Orphaned non-free media (File:Gnu gzip logo.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Gnu gzip logo.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:27, 20 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Dolby Pro Logic II.svg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Dolby Pro Logic II.svg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Hello, Timothy Gu, and thank you for your contributions!

I wanted to let you know it seems an article you worked on, Bahrain National Gas Company, is copied from another Wikipedia page, Banagas. It's fine to do this as long as you provide the following information in the edit summary:

  1. a link to the article you copied from
  2. the date you copied it

You can do this now by editing the page, making any minor edit to the article, and adding the above information into the edit summary.

If you're still not sure how to fix the problem, please leave a message at the help desk. It's possible that I made a mistake, so feel free to remove the tag I placed on the article.

Thanks again for helping build the free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 20:38, 14 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The "Banagas" article is not the company's official name, so I decide to move the contents. Also, someone has already removed the tag for me.

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Banagas a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Bahrain National Gas Company. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Beagel (talk) 04:14, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am sorry that I did a "cut-and-paste move". When I moves the content, I didn't actually considered that as a "move", and I don't have any experience on moving before. Now I know how to move a page correctly. Thank you! Timothy G. from CA (talk) 17:01, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for September 25[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited FFmpeg, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages MIPS and ARM (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your "Do not cite" order![edit]

Hello, Tim

I am calling in regard to your contribution #613622678 to Template:Latest preview software release/Adobe Flash Player, in which you added the following:

Do not cite here. There is already a citation on the main article.

There are a couple of problem:

  1. I don't see the main article's citation. Of course, more than one year passes from your edit and things might have changed.
  2. Even if the main article has a citation, there is no excuse for saying "Do not cite!" in Wikipedia, whose policy is Verifiability. If you are worried about repeating citations, you should use the name parameter of <ref>...</ref> and the <noinclude>...</noinclude> portion of the template to avoid redundancy.

Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 21:19, 9 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Codename Lisa:, thanks for this information. I'll keep this in mind the next time I edit something. Timothy G. from CA (talk) 01:43, 11 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Conflict of Interest - Contributor[edit]

Hi Timothy,

Thanks for the note about the edits I made to the Kahoot! page. The original content was incorrect and out of date so my intention was just to make sure that people have access to the correct information. No intention to mislead anyone or to advertise.

I'm pretty new to Wikipedia so am struggling to work out how to place a disclosure on the page. Will do as soon as I can figure out how to do so.

Kahoot! page edit requests[edit]

I'd also like your guidance on how to correct or request an edit for two parts of the Kahoot! page; 1) Apparently in the owner details "Kahoot! Edu" should read "Kahoot! AS". 2) Another user has added a paragraph under Usage which states:

But, with a resource that everyone can use, some students make "spoofs". Where there are comedy questions. This misuse can disrupt schools replacing the title a educational resource with "toy/distraction".

The comment isn't particularly helpful as it would be possible for students to make "spoofs" with any platform - whether it is MS Word, Powerpoint, Scratch, Minecraft, C++ or just plain pen and paper - so the teacher would manage that behaviour in the same way they deal with other such disruptions. We have moderation in place to deal with anything they create which could be inappropriate or harmful.

It's also worth nothing that some users specifically choose to use the platform for "brain break" / reward - the questions are entertaining or funny and not focused on "learning", but the break itself benefits the learners either by re-engaging learners, allowing students / colleagues to get to know each other and better collaborate or learn together, and to serve as a reward they can earn after they've worked hard in class.

Hello, this is Ghazal Omid,

A tag has been placed on Template:Latest preview software release/Empathy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an unambiguous misrepresentation of established policy.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
