Thank you for your support of the Article Improvement Drive.
This week Astronomy was selected to be improved to featured article status.
Hope you can help…

Posted by →LzyGenius 12:11, 11 July 2006 (UTC) on behalf of the AID maintenance team.

The title sounds very desperate.... I'll see what I can do, if anything.... Spawn Man 04:18, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Wow!!! Velociraptor is Featured!!!

This is a message to myself about Velociraptor getting featured after all my hard work since nobody else wants to congratualte me on it. Kinda sick & lonesome, but what the hey, a pat on the back it a pat none the less... So, well done Spawn, you did a great job getting it to the main page & really furthered the Wikiproject dinosaur's cause. Good job... Spawn Man 04:21, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

I hereby award you the Featured Article Star for your excellent work on getting Velociraptor to FA status. Cheers, Sango123 13:10, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
Looks like you beat me to it. ;) Sango123 13:10, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

-- Thanks Sango! -- Spawn Man 21:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Aww... thanks Spawnie, you're too kind. :D Keep up the awesome work! Cheers, Sango123 23:33, 12 July 2006 (UTC)

Warhammer merge

Just to let you know, the two pages for Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer fantasy battle are separate for a reason - the Warhammer fantasy page is about the setting, eg. the Warhammer Fantasy fictional universe, while the WFB page is about the game system itself; there used to be one page, but it got too lengthy so it was split. At least, this is what I believe to have happened, you can check the logs I guess. -- Gizzakk 01:28, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Comsidering your answer... The Warhamer page should be an overview of the WH brand, eg: WH, WH 40k etc. Warhammer Fantasy should be an overview of WH Fantasy, with sections on the armies, how to play, a brief section on the lands etc. From there you can create subpages on the armies, eg: Skaven, subpages on the lands, eg: Tilea, or even Geography of the Warhammer Fantasy Universe. There is no need for WH Fantasy Battles, as it uses the same material (Armies etc) & covers the exact same subject. Splitting because the article was "too big" is no excuse, and it will not pass muster with an experienced editor like me. My plan of attack is, Merge the two pages as per above. If you want an overview of the geography, then create a separate page for it, as per above... Thanks, Spawn Man 01:39, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Assuming good faith

With respect to this edit, I would caution you to assume good faith and beware of making personal attacks. That editor was editing from an AOL address and is therefore shared by many, many users. Calling them a vandal without evidence that it was that editor could well be considered a personal attack. Also, you should be aware that there is no Wikipedia policy that prevents anonymous editors from contributing to discussions, or even from voting on them. Cheers --Pak21 08:10, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm not making a personal attack on a single user, but the person who placed the comment could well be the vandal vandalising certain pages on wikipedia for which the ip address has been warned for. The only evidence I needed for accusing the IP Address of vandalism was the warning tempaltes on its talk. It would be stupid to make an attack at a single person, I merely made it at the IP Address. Also, if you are accusing me of making a personal attack & offending someone, note the wikipedia note at the bottom of the IP address's talk page; "This is the discussion page for an anonymous user, identified by the user's numerical IP address. Some IP addresses change periodically, and may be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user and feel that irrelevant comments have been directed at you, please create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users. If you're concerned with privacy, registering also hides your IP address...". Next time you come & attack me in my area, please come better prepared than accusing me of making personal attack where there were none & assuming that I directed my comment at a single person, who shouldn't be taking offence due to the above note.... Goodbye, Spawn Man 08:28, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
All that is not a reason for ignoring WP:CIVIL and WP:AGF. An exact quote from your message is "you are, 1) A vandal". That is a personal attack on a single editor, whether is was meant as one or not. I just came here to give you a friendly note that your edit could have been interpreted as a personal attack, and to hope that you would perhaps be more polite in future. If you don't want to, that's your perogative, but I suspect you may well end up with some more blocks in your future :-( --Pak21 08:40, 17 July 2006 (UTC)
How was I being uncourteous then by placing the words "You are, 1) a vandal"? This was aimed at the IP address, not at a single person, if you can't see that then it's not my problem bucko! Answer this question: Since I'm wrong in calling the IP address a vandal, was there any vandalism warnings etc on the ip's address? I think you'll find the answer is.... yes. Unless I'm mistaken or the word for vandalism has changed, I think I was only affirming the factual evidence that the IP address had been used by, therefore was a vandal address. Do not threaten me with blocking as I have done nothing wrong. If you take this tone, maybe admins shouldn't block IP's as it may offend other users of it? Yes? Imagine if we actually got to point instead of being so PC so we could ban someone? I stand corrected. Corrected in the fact that I don't want to hear from you again with these lies or I'll get you blocked for threatening & harrassment... Spawn Man 00:38, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

T rex help...

With Sheepy seemingly out & about & nobody really doing anything other than you & me, I suppose it's up to us to get Tyrannosaurus featured! What do ya say? Anyway, I've done all of Tony1's requests, cited almost everything, now one of the biggest objection reasons is : "Once the refs are put into proper bibliographic style and not just URLs I will support..." What the heck does that mean? Anyway, was wondering if you could help with it & possibly find out where these magazines that they want bibliographic are, since I don't actually read them! Would be much appreciated, as I really think this would be a huge upper for the Dino crowd getting the "king" featured. Anything you can do would help. Spawn Man 23:01, 19 July 2006 (UTC). P.S. thanks for alphabeticalising the cats. P.P.S. Are we "cool" if you know what I mean?....

Hi Spawn Man,
Yes of course I will try to help as much as possible. I saw you were working on the article's references, so I didn't want to interfere (edit conflicts and such: there's nothing worse than working on a long section, and then hitting "Save page", only to get a message that says "Someone has edited since you, leading to an edit conflict"). You are right: getting this article featured would be a big boost for the entire project, and yes of course we are cool; I try to never hold grudges, there's just no reason. Keep up your enthusiasm, Spawn Man; it's catching!--Firsfron of Ronchester 23:10, 19 July 2006 (UTC)
That's it. It should be easy. I'm not familiar with the warm blooded debate however. There is a long section in the dinosaur article, so I don't know why we have to have the same debate on every article. We should try & summarise the debate however. You're doing a good job on the refs, so that shouldn't take too long & I'll start on the pruning & finding more refs... Thanks, Spawn Man 00:23, 20 July 2006 (UTC).
Right, got it. --Firsfron of Ronchester 00:25, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

T rex FAC

I've glanced at the text again, and the prose problems (as in the examples given by Tony) haven't been addressed throughout the text. It still needs a thorough copyedit by someone not familiar with the text. Let me know when it's had a thorough once over, and everything is referenced, and I'll have another look. Sandy 03:03, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Got your message: I'll have a look as soon as I can. Sandy 00:02, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Sandy... Spawn Man 00:06, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Amiss:

I'm at a loss as to what to do next with the T rex article. I'll give the article a once over to check for grammar (wow, what a huge reason to object!), but I feel we've done everything else!

  • Sandy - More refs. Check. Alphabeticalize catagories. Check. Copy edit entire text. Will do.
  • Tobyk777 - More refs. Check. Alphabeticalize catagories. Check. Copy edit entire text. Will do. Fix reference formats. No idea what to do here, I think this is your dept.
  • CG - Expand pop culture. Check. Delete other giant theropods section. Check.
  • Tony - Correct grammar points he gave. Check. Overall grammar correction. Will do.
  • Samsara - Reduce section on feathers. Check. Create warm blood debate section. Check. Delete environment section. Check. Place "more credible" citation sources than dinocards. Check for most. Don't know what he has against them, they're not the back of the cereal box card ya' know...!

So we've done practically all of that! I'm amiss as to what to do next, & I've passed 2 featured articles! It's like they don't actually want this article to go through. When I vote object on a FAC, if the nominator fixes some of my issues, then I at least change my vote to minor object or neutral!! We need to get these objections down, or people will see them all & think they should put their's down too! *Sigh* So it you work on the refs & I work on grammar, then that should fix all their problems. And if they still object I say we appeal to Raul or someone... Spawn Man 22:42, 20 July 2006 (UTC)

Don't worry, I'm working on the article right now. No worries, we'll get this bugger thru. :)--Firsfron of Ronchester 23:29, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
I've copy edited grammar throughout the entire article. Funny though, your edit deleted like 10 mins of work though when we conflicted. I'm done copyediting now, the article's all yours... Spawn Man 23:51, 20 July 2006 (UTC). . P.S. Thanks so much for you support & help....
Sorry about that. I hate edit conflicts. I usually end up just saving really often to prevent tons of work going down the drain, or having to pick thru what I was writing, and re-insert all of it. It's a huge pain. --Firsfron of Ronchester 00:03, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Sorry for interrupting your excellent refs work, but I just couldn't wait until we got Trex featured. Here you go! (You don't need to return the favour if you don't want to...). I know we've had our differences, but you've proven you can be a friend despite them (sorry if this all seems a bit smushy...) Spawn Man 00:26, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you so much for the cool, cool, awesome-looking barnstar, Spawn Man. It wasn't neccessary, but it's cool of you. We will get this article featured, demmit! I don't want it to seem like I'll give you a barnstar just because you gave me one, so I'll wait until T-rex gets featured, and try to come up with something cool to give ya. Although, admittedly, nothing's cooler than a T-rex Barnstar! :) Thanks again.--Firsfron of Ronchester 00:43, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Np man.. Spawn Man 00:55, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
You know what? Scratch that. I was going to come up with a new barnstar, a Styracosaurus Barnstar, the BarnStaracosaurus, but my image kinda sucked, and the process for getting a new barnstar approved seems complex, so instead, I'm just going to award you...
A Barnstar!
The Barnstar of Diligence

For your work getting T-rex and other dinosaurs featured. Thanks for being enthusiastic; it is catching! Firsfron of Ronchester 02:12, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks so much dude! Trex hasn't been featured though... I hope all goes to plan... Thanks, Spawn Man 03:41, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Well, do you think it's enough, or should I have another go? Sheep did a ton of work, but is it enough?--Firsfron of Ronchester 08:33, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
The main task now is to collect refs!! And I'm not going to have my FAC declined because of bad refs! Never!!!! Anyway, as a secondary task, just go round copyediting. For God knows what reasons, that is apparently a HUGE issue! C'mon, as if anyone's gonna care if I say "Compared with" or "Compared to"??!! Anyway, we've done our jobs to our full extent (I certainly don't have anymore info to submit!). So now I guess we just reference, copyedit, & let luck & Sheepy deal with the rest... Thanks, Spawn Man 10:33, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Refs

Hi, about your dinocard problem for ref 6, two of those refs can be replaced with links to the muesum collections, like this one for the 4th reference. You could quite easily just remove the sentence about Albertosarus, since this artice is about T.rex. Many of the other ones could also be avoided, by just removing the offending text when the same things is already discussed, in particular the info from ref 22 doesn't add much at all, and could easily be chopped out entirely.--Peta 03:07, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure what I have to do, but I'll try. Thanks for the info Peta... Spawn Man 03:41, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Tyrannosaurus

Hey Spawn,

Sorry I have been gone, my girlfriend's uncle is dying and I have been with her family. But I'm back now to get to work and get T. rex featured! As requested by you, I have worked in some of my sandbox stuff (lead, characteristics, classification, etc). Also, thank you for referencing the article. The Dino-Cards and such were good in a pinch, but I don't think the reviewers like them so I have added more primary refs and such. I was planning on fixing up the article in my sandbox and then putting it out for the Project to critique there, but now the nomination has added some much-needed urgency to the situation so I just went ahead and mixed things up. I know you have had issues with me working on articles before, so if you have concerns about anything I have done, please let me know. Sheep81 03:58, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

And let you take all the glory? ;). Yes, I always seem to rush people, I hate being late. Well at least this way I've stirred everyone into action. Seeing that no one was editing Struthiomimus, I jumped right in & got some stuff down. Quite exciting... Sorry bout your uncle in law, but I don't know him & to be blunt, no sympathies would sound sincere enough, so I'm not going to try & put myself in your shoes. Hope you have a good time being back. Spawn Man 04:18, 21 July 2006 (UTC).
Yeah, I can barely believe I have a girlfriend either. What is she thinking? Anyway, it's okay not to express sympathy, I think that is overdone anyway. I don't really know her uncle, but she likes him and so therefore I like him. Isn't that how it's supposed to go?
Also, sorry if it upset you when I undid your copyediting. I assumed when you said to work in stuff from my sandbox that you wanted me to transfer it over. I hope it looks okay to you. And if you really want to, you can mercilessly copyedit what I wrote and tell me what a terrible writer I am! :) Sheep81 04:22, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
I'll pass. I might just copy-edit though... Spawn Man 04:28, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
Saw you're frustrated over on Tyrannosaurus. Don't worry; we'll get there. Have a cookie. :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 23:03, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
A cookie for Spawn Man.

My dear Spawn babe!

Steven!!! It's great to see you after my wikibreak! :) You know, I had this list in my mind of old friends I had not talked to for some time whom I really really wanted to message upon my return, and you had a place of honor in that list - it's such a beautiful surprise to see you had not forgotten me! ;) I'm so sorry tho to hear about your mom; I swear she'll be in my prayers, and I hope from my heart everything goes ok, hun. Will you keep me updated, please?

Things are fine over here as well, just enjoying a few days off from work, which of course will increase my levels of editing exponentially, at least for a while... and following your example, I've started to contribute to DYK, due to the evil influence of Lar - but I have a long long way to catch you, mr. FA writer! ;) Perhaps someday you'll stop by the article of our State dinosaur with the goal of taking it to FA status - count on a bunch of good pics from our museums if you do.

I really loved to see you posting at the Soundrack of Wikis, and I must tell you we have lots in common! I have not listened to Fatboy Slim in a long time, but all of a sudden I have this urge to undust that CD - all because of you! And thanks for pointing out abot the TOC - I simply forgot to remove it. It looks way better now ;)

It's great to hear you again. Now all we need is to get RDH back somehow! Take good care, my dear Spawn babe - *smoochs*, Phaedriel The Wiki Soundtrack! - 11:26, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

Re: Userpage?

Of course I can format your user page for you! Your plans look great and well thought out, so that leaves just a couple more things for you to decide before I start working on it:

  • Font(s)
  • Color scheme
  • Rounded corners?
  • Other details

Thanks, Sango123 16:28, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Your user page draft is done. You like? ;) Feel free to make any changes or additions to it and to leave suggestions and complaints at my talk page, especially if I've forgotten something. Cheers, Sango123 23:58, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I've made the changes and also tweaked the borders for a more 3D look. The cute animals are a nice touch too. :) Anything else? Sango123 02:13, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
I used ColorZilla to pick up the color at the tip of the arrow, though it's actually a bright blue, and replaced the previous orange. How's everything now? Oh, and congrats again! :D Sango123 02:52, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for this and the lovely rose/IOU card! I'm glad you like it so much; that'll always be worth more than any "extreme" way of saying thank you. Of course, feel free to bug me at any time if you want something changed. Keep me posted on that annual color update, okay? ;) Cheers, Sango123 03:14, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
Done. Sango123 03:32, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
Thanks, dear Spawnie, I'm truly honored by all of your kind actions. :) Well, it's getting late here, so g'night, and don't lose that sense of humor! Sango123 03:52, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Although I think it's great that image has become as popular as it has as a token of WikiLove, I can't take credit for the cookie itself, which is likely the construction of Bob Smith, who also took the photo. I have a hunch though, that it is long dead. Sarge Baldy 23:44, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

T. Rex

The reason I didn't want to make any official pronouncement (I'll insert that I'm "neutral" to clarify) is that the article's largely outside my expertise and there are obviously still "live" issues, which I'm not really able to comment on. Once the copy-edit crew get hold of an FAC somebody like me doesn't have much of a chance - looking back at some of my contributions today, I have been writing in English but using Slovak punctuation, resulting in commas (commata? surely not commatae?) in the daftest of places. I might be able to say more if I did a thorough review, but this looks like an FAC that is already getting a lot of attention so I doubt I'd pick up anything that anyone else missed. I tend to focus on the things that other people sometimes miss in order to make the FAC thorough as possible - references (but you've already been chased for those) and image copyright issues (which you hadn't been so I picked up on it) are good places to start.

If this would hurt your FAC (good luck with it, by the way) I'd feel bad about it and probably spend a good hour or so doing a thorough review (which is what happens when I do get my teeth deep into an FAC) but I don't think there's a need to. I would never say "support" unless I had reviewed something thoroughly, and to be honest it doesn't make much difference. FACs are not run on consensus in the same way as other processes - the key is fundamentally in answering all reasonable actionable objections. Me voting support wouldn't actually help unless I specifically was able to say "and somebody else's objections are not really valid" which kinda helps negate them (if there is consensus that an objection isn't really actionable or relevant or reasonable then that's where an element of consensus comes into it). Since I don't feel able to disagree with anyone else's live objections, the best I can say is that you've answered my sole concern. Hope this sounds reasonable to you, and good luck with the FAC! User talk:Robert Steele and NPA

With regards to your comments on User talk:Robert Steele: Please see Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. "Do not make personal attacks anywhere in Wikipedia. Comment on content, not on the contributor. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users." Please keep this in mind while editing. Thanks. I refer to this diff. I don't know what sparked it, but it is itself unacceptable. GRBerry 16:22, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

My action was justified by the way he treated a fellow editor, for which he was subsequently blocked. I regret nothing. I apologise for comments made against users which don't deserve it. In this case, he was not one of them. My comments hopefully did deter him from making hurtful comments again... Spawn Man 23:54, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Another Wikibreak

Hello anyone who actually cares enough to look on my talk page! Just so you know, I have been having a bad time on Wikipedia as of late, with other users being named as admins just because they are nice, people attacking me because I stick up for myself against vandals & generally not niceness amongst other editors. I'm feeling wikipedia is no place for a person like me, constantly grumpy, seeking attention & being generally unappreciated. Nobody really understands, so if things with my current situation don't improve, I will be leaving wikipedia on either a prolonged wikibreak (longer than my last month-long one) or leaving altogether & not turning back. I am not mucking around, I am seriously unhappy. Goodbye. Spawn Man 08:43, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

My little lady bug wants you to stay, Spawn babe!
Steve, there are lots of us who care incredibly much about you and your extremely hard work. You are by far one of our best specialists (I can hardly think of many people who has managed to get 3 articles to Featured Status!!); and I'm not just talking about me, I'm talking about Sango, Peta, Martyman, RDH, Kirill, SoLando, Firsfron... see how many friends you've got? And we accept you, and love you, just the way you are. I still remember feeling like a cold icicle running through my chest when you said we had seen the last of you last time. I don't wanna feel that again. You helped me to stand high and remain proud when I needed the most, remember? You are truly loved, and appreciated; and all of us deal with stress, none of us is above it. Please, don't even think about leaving. Big big hugs, Phaedriel The Wiki Soundtrack! - 19:12, 30 July 2006 (UTC) Baby, just one more thing - I have seen your message to RDH, and I wish to tell you that I swear, our friendship won't change in the least because of me running for the mop. Did it change Kirill? Did it change SoLando, or Sango, or any other friend of yours? Steve, I'll always be your friend, no matter what. Please, don't go.
I don't have a fancy-schmancy ladybug, but I have extra cookies... What would make you feel more appreciated, Spawn Man? I wanna help if I can.--Firsfron of Ronchester 22:42, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Many of us here do care about you (a lot, in fact), and your wonderful work and presence here definitely haven't gone unnoticed. In addition to your impressive contributions in the article namespace, I simply can't say how much your kindness and sense of humor have positively influenced this project. As Sharon mentioned, no one's above stress, so take a wikibreak and head out to do something you enjoy if you feel the need. Just please don't take a permanent leave; we (including this adorable Red Panda) couldn't bear to lose you. Take care, Sango123 22:55, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks everyone for their kind remarks. If you think I'm taking a break simply to accumulate ego boosting kindness, then you are mistaken however. Thanks everyone though, but I will be taking a wikibreak now on longer thought. Although I will still be maintaining the collaboration as that is my job, I will probably be making minimal, if any edits at all. Thanks everyone. Spawn Man 23:03, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Phaedriel, I couldnt have put it better, so I won't. Spawn M8, if you need a Wikibreak, then by all means take one! But please don't chicken out on us! Remember; if all the good folks leave there will only be pricks and prats left to ruin all that we've created here. Rest, regroup, recharge and reflect on it, bro. --R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 18:33, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Indeed. You've been doing great work on the Dinosaur project, among other places; I think your presence there will be sorely missed. Take a break for as long as you need; but please do come back to us eventually! (As a side note, it might interest you to know that a great many of Wikipedia's finest are Uncyclopedia editors on the side.) Kirill Lokshin 05:02, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't think I've made myself clear.

I reiterate: the Wikipedia policy of No Personal Attacks applies to everyone. There are absolutely no exceptions. If a vandal vandalises your page you are not permitted to personally attack him. There are templates for this use - such as test1,test2,test3 (bv for blatant vandalism) and possibly an admin will block if there's sufficient proof that the vandal is only using Wikipedia to attack others.

Absolutely not in any way are you allowed in any way to make personal attacks to anyone. Period.

As to threatening me with an RfC, this is my response: RfC's are not to be used as a threat. In an RfC, there must be proof that both sides have tried to resolve the problem and there has not been.

Please do not make personal attacks anywhere on Wikipedia. I suggest that you take a walk and calm down before you respond to vandals. Personal attacks and incivility are blockable offenses.

I personally resent the implication that I have attacked you in any way, shape or form "because you stood up for yourself, etc". I told you not to personally attack anyone. This is something I would tell any editor - you have not been singled out for my wrath or whatever you think the problem is. If you are misinterpreting my words, I would advise asking me what my intent is before assuming the worst. My personal mission on Wikipedia is certainly not to make everyone's lives miserable. I suggest not to make assumptions (particularly negative ones) about anyone on Wikipedia because as Wikipedians, we don't know each other (in most cases) and we don't have the faintest idea what each of us are thinking or what our intent is. You are definately assuming the worst about me and you've completely villianised me. I suggest trying to get to know me (or at least ask me my motivation behind things I do - you know, it doesn't show any weakness whatsoever to ask questions) instead of assuming. — Nathan (talk) / 23:46, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

I suggest not to make assumptions (particularly negative ones) about anyone on Wikipedia because as Wikipedians, we don't know each other (in most cases) and we don't have the faintest idea what each of us are thinking or what our intent is. Congrads Natey. You just blew the entire notion of Wikipedia:Assume good faith away. I've been argueing that the concept is unrealistic and outdated for months now. We should be simply willing to cut eachother some slack instead. Especially in cases such as this where someone one was responding to clear and repeated acts of incivility. Understandable if not inexcusable to the WP Politeness Police. But I disagree that Civility is an IRON LAW. By WP:IAR there ARE no Irons laws here...or at least there shouldnt be beyond community consensus. Besides, "Turn the other cheek" doesnt work (see Lebanon). No, I dont think you are a villian here. But you do show poor judgement by siding with a serial vandal over an established and productive constributor. And if you think me incivil for saying so, then it is YOU who are making the misassumptions this time. Good day, sir.--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 18:52, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi though you might be interested in this new whale fossil. If you email me I can send you a pdf of the article if you want to write something up.--Peta 06:15, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

I can't really copy and paste the article anywhere. How come you don't have an email?--Peta 23:52, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh I do, but I don't like giving it out... Spawn Man 23:54, 16 August 2006 (UTC). Btw, what is a pdf?
An adobe acrobat file.--Peta 23:55, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Does it give more info than what was in the news article? Spawn Man 23:56, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
It describes everything about the discovery and where it fits in in the evolution of whales.--Peta 23:57, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, but I don't think I'm allowed at this point in time to give out my email address over the internet. Don't think I don't trust you, I'm just not allowed... :(. Spawn Man 23:59, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
If you know anyone else on the dinosaur project who might want it, let them know I can give them the article.--Peta 00:03, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Waah! I really want it... What a predicament! Cause if I give my email out, then everyone will be able to email me, which we dont want... Are you sure there's no way you can like paste the pdf onto my talk page or something? If not, then I'll give you someone who'll want it................. *sigh*.... *cry*... Spawn Man 00:06, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
You can just use the email user to me, then I will email it to you, noone will see your email but me and I will delete it.--Peta
Or you could direct me to the site where you retrieved the info? Spawn Man 00:07, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Can't read it without a subscription, thats why I made the offer.--Peta 00:08, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
So, how do I give you my email then so only you can see? A step by step pointer system would do wonders... :) Spawn Man 00:10, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Go to my user page, on the side bar there is a thing that says Email this user, stick your email in the box, then I can reply and send you the file.--Peta 00:11, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I've sent it to you, you can take it off your prefs again. --Peta 00:21, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

And noone else will know my email address? Thanks! Spawn man 00:22, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Nope, its safe.--Peta 00:25, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Peta, this is an oppurtunity of a wiki-lifetime! Thanks soo much for thinking of me. I'll get on it as soon as I can. :). Spawn Man 00:29, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I didn't notice a common name when I skimmed through it.--Peta 00:35, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks man! (or girl... :)) I'll put it in a place of honor. Was quite unexpected :). Spawn Man 01:22, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Okay, so this wikibreak didn't last a month like the last one...

But hey, it was a relaxing wikibreak anyway. Thanks everyone for holding the fort while I was gone. Hope you actually want me back ;). Thanks. Spawn Man 23:53, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Welcome back, and good luck with the whale article! :) Also, did you have fun over at Uncyclopedia? Did you write anything worth sharing? :) --Firsfron of Ronchester 02:38, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I wrote 2 articles, & rewrote 1, all of which are on my userpage there. You can find the link to it on my user page here under "Affiliations". Thanks for the welcome back. Spawn Man 23:30, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Great work! --Peta 09:35, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Thnx Peta! Spawn Man 23:38, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

Re: Pic change?

Glad to see you alive and, erm, editing! :D Before making the background change, may I ask what browser you're using? Image:Featured article star.svg itself has a transparent background, so it shouldn't have problems displaying against any color. And I'm also curious as to how my TOC isn't working because it displays correctly in Mozilla Firefox 1.5, Opera 9.01, and the Internet Explorer tab (for Windows, at least). Thanks, Sango123 01:22, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Ah, Internet Explorer... no wonder why it isn't working for you. (Yes, I'm referring to web browsers.) Criticism of Internet Explorer#Graphics standards should explain why the transparent background isn't displaying correctly in your browser. Can I convince you to switch to Firefox? Really, you won't regret it. :D Sango123 03:33, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, I was too, but switching to Firefox was the best browsing decision I ever made... just so you know, if you ever change your mind. ;) I can adjust the graphic's background color to match your userpage, though you're on your own about updating them on that annual color change! ;) I'll work on them first thing tomorrow morning; it's getting late here. G'night, Sango123 03:46, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry to butt in here. Just wanted to say HI, WELCOME BACK SPAWN BUDDY and I agree with Sango 1000% on the merits of Firefox. Plus if you do switch, here's a lil something something you can add to your userpage (just cut n paste;):
Fx The Fox Rox this user's Box.

--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 13:15, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Aww, come on Spawnie, who can resist that box? :P Well, here you go: Image:FA star for SM's userpage.png. Since you let me call you "Spawnie", feel free to make up any nickname you want in retaliation. ;) Cheers, Sango123 13:40, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks R.D.H. & Sango for your kind words & pic changes. They look much better on my page than the yellow ones.Alas, I hate fiddling with my computer as it is already stuffed up (I've sent it to therapy...) as it is. The user box is very tempting, I could still put it in, as who actually knows what I use muahaha.... :). Spawn Man 23:35, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh & by the way, if you have time, as it's no biggy, the background on the star picture seems a little bit darker than the actual user page background. Is it an optical illusion cause I hear that can happen sometimes. In any case (remember... only if you have time...) would you be able to lighten it up? I'm trying to go for the Best-but-not-best userpage award this year.... :) Spawn Man 23:39, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, it must be an optical illusion; I can't see a color difference. Is the image okay now or do you still want it lighter/darker? Sango123 22:00, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Thanks sango! It looks much better now. Anyway, thanks again, hope you have a nice weekend "Sangi"/"Sang oh"/"Sago"? I might just stick to Sango lol... :) Spawn Man 00:48, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Utility of Peer Reviews

Awww - the Stegosaurus peer review was useful. Anyway, got things moving a bit. I had a bit of a mental block on both. Will have a look at Joolery. Cas Liber 04:16, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Surveys

Hi Spawn Man!

Yes, of course I'll participate in your surveys. I left a "yes" on my talk page, but I also wanted to leave a note here and say thanks for your nice message. I'm honored to be considered your friend. I don't have an official friends list on Wikipedia, but if I did, you would surely be on it. :) Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 20:24, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

Happy first edit anniversary, BTW! Many happy returns, and all that. :) Firsfron of Ronchester 22:24, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
Hey, can I suggest that you allow returning surveys by email? I would rather mail my answers back than post, as then I don't have to use a lot of "abstains"... ++Lar: t/c 10:33, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
I agree. If each person's answers can be found in the history of your talk page, this is not a private poll at all. Also the questions are so general in nature that many questions are unanswerable it seems. "Have you ever..." - you mean I have to remember what I was doing more than a year ago? ;) NoSeptember 12:11, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Hi! I just noticed your survey. I'd like to participate too (do I just jump in?). But is it fine if I could email the results like Lar suggested above?-- thunderboltz(Deepu) 12:22, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Survey notice

Hi everyone! Thanks for the quick survey replies! I'll try & set my email up, but I'd appreciate if we kept this all formal & not to include any virus's (my girlfriend would kill me!). I'm shifting the surveys placed here to a safer place when I reach them, but if you want an even more discrete way, you will be able to email me the surveys soon. About general questions, you don't have to remember specifically, & there is always the option of saying you don't remember. Thanks everyone! Spawn Man 21:39, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Email for surveys is now up... hopefully...

I've set up my email address on here so you can now either send me survey answers here or to my email. I'll personally respond to all those who requested it to let them know what's going on. Remember, you have over a week to send in answers & results will take a bit longer. Also, any users which want to join in can simply send in their answers & hey presto, they'll be included in the survey line up... Have a great day everyone! Spawn Man 21:51, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Not set up yet, I got the same error as before, don't forget to confirm your email after you get the message sent to you. Or use my link and I'll reply with my answers.. thanks!!! ++Lar: t/c 21:59, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
As per your talk, this has been fixed. :). Spawn Man 22:09, 11 September 2006 (UTC)

Response to survey

Although I wasn't "issued" with the survey, I saw it on a user's talk page, and decided to fill it out. If you were taking only a selected field for whatever reason, just omit my results - no hard feelings. My results can be viewed by clicking [ Show ]. Daniel.Bryant

Sure you can join. That's how I had hoped the polls diversity would grow. You'll be on the list of subjects for future reference. Thanks DB. Spawn Man 21:30, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Wikiproject Dinosaur's heated discussion

I want to personally thank you for defusing the situation (as of current, we haven't heard what Soo has to say) between Soo & myself. It was, well, quite brilliantly prosed & for that, I can think of no other award than the Civil Barnstar. Keep up your happy attitude. Getting me to not argue is no small feat! ;). Have a great day mate, Spawn Man 08:54, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi Spawn Man,
Thanks for the really nice award. However, I don't think I deserve it. It seems from Soo's latest message that he is still miffed. I know you were just trying to get the WikiProject Dinosaurs team motivated. It was really just a misunderstanding. We all want what's best for the encyclopedia, we just have different ways of going about it. I urge you to just ignore Soo's latest message, and continue working hard, as you always have, on building the encyclopedia. Best wishes, Firsfron of Ronchester 15:45, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
