Raw (The Alarm album)[edit]

Do not revert good faith contributions without comment- such actions amount to vandalism. Those images are not required in the article- Wikipedia has very strict guidelines about when non-free content should be used. J Milburn (talk) 12:23, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They are important as they demonstrate the differences between Country and promotional releases. Please do not remove maintenance templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to Dave Sharp, without resolving the problem that the template refers to, or giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Maybe would be constructive to list why you choose to destroy someone elses hard work. Where is there a copyright violation? Although Wikipedia encourages anyone to contribute, the founding principle of a free encyclopedia is that it only uses freely licensed text. In the case of Dave Sharp, the article contained text copied directly from a webpage at Dave Sharp.org which was copyrighted two years before the Wikipedia article. Here are a couple of examples of direct plagiarism that it included:
The article read:

In the mid 1970s, Sharp formed various experimental punk rock bands, often based in the area around Rhyl where childhood friend Nigel Twist was now living.

The source read:

In the mid-70s, ...Sharp formed various experimental punk rock bands, often based in the area of North Wales around Rhyl where childhood friend Twist was now living.

The article read:

Dedicated to live music and particularly to the acoustic form, he found it a venue to explore his musical influences..

The source read:

Dedicated to live music and particularly to the acoustic form which Dave adored, he found it the perfect venue to explore his musical influences.

Because of the substantial plagiarism, it was necessary to delete the text. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously. This not only protects the entire project from legal action, it also protects the hard work of the original copyrighted author. Trevorsem, this is the third time that the copyright violation issue has been explained. Although we welcome and appreciate your contributions at Dave Sharp, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. It is illegal. This article was copied from http://www.davesharp.org/archive.asp?type=Bio&id=19 (archives predate: http://web.archive.org/web/20050405063206/http://www.davesharp.org/archive.asp?type=Bio&id=19), and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy.
