff on there - I just thought it was a bit pointless as hardly anyone is likely to go to the template pages themselves, and I like to keep the amount of text used on Wikipedia to a minimum to preserve precious space :) I keep an eye on all the election templates, and sort out any wrongful additions pretty quickly. New map for msian city infoboxes

hey 200%. i changed the map for the city Sandakan. what do u think? is too complicated? i made other models in Commons: Image:DynamicSabahblank3.PNG (with lighter border color) and Image:DynamicSabahblanknwhite.PNG (black n white). any comments welcomed, but dont b too harsh :p. i havent got the district outline for other states tho'. kawaputratok2me 14:09, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

Airport Rail links

THe category:airport rail links is supposed to be the category for the rail system that connect the city and the airport (usually express). Examples being Gatwick Express and Canada Line. Both are in the category. Wouldn't KLIA Ekspress and KLIA Transit serve the purpose of an airport rail link and would deserve to be in the category? --Zack2007 14:07, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Mind you, Gatwick Express and Canada Line don't have their own categories. Express Rail Link does. And Express Rail Link represents both KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit as the airport rail link between the KLIA and Sentral, just like the Kuala Lumpur Star Light Rail Transit article representing the Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line. Both services, which have their own categories, are already nestled in Category:Express Rail Link. We are also referring to a single airport-Sentral link used by both KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit, so it's rather inefficient and redundant to categorise individual services when a single category dedicated to both services is already listed.

Why other articles on airport rail links list individual articles in Category:Airport rail links despite having their own categories is beyond me. But even if we comply to this standard, the Express Rail Link article should be the article to list in Category:Airport rail links, not KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit. - Two hundred percent 01:30, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

What do we do now?

It seems that the RapidKL company has named both Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line as Ampang Rail Line or simply Ampang Line (for both lines). what should we do with the two articles that we have? should we merge them?--Zack2007 04:18, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

Disambiguation? Why not rename both to Ampang Line (Sentul Timur-Ampang line) (from Ampang Line) and Ampang Line (Sentul Timur-Sri Petaling line) (from Sri Petaling Line) as sub-articles to the Ampang Line (renamed from Kuala Lumpur Star Light Rail Transit)? There are still distinctions between the two lines by their southern routes, as well as their time of completion. Of course, you want to move Ampang Line and Sri Petaling Line first, before moving Kuala Lumpur Star Light Rail Transit. - Two hundred percent 05:20, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Thanks mate. I think we just let them stay where it is for the next couple of weeks at the very most. I just emailed them about the inquiries. I know its a long shot from them replying but then it's worth a try. Besides, KL Monorail will be taken over by RapidKL soon anyway. So they would announce more changes. So we will keep and stay updated with the news.
By the way, whenever ur free, can you check where do ppl need to hop rapid KL buses in KL Sentral? Is the map [[Image:Klsentralst.gif]] still valid after the reorganisation of bus number by Rapid KL just a few days ago? I know the numbering have changed though. Thank you very much for ur help. :)

Probably a good idea to rename Kuala Lumpur Star Light Rail Transit to Ampang Line (rapid transit system) instead. The confusing naming is going to be difficult to readers because it's still associated with the Ampang-bound line. As for the two lines, simply renaming Ampang Line to Sentul Timur-Ampang line and Sri Petaling Line to Sentul Timur-Sri Petaling line should be better. They don't give any further name for the two branches of Ampang Line. I will change Kuala Lumpur Star Light Rail Transit to Ampang Line (light rail transit) Rapid Transit System?? They never call themselve rapid transit system, incidentally their name's acronym is rapid, but they are not rapid (as in a term for a rapid transit). But then, it is arguable. What do you think?
I will stick with renaming these : Ampang Line --> Ampang Line (Sentul Timur-Ampang) and then redirect Sentul Timur-Ampang Line to it as well as, Sri Petaling Line -->Ampang Line (Sentul Timur-Sri Petaling) redirecting Sentul Timur-Sri Petaling Line. I think eventually, we will have to merge these two operations anyway. But for now, we stick with these two lines in separate article.--Zack2007 07:52, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
Light rail transit commonly refers to tram-like trains that run on low-speed rails, occasionally along roadways. I know "light rail transit" is what the transit company still refers both the PUTRA and STAR lines as, but it's an inaccurate description of the nature of the system. The services are more accurately classified as rapid transit systems, due to their traveling speed and railway design. Because the system is simply renamed as the "Ampang Line", there's no restriction to describe in the article's title exactly what form of transit system this is, as it was when it was still commonly known as the STAR LRT.

Secondly, the use of "Ampang Line" and "Ampang Line (disambiguation)" for all three articles are equally confusing because neither two sub-lines are specifically referred to as the Ampang Line, made worst by the fact that the Ampang-bound line is still known publically as the "Ampang Line". Because there are now no current names for the two sub-lines, it's preferable to simply name the lines as per their actual description (i.e. by their start and end route). So long as there is no new names given to the two lines, this "starting station-end station line" naming can still accurately cover the nature of the line, while avoiding the need to change the line's name again and again whenever the transit company sees fit, or the overlapping of the name of the whole system among the main article and sub-articles. - Two hundred percent 08:45, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

I've noticed two changes in the Rapid KL website. Apart from the integration of Ampang/Sri Petaling Line to Ampang Line. There is no mention about Light Rail Transit or LRT at all (except on one page http://www.rapidkl.com.my/ampangspline.htm), the rest talks about Rail Network, Rail Station, etc. I think they notice the mistake by introducing the word LRT in the first place. Please take note of the changes. It is subtle but they are doing the changes silently, I believe. However I am not convinced that we should rename it into rapid transit system, as we are not a policy maker. I am more incline to disambig like what I am doing in Ampang Line. Rolling stocks

Is this real ? I have never seen this kind of configurations before, I'm only aware of the six (2+2+2) and four (2+2) cars trainsets for revenue operations. All the cars I have seen so far have only one connectable-walkthru-side, so that is why they only have the 2-2-2 or 2-2 trainsets. Can you verify ? Although some literature online may have claimed that this is so, as far as revenue cars are concerned, I don't think it was ever put in service. Not that I'm saying it is impossible.

On a side note. The description above sounds very much like the three-classes EMUs for KTM Komuter. I believe it would interest you to know that Komuter once did have two trainsets coupled together for six-cars trains services for Seremban-Rawang a few years back. I've scanned some newspaper clips that I saved years ago after I left hi-skool (11 years back, LOL). There is a mention of the "intermediate" car thingy, but I don't think that STAR elected to use that configuration at all, if you look at the Utusan article, you'll see that the trains ran at the (then typical) four-car (2+2) trainsets, before rapid-kl decides to stay with the current 2+2+2 ones. Oh no, you're right. The shorter variation is a 2+2 after all (it doesn't suggest that the configuration is no longer in use though). I was under the impression that it was a 3-car version; even if a 3-car variation exists, I can't say I have seen it, so the error should be corrected and the Commons image will be renamed. Speaking of Wikimedia Commons, if you don't mind, may I interest you in a batch of images on the KL rapid transit lines, Komuter, and KL Monorail for you and your coleagues' digestion. Rail network map

Since the Komuter lines in particular stretch beyond city limits, we need to reconsider the viability of including network maps of the same size for all related articles and templates (so simply using the same map with lines in different opacities is no longer recommended), and displaying rail lines in this image and its derivatives.

I only agree to the exemption of far reaching stations if they are not relevant to the actual topic of the article. Images such as Image:Paris Metro map.gif and Image:London Underground Zone 1.svg tend to leave out stations outside its boundaries to focus on core areas and specific lines. So, when explaining the Sri Petaling Line only, crop the network map to focus on the Sri Petaling Line; when explaining the entire KTM Komuter system, crop the network map to focus on the whole of both Komuter lines.

The full map will only be good if it's used to illustrate the span of Peninsular Malaysia's railway system (including outlying stations and lines from the north to the south at Singapore's Tanjong Pagar railway station). I would also prefer an additional network map, in a geographically accurate scale to be used for the rail transport in Malaysia article. - Two hundred percent 18:38, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Use of "the" preceeding station names

I've edited out "the" before KL Railway Station because normal English usage is not to use the article with a railway station name - I can't think of any examples, except where "The" is part of the name from which the station takes its name, eg The Mound railway station in Scotland. I can't see that whether its called KL Railway Station or KL Station makes any difference in this respect. Birdhurst 09:51, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Kelana Jaya Line station code

With regard to "official" usage, it's a point that you won hands down (not that we are having an argument or anything). But all those KLS, MJD, KLJ codes are indeed actually used by rapidKL in their operations of the system. You can see it on the stations approach marker on the track (TBHN, TBHS) and even on their fare table.

But I have to concede to the fact that it's not something that is used as obvious/prominent as the Sxx and S6x of the old STAR-LRT. On a side note, in favor of your argument, I'd notice that STAR also use a similar 3 letter code, usually for the billboards at the stations e.g BTS at the Bandar Tasik Selatan station. So those codes for PUTRA-LRT then could have mean nothing more than abbreviations. But then again, it depends on your definition of station codes. I'll leave that for you to decide. Been very busy with work (like normal salary-men), and all the wiki-ing time that I can afford, I am spending them on the geographically accurate map of the LRT lines that you asked for. There are some progress on that and I'll let you have a sneak peek here.

And since we are talking about a certain flood-prone LRT station, perhaps you'd be happy to hear a piece of good news, from Rapid KL nontheless :) especially with regard to the construction around there.


And beginning 16th June, RapidKL will gradually cease the usage of the manual ticket (paper ticket) for the system, which is a really really good sign, though I could be wrong
