Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Buffalo Bisons (NL), it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. NatureBoyMD (talk) 14:44, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Now I'm waiting for access permission from a WordPress user to access the relevant source on the Winnipeg Whips page. The usage of the note implies that the page gives the whole chain of franchise moves; if so, then I assume I can try again, this time sourced? Tawaki (talk) 15:49, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • Generally, we don't trace minor league franchise histories across multiple leagues/cites like with major league teams. For example, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders' article reflects the history of that team in its current location since 1989. Thusly, the infobox reflects the team's history beginning in 1989. While it would be appropriate to mention how it got there and where it came from, the RailRiders team has little connection to a major league team from the 19th century. It would seem like a more logical choice to limit the Buffalo Bisons (NL) topic to start with Buffalo Bisons (IA) and go through the Buffalo Bisons (1886–1970) who followed. (@TheNewMinistry: Do you have anything to add?) I'm not sure what you mean regarding WordPress sources, but Wordpress, a blog site, in not considered a reliable source (see: Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources). • What's more is that the Buffalo franchise seems to have been revoked by the International League in 1970. Effectively, the revocation ended the franchise, and the league then issued a new franchise to Winnipeg. Yes? No? (See: [1]) NatureBoyMD (talk) 16:41, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
    • It says in the Whips article that the Expos purchased the franchise and moved it to Winnipeg mid-season. Tawaki (talk) 20:11, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
      • But should it really be considered a continuation of a National League franchise? Again, minor league articles usually reflect history in their current city only. It seems Montreal did not purchase it from the Bisons' owners, but from the league. I'd call that an end to one franchise and the beginning of another. On a separate note, neither the current Bisons nor the Railriders recognize the NL Bisons in their franchise histories per their media guides. NatureBoyMD (talk) 20:58, 19 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
