Infoboxes

Hi. You just added a bunch of consorts and children to the infobox on Ninhursag. However, there was a problem with your edit. Infoboxes are summaries of article content. If something is not mentioned in the article, it may not be listed in the infobox. New material should be added to the article, with citations. Then the information may be added to the infobox without citations. Anything which is only mentioned in the infobox will be removed or reverted. Skyerise (talk) 13:11, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

I restored the list, as it seems they actually all mentioned (I think), though there is some variation in the presentation of names (some Sumerian, some Anglicized). I moved the sources cited to the further reading section, so they can be easily added as citations in the Consorts and children section where needed. Skyerise (talk) 13:49, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

Bēlet-ilī and related matters

Hey, wanted to wish you good luck with the ongoing work on Ninhursag, but also got a question if you'd be interesting in also potentially cooperating on bringing the article "Belit Ilani" - of course after the title is adjusted to reflect the most common spelling, ie. Bēlet-ilī - to an acceptable level? I initially considered proposing a merge with Ninhursag tbh but seeing as the epithet could be applied to many goddesses, including some who have little to do with her, right now it seems optimal to just make it actually comprehensive and cover all uses. Hello @HaniwaEnthusiast:, apologies for not replying sooner, things have been kinda hectic for me lately. In any case, the name Bēlet-ilī apears to have originally been used for Ninlil (as explained in Reallexikon der Assyriologie), and subsequently became a common epithet of Ninhursag. The only other notable thing I'm aware of is that it was also the name of one of the "daughters of E-Meslam", Nergal's main temple in Kutha. This is clearly meant to be a minor goddess (likely Nergal's daughter), and not any of the high ranking goddesses the epithet was usually applied to. By the way, feel free to edit Ninhursag and any of the other articles I might be working on, your skill in gathering all this information and writing it all down in a comprehensive manner is truly impressive. There's a couple more, actually:

• Wiggermann cites a case of Urash being addressed with it here, p. 291 (awkward paper to read and it suffers from the need to make all fit into a single narrative but that's beside the point); this is unique as far as I know, and a list exclusive.
• Zarpanitu gets to be belet-ili in Archive of Mystic Heptads (which sadly remains unpublished to my best knowledge) which has a heptad (ogdoad?) of "belet-ilis", there's a translation here, p. 129; another instance of it being used as epithet of Zarpanitu is on p. 130. In the same book Westenholz also mentions a funny phenomenon of this epithet being provided with an artificial Sumerian translation (nin-dingir-re-e-ne) on p. 90.

Hello again @HaniwaEnthusiast:, I was already aware of Urash and Zarpanitu being referred to by the epithet, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was used for various other goddesses as well. What I meant by Bēlet-ilī of E-Meslam being notable is that it appears to be the only instance of the name being used as a theonym rather than an epithet.
