License tagging for Image:Hughes Spingarn Medal Ceremony.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hughes Spingarn Medal Ceremony.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 20:08, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Re: Thank you[edit]

Re: your message: Of course! No problem! I swear, vandals just must think of more interesting things to write. At least half of what I revert is "so-and-so is GAY GAY GAY!" or "so-and-so is BLACK!" It's amazing how a site like Wikipedia can get so many smart people and so many dumb people. Anyway, good on you for doing so much work on the Langston Hughes article! Just skimming it, it looks great - I'll have to read the whole thing later on today. See you around! - Tapir Terrific 15:14, 14 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks, it took me awhile to make it haha. Zhang Guo Lao 19:59, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No problem at all; that vandalism was weird. Did you look at the changes, and the notes I ended up posting to the vandal's talk page (User talk:159.53.110.142)? I had to assume good faith, so I started out with the assumption that he was just mistaken, but he kept changing the university from PA to MO right up to the final {{test4}} warning. Is this a common thing in that article? -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 17:38, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I could say it wasn't a common thing, but it is. I don't understand the minds of these vandals. The scary or very weird thing is that the article appears to be the target of one specific individual a lot of the time. This individual only targets the Hughes articleTonyCrew 17:46, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone is getting really tricky about his vandalism...I noticed this vandalism after I did a revert. It's apparently been there a while, buried in a citation. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 03:19, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tricky is an understatement. It took me a bit of effort to find it, not seeing it at first. These vandals are so discouraging to the time and effort placed on every Wiki article. Thank you again. And, THANK YOU for having really keen eyes and catching this vandalism. TonyCrew 03:30, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I feel kind of bad, because I sent a vandalism warning to the guy who edited it previously, then I had to go retract the warning when I realized the vandalism had already been there. (But I don't know what the previous guy changed...maybe added or removed a space). -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 03:33, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

==Langston Hughes (2)== shalounnnnnnnnnnnn No problem at all; glad to help. I've signed up to put Langston Hughes on my watchlist as part of WikiProject Biography's Counter-Vandalism Department, so I'll keep an eye out for that sneaky vandalism you mention above. —Celithemis 04:38, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so very muchTonyCrew 20:51, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tony, I'm happy I could help protect an article that you (and others, but mostly you) have worked so hard on. It does look like LH is being targeted by a specific vandal, but the article has several defenders now, so hopefully the trouble will pass. Still, I'll continue to keep this page watchlisted, and if you have similar difficulty elsewhere just let me know. Good luck and happy editing :) --Doc Tropics Message in a bottle 16:48, 17 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  Thank you, Doc. TonyCrew 20:51, 25 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! It's my pleasure. Vandal-patrol is one of those things I do when have ten minutes free here or there during the day, or am too uninspired to write something original; it's kind of fun swatting vandals, in an odd sort of way. LH is an important article and I always check changes to it. Cheers, Antandrus (talk) 23:25, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tony, I replied on my talkpage, but it's always a pleasure to assist a valuable contributor. Let me know if you make it to the Keys : ) Doc Tropics 19:47, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Langston Hughes[edit]

Not exactly routine vandal patrol -- I added Langston Hughes and some other African-Americans and civil rights activists to my watchlist to patrol for racist vandalism. Disheartening to see as much of it as I do, but thanks for the thanks! --lquilter 20:48, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Thank you[edit]

You wrote on my talk page:

Thank you for catching the vandalism to the Langston Hugehs article. I know you were doing routine vandal patrol, still, THANK YOU. All you guys on vandal patrol should be given medals for just volunteering for such an important service here at Wiki.

Thank you for the kind words, Tony; I'm glad to help out, and there's more than enough vandalism to clean up. Thanks for all the effort you've obviously put into the Langston Hughes article. It's a pleasure to do my small part to keep the jackals away from it. Take care. --JFreeman (talk) 03:49, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TonyCrew, you're welcome. Edivorce 14:12, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Er... thanks. I'm usually on vandal patrol and I would have reverted any vandalism in the article... except there wasn't any, and I didn't revert anything. The only edit I've ever made to that article was to change the image to a newer, cleaner, bigger one. Thanks for the compliment anyway, I'll keep an eye on it for vandalism now. —Vanderdeckenξφ 19:35, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your kind words. However, after some period of time it should be unprotected per wiki rules but still protection is the best way. I am long-time disgusted of vandalism of African American articles. Many times, daily, I revert dozens of vandals there. - Darwinek 19:18, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Hughes with children.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Hughes with children.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. I have tagged Image:Hughes_with_children.jpg as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. If this image is being used as a link target instead of displayed inline, please add {{not orphan}} to the image description page to prevent it being accidentally marked as orphaned again. License tagging for Image:Langston_Hughes_1902.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Langston_Hughes_1902.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:08, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File permission problem with File:Hughes and Gwendolyn Brooks.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Hughes and Gwendolyn Brooks.jpg, which you've attributed to Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 23:56, 30 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
