Regarding Tame Impala[edit]

I wanted to leave a note here to hopefully prevent any misunderstanding that might arise from my edits. I'm assuming that you are a relatively new editor here (that this is not just a new account and you haven't edited here under other accounts previously) of limited Wikipedia experience. (That's not meant to be a dig at you—everyone was new here at some point.)

First, regarding the navbox for the band: I know it seems like these are the perfect places to compile factoids about a band regardless of whether or not there are articles for everything. Despite the fact that it's not uncommon for users to stick lots of info in them, that is not the purpose of a navbox. They are strictly for navigating to other existing articles. I know when I first started editing here I created a number of navboxes for music artists I liked and used them for complete band member lists, discographies, etc. Once I was set straight, I went back and edited all the black and red text out (they really should only have blue links to articles (and not sub-sections of articles, either)). The list of band members is included in the group's article, as is all the other info. I could see starting Tame Impala discography but since they have a fairly limited output, it's not really necessary at this point (but wouldn't be unreasonable).

As for the notability of the live album, notability on Wikipedia isn't about whether something exists or not, it's about whether it meets Wikipedia's standards of inclusion. The standards for albums can be found at WP:NALBUMS. In a nutshell, if an album has limited release (for example, digital-only), hasn't charted, and doesn't have many reviews in reliable sources (publications like magazines or well-established websites), it's very likely it doesn't meet WP:NALBUMS. The notability tag doesn't mean, "delete this article", it's more like, "please help show this album is notable". Removing the notability tag prevents the article from getting the help it needs to meet Wikipedia's standards of inclusion.

In any case, I hope you take this information in the spirit in which it was given, and that you enjoy your time here on Wikipedia. Peace! 173.48.127.216 (talk) 20:35, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tame[edit]

Hi could you contact me regarding Tame Impala. LP Wizardsbrew (talk) 14:55, 16 July 2012 (UTC)User:Wizardsbrew[reply]

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind?, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Why Won't You Make Up Your Mind. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. MadmanBot (talk) 03:41, 21 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Kevin Parker Berlin 2011.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kevin Parker Berlin 2011.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 08:30, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Leif Podhajsky Young Magic Melt art 2011.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Leif Podhajsky Young Magic Melt art 2011.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. —Bkell (talk) 19:11, 13 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Gallery of non-free images in Leif Podhajsky article[edit]

Hi, TameImpalaFan. I've removed a gallery of non-free images from the Leif Podhajsky twice now, and I think I need to explain why.

The images in the gallery have not been freely licensed; they are being used here on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use and therefore must be used only in accordance with the Wikipedia non-free content policy. As a general rule, the use of non-free images in a gallery or tabular format is unacceptable; see WP:NFG. This is because galleries of non-free images are usually just miscellaneous collections of images, so the use of the images does not satisfy the non-free content criteria, specifically criterion 3(a), minimal usage ("Multiple items of non-free content are not used if one item can convey equivalent significant information") and criterion 8, contextual significance ("Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding"). We have these restrictions on non-free content because one of the fundamental goals of Wikipedia is to be an encyclopedia of free content, which anyone can edit, use, modify, and distribute for any purpose. Every use of a non-free image is contradictory to that goal, so we must minimize such use as much as possible.

In addition, galleries themselves are usually discouraged on Wikipedia; see Wikipedia:Galleries. Note that Wikipedia is not a repository of images. An acceptable image gallery should be an integral part of the article, serving to explain points in the text; it shouldn't just be a block of random images at the bottom. It needs to satisfy the following criteria: "Images in a gallery should be suitably captioned to explain their relevance both to the article subject and to the theme of the gallery, and the gallery should be appropriately titled (unless the theme of the gallery is clear from the context of the article). Images in a gallery should be carefully selected, avoiding similar or repetitive images, unless a point of contrast or comparison is being made."

The gallery in the Leif Podhajsky article failed on all these points: it was just a collection of nine of his works, with no meaningful captions to explain their particular relevance or importance or to provide any critical commentary, presented as just a random block of images at the bottom of the article. Moreover, it was a collection of non-free images, which goes against the goal of Wikipedia to be an encyclopedia of free content.

Now, I noticed that some of the images in the gallery had a tag saying that they have been released under some license that allows educational, personal, or otherwise non-commercial use. That's good, but it isn't free enough to be considered free content by Wikipedia; see WP:NONCOM, for example. Since it isn't fully free content, the policy of Wikipedia is to treat it as non-free, and therefore it must satisfy the non-free content policy just as other non-free content does. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for information about the kind of copyright permission we require for images to be considered free on Wikipedia.

Please let me know if you have any questions. —Bkell (talk) 18:45, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apocalypse Dreams[edit]

No, it wasn't the right tag. A9 is only for when the performer doesn't have an article on Wikipedia. If the info is wrong, why not correct it? If you think the thing's not notable, then WP:PROD is the course of action, as there isn't a speedy category for non-notable recordings. Peridon (talk) 18:38, 5 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Edit warring noticeboard discussion[edit]

Information icon Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by UpendraSachith (talkcontribs) 04:04, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

November 2013[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be engaged in an edit war with one or more editors according to your reverts at Tahan Lew-Fatt. Although repeatedly reverting or undoing another editor's contributions may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, and often creates animosity between editors. Instead of edit warring, please try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. While edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, breaking the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you. VQuakr (talk) 06:24, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

lots of rules[edit]

Hi there, you probably aren't doing anything wrong intentionally, but there are lots of rules here, mainly to prevent this place being more of a WP:BATTLEGROUND than it already is. One you may not know about is you can't WP:CANVASS for votes in an AFD. AFD closers shouldn't just count votes, but review policy and strength of the arguments on each side, so don't think you just need more numbers. Finally, I really don't care about big brother, so I'm not going to vote, but you don't have to counter point every argument made. And just think, will having this borderline article remain or be deleted affect your life at all? Let the process happen, don't let it overwhelm you. The-Pope (talk) 01:41, 16 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, crap! Sorry, I had not idea that there were rules in place. Apologies.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notice

The article Live at the Corner (Tame Impala album) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Appears to fail WP:NALBUM

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
