Marcel Louzado[edit]

The article was deleted as a hoax because it made claims which could be checked and which were not true. It contained a long list of tournaments that it claimed Louzado had won. One section was headed "1st Place in all tournaments mentioned below:" and the list included:

  • 2004 World Championships in Bahia Brazil (Heavyweight)
  • 2001 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Heavyweight)

Those claims can be checked: the article World Jiu-Jitsu Championship shows that the winner in 2004 was actually Alexandre Ribeiro and in 2001 Fabio Gurgel. In fact Louzado's name does not appear at all in the list of past winners in that article. What the article says is confirmed at http://www.ibjjf.org/results.htm. I looked at http://www.bjjheroes.com/ to see what confirmation I could find there; it has entries for Ribeiro and Gurgel, but none for Louzado.

I do not doubt that he is a respected figure in the sport of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but anything in Wikipedia must be verifiable from reliable sources, and this is particularly important for biographies of living persons. An article which is found to contain false claims is considered to be a hoax.

If you wish to write an article about Louzado, it will need to show that he is notable, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." There is more detail in WP:Notability (people), and good advice about writing acceptable articles in WP:Your first article. JohnCD (talk) 17:06, 5 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
