Shoudn't we merge these two userboxes? Most people who use {{User:The Raven's Apprentice/Userboxes/User Metric}} aren't deliberatly saying they prefer CGS to MKS... Segv11 ^{(talk/contribs)} 07:44, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Do we also want a category, while we're at it?

I created the {{User:The Raven's Apprentice/Userboxes/User Metric}} userpage Babelbox originally for exclusive use on my own page. After a while, I decided to share it and so I coded a proper template 2 months ago. I want it known that although I am totally happy to free all my text contributions to Wikipedia without any licensing, I take exception to others modifying my work intended for the User section(s) of this website. Below is the ONLY design I will accept as a replacement for the existing two. To address the above comment, I believe that saying "metric system" is far more understood than saying "SI system", although to differentiate between the CGS and MKS variants, SI is displayed on the left hand side of the box and is the link used if someone clicks on the words "metric system". (I believe the real concern is people who use the imperial system as opposed to those of us who don't). I would take great offense if my wishes are not considered, enough for me to not bother with the Wikipedia project anymore, since this template is the only thing I feel guarded about. Although I plan to change the colour scheme to something better, so fear not. Finally, I don't think a category is advisable since it would be too trivial; a Babelbox is enough if it isn't too much as it is. - Aaron Jethro 18:02, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for yr. supportive comments, the template has been altered to the above design. {{metric}}, {{User:The Raven's Apprentice/Userboxes/User Metric}} and {{User:The Raven's Apprentice/Userboxes/User Metric}} tags will now all display the above Babelbox. Woah, sorry, my edit summary was meant to read: "Try-out design. Please respect my wishes & don't alter anything without consulting me". Not really sure what happened there, I think I was so intent on writing the WikiLink for the 'my wishes' bit that I somehow forgot to finish the sentence, but now this should hopefully explain the 'Try-out design' bit, as I would hope people will leave feedback here in regards to the new design, like Segv11 has below. I'd be a bit silly to post a design on a wiki website and reckon that it was set in stone, but as I said above, it's the one thing I feel protective of. I kinda like the new colours you're using... But I think "SI" should remain allcaps, as it is an initialism for "Système International'. Segv11 ^{(talk/contribs)} 05:41, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

I reckoned that the new lowercase design would be consistant with all the other original (linguistic/programming) Babelboxes. For example, on my user page I have an HTML userbox, which is also in lowercase, even though the name's usually written all in uppercase. Yet if you still think it should remain in capitals go ahead and change it back. - Aaron Jethro 17:11, 9 January 2006 (UTC)

Hmm... Actually, the languages are in lowercase because ISO 639-1 defines them to be so. The programming babelboxes are in lowercase because lowercase is popular among programmers. :) I particularly don't think we should stick to these standards because there are already many popular userboxes with images... ≈ Ekevu ^talk _contrib 19:12, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
