March 2009[edit]

Stop adding nonsense to Wikipedia, including talk pages, as you did to Talk:Natasha Richardson. We are trying to write an encyclopedia here, so please keep your edits factual and neutral. Our readers are looking for serious information and will not find your comments amusing. Remember, millions of people read Wikipedia, so we have to take what we do here seriously. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Ward3001 (talk) 00:26, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the "postmortem" thing[edit]

While your attempt to spark discussion was removed, you do have some valid points to which I'd like to respond. Basically, biographies of living persons (which may technically still include Richardson, since she's only recently deceased) are a different animal than your regular articles. For liability reasons at least partially, it's extremely important to get the facts right in these sorts of articles- thus we cannot announce a death until it's become very clear that it's occurred. In this case, because of all the speculation and gossip journalism, the best choice was to wait for an official announcement that her death was confirmed. It's never a small problem to have incorrect information, especially of this magnitude, in a BLP article. Above all, however, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. It's not a news source, it's not a memorial, it's not a publisher of original thought. We don't just go and automatically add the newest, hottest occurrence and discuss it at length while ignoring prior matters. Anyway, that's my take on it. I think if you want to get wider discussion of what you posted, you might want to go try sparking it up at the Biographies of living persons policy discussion page. —/Mendaliv//Δ's/ 01:35, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

When a death occurred[edit]

While it's important to wait until a death is unambiguously confirmed before saying that it definitely happened, there's no reason not to debate how and where it occurred AFTER the death has already been confirmed. Just keep all controversy about the death's details on the talk pg until we get reliable sources to back us up. — Rickyrab | Talk 02:02, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
