License tagging for Image:Redocto.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Redocto.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 17:09, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Tonicella-undocaerulea.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Tonicella-undocaerulea.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 06:02, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Washington Gubernatorial 2008.svg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Washington Gubernatorial 2008.svg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by STBotI. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 06:29, 5 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File:Washington Gubernatorial 2008.svg[edit]

Is Washington Gubernatorial 2008.svg accurate? It looks to me like it is, but I ask because another editor has uploaded a rather poor looking PNG image and continues to add it to Washington gubernatorial election, 2008 claiming it is "more accurate" (see this diff for his image and note the edit summary). If the SVG is out of date, could you update it (as it looks superior to the image he created, and I think an SVG is more appropriate for this kind of work)? Thanks! —Locke Coletc 21:18, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That photo was slightly out of date, based on numbers as they stood the day after the election, not the certified totals. Since this is a gradient image, the difference in coloration is negligible. I doubt the other editor would have been able to see the differences between the the coloration in the image that was there and the image based on certified vote totals. Nevertheless I updated the picture to reflect the certified vote totals. I also added some comments on my methodology in the talk page about how I generated county colors, as well as a chart of all of the color values. I hope that helps. Taollan82 (talk) 05:25, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for updating it. Your methodology looks reasonable to me, and of course the SVG looks better than the PNG that was inserted (now removed). —Locke Coletc 07:02, 1 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have another observation about the map. You have Island County broken up with two different colors. Whidbey Island (the long island running down the sound) is the correct color, but Camano Island, directly to the east (between Whidbey Island and Snohomish County) is bright blue. Camano Island is part of Island County, not San Juan County, which is correctly bright blue. You might want to fix that.

As a side note (since you seem to be interested in both image creation and Washington gubernatorial politics), could you create a better image for File:2004 Washington gubernatorial results in depth.png, which has a similar issue with Island County? (In that one, all of Island County is colored as a strong Gregoire county like San Juan County; Rossi won the county with 53% of the vote.) The editor who created that image never responded to a message about the problem on that map. Horologium (talk) 14:43, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing that out. That was an oversight on my part. I will get Camano Island corrected very soon. Also, I will work on the 2004 election results picture as well. Taollan82 (talk) 04:15, 16 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to Meetup/Seattle6, a focus group[edit]

Hello. I'm part of a research group at the University of Washington (Seattle campus), and my group is reaching out to Wikipedians in the Puget Sound area. We're hosting a focus group designed to gather information on what Wikipedians would like to know about each other when interacting on Wikipedia. Our end goal is to create an embedded application that helps people quickly know more about others' history and activity on Wikipedia, and we feel our design will be much more useful if it's based on insights of users like you.

I'm hoping that the chance to help out local researchers, to engage in lively face-to-face discussion with other Seattle Wikipedians, and to contribute to Wikipedia in a new way will entice you to join us. The session lasts 2 hours and snacks are provided. Sessions will be held on UW Seattle campus - directions will be sent after registration. Your contribution will be greatly appreciated!

Willing and able to help us out? RSVP here. Want to know more? Visit our user talk page . Please help us contact other local Wikipedians, too! Commprac01 (talk) 01:31, 15 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:PF box.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:PF box.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 22:06, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
