Chupedia

Do you remember this?

MintWiki - The Online Chupedia

It's live now. I wonder if this Internet experiment will work.

I've thought about the criticisms you gave me. I don't need to become the next Jimmy Wales. However, I just installed the free MediaWiki software into my own website, so I actually do have the powers of Jimbo (in some sense!)

If too many people use the website, it's going to cost me my wallet, so be careful. Creating an account shouldn't hurt though.

Thanks for listening. --Carrot Lord (talk) 00:29, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Good for you :) I might drop over for a visit in a few days or so, when I have more time on my hands. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 04:25, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

EotW infobox

Soni, would you be so kind as to present our new EotW with "her" infobox. We may want to consider this slight delay between Sunday Award and Wednesday Infobox. The info box is dramatic and it will rekindle those fires of "We want to acknowledge your efforts. Thanks. ```Buster Seven Talk 12:49, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

I updated the Project main page, but could not present the infobox to her yesterday. I'll try again and hope it actually works this time. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 04:25, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
Soni...BlueMoonset got his infobox from GoP but he is not included in the Hall of Fame. Now that his template entry has been placed in history I cannot get to it to make the inclusion. What to do? ```Buster Seven Talk 06:56, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Help Me

For some reason my archival isn't working. Can anyone please look into it, and fix it? I want to remove everything from this page older than 42 days. Thanks TheOriginalSoni (talk) 04:59, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Add this code to your talk page top:

{{User:MiszaBot/config
|minthreadsleft = 0
|minthreadstoarchive = 0
|algo = old(42d)
|archive = User talk:Gryllida/Archives/%(year)d
}}

Documentation here: User:MiszaBot/config and the bot would ideally fire within a day. Cheers. Gryllida 05:59, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

There was a typo. I have fixed it. Someguy1221 (talk) 06:18, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Do you want to be a "template teacher"?

Hey Soni, I have an adoptee who wants to learn about templates. As you may have gathered from EotW, I have very little competency and as such told him I would refer him elsewhere. You are the first editor who came to mind. Let me know if interested. Yours, Go Phightins! 20:32, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

I would certainly be interested, but I am unsure of neither my teaching abilities nor Scratch that. I consider myself to be the 2nd best teacher of the world. :P the amount of time I can currently dedicate online, given that I'm bogged down with examinations. Rcsprinter was my teacher who taught me templates, and you may ask him.
I'm still open to give it a try, especially if I have to prepare the lesson right now.
Do let me know what you'll do.
Cheers,
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 20:38, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
    • You would have to develop any program you would want to use; though you could probably copy a templates lesson from an existing adoption course. Rcsprinter123 was my adopter too, and I failed miserably in the templates lesson :)
    • The user in question is User:Johncheverly, and I will let you, if you are willing, take it from here. Thanks Go Phightins! 20:41, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
I started making his lesson. Only time will tell if I'll be able to complete it. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 21:17, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
Also, I offer my services as a template teacher to you too, should you want to learn it ;) TheOriginalSoni (talk) 21:19, 3 April 2013 (UTC)
I may take you up on your offer for me eventually, but right now, I don't have a whole lot of time on my hands . I have directed John to you. Thanks again for your willingness to help. Go Phightins! 21:30, 3 April 2013 (UTC)

Cheers, TheOriginalSoni (talk) 09:18, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Just so you know, its on 6th April, and not 5th. So your greeting is early by 8.5 hrs. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 10:06, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
Does that matter? That's like getting a gift and then complaining about how it's wrapped. You brazenly ask for birthday wishes and then insult the first person to give you one. You ARE 18!```Buster Seven Talk 10:11, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

A cheeseburger for you!

Thanks a lot! I myself am a new user, so what I'll do is stay clear of the nomination, and work as Technical Staff... It you guys have no problem, that is... The Wikimon (talk) 04:27, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

The Wikimon's Adoption

First of all, happy birthday! Hope I'm not too late, it's 11:30 PM eastern time. Now to the point of my message, I asked to adopt the Wikimon with GoP watching over our shoulders. I have an idea though. If you are willing to work with me using GoP's course as a guide, we can guide him through the course together. That way you don't steal him from me and I don't steal him from you. What do you say? ~~JHUbal27 03:29, 7 April 2013 (UTC)

For me, you are only late by 9.5 hours. But thats fine to me :) Thanks!
Actually the reason i wanted to do this was because I wanted to make my own adoption programme. More to the point, i realised I could teach things well after making my first templates class and wanted to try my hands on all the other classes. But if you'd rather prefer to be the only one helping, please do so :) After all, too many cooks spoil the broth. [Also, I can't make committments about my time]
Cheers,
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 03:53, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
Okay, sounds good. You can do the templates lesson at the end, like wth John. That actually sounds like a good idea. After practicing, I could make my own course using what I learned from GoP. Then, there would be so many people adopting new users, I'll figure it out. It all starts with the offer. ~~JHUbal27 04:02, 7 April 2013 (UTC)
Good luck and cheers. Do notify Wikimon that I'd be there if he asks for advice, but that I wont be able to be doing the full-time guiding. TheOriginalSoni (talk)

Jonsonsmith

Jonsonsmith's use of multiple accounts was not innocent. He used his group of accounts to actively attempt to deceive people into thinking he was more than one person at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rajesh Bhola, and the only activity his account has been participating in is trying to create an article about Rajesh Bhola. Given that that he is deceitful and only wishes to create an article that we have a consensus that we should not have, I see no reason to unblock his account.—Kww(talk) 15:08, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

How can we be sure that he was aware of Sockpuppetry being a major crime on Wikipedia? Unlike here, many sites openly support having multiple accounts. Should socks not be warned of the full consequences of their actions before they are punished? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 15:14, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
It wasn't a technical foul, like creating a new account and then editing the same article again without realizing that it was against sockpuppetry rules. He created three accounts and then voted three times. There's no election or discussion scheme in the world where tricking people into thinking you are multiple people and voting multiple times is legitimate. He knew he was lying when he did it.—Kww(talk) 15:19, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
I missed the word "deletion". I was talking only of the AfC page, and did not know that an article had already been deleted. My bad. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 15:21, 17 April 2013 (UTC)

AN/RFC was the wrong place apparently

Hi there. Do you think you might be interested in following through on this? Osiris (talk) 11:32, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

I indeed would. What I am doubtful about is how to proceed. Other than that, I am very much willing to (and wanting to) bring the vote for review. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 04:25, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
As I understand it, we have to post a request on WP:AN for an uninvolved administrator to review the closure. The reasoning you posted at the end is exactly what was wrong with the closure, which demonstrated that nothing more had been used to judge the consensus than a quick count. It's been about a month now since it was closed, but my request on WP:AN/RFC was posted promptly after and wasted away in the backlog. Osiris (talk) 08:45, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
I dont think I'll be available in the next few days, but I wholly support, and would want you to ask for a review in the appropriate forum. I'll try to hop into the discussion whenever I can, but my internet speed does not permit me to do a whole lot more. Sorry for that.
Could another uninvolved admin be directly contacted and requested to see if they can review it? Or maybe using an adminhelp? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 05:17, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

Concerns about infoboxes

Thanks so much for all you have done to give reliability to the early days of EotW. I see that you have contacted User Amad, which is wonderful. Lets wait and see how he responds. As Editor GoPhightins points out, we have a few options available. The Infobox will not be presented empty. As you well know it takes a bit of research and editing to create. Take Care. ```Buster Seven Talk 12:55, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

  • The empty part I was talking of - I meant you can automate the updating of the Project main page, and some other related pages. All that's required is some cool and simple coding, and the use of subpages. The good thing - It makes one or two things easier, and can help make several others easier too. The bad thing - It can complicate several other things, as well as make problems if the updater isnt punctual enough to make the new box before Sunday. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 13:47, 10 April 2013 (UTC)
It can complicate several other things, as well as make problems if the updater isnt punctual enough to make the new box before Sunday.. Can we count on you to create the next userbox? I can help fill it in if you can create it. Even if not by Sunday, Monday or Tuesday will be just fine. Please let me know. ```Buster Seven Talk 18:29, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Message added 13:21, 23 April 2013 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hello Soni, I do not remember if you had an opinion on this discussion or not; however, I'm trying to find an admin that will tell me if what I have is the correct way to request an RfC as I understand it from WP:RFC. I'm feel confident that you will tell me honestly if that is the proper way to do an RfC and leave any thoughts or discussion of the topic the RfC is about to the RfC itself. Thank you. Editing Other's Comments

Dear T: I admit that I was in error in altering another users contribution, I will be more careful. There has been new content added to the page in question since I edited it, though, so I am afraid that if I try a revert, it will interfere with the new content.I appreciate you for having informed me where I was in error, though. Best wishes. RCNesland (talk) 03:21, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

PPS TIP: Try to never use the exact same section title on your talk page. I added a "2" to this one so it could be linked without sending the person who clicks to the first "Help me" way above on this page.
  • Thanks! It worked. I'll ask you again if I have any further problems. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 18:24, 24 April 2013 (UTC)

Please do not remove content or templates from pages on Wikipedia, as you did to User talk:Miss Bono, without giving a valid reason for the removal in the edit summary. Your content removal does not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please make use of the sandbox if you'd like to experiment with test edits. Thank you. I appreciate your removal of the userbox vandalism, but please don't remove content without explanation.

Teahouse Badges

Hey Soni! How are you? Figured I would let you know that I've modified Wikipedia:Teahouse/Badge/Large to include the "message" and "signed" parameters, and I think it looks great and Ocaasi has already included the change in the WikiLove script. Due to the success there, I've decided to tackle adding the ability to specify a number of badges received in the Wikipedia:Teahouse/Badge/Small template and have set up a series of -sandbox templates (Wikipedia:Teahouse/Host-sandbox, Wikipedia:Teahouse/Badge/Small-sandbox, Wikipedia:Teahouse/Badge/Answer-sandbox, Wikipedia:Teahouse/Badge/Easter egg-sandbox, Wikipedia:Teahouse/Badge/Host-sandbox, Wikipedia:Teahouse/Badge/Question-sandbox) and have been testing the changes on Wikipedia:Teahouse/Host landing#Technical 13. For some reason, setting the value of badges to "yes" or "1" changes the placement of the badge. Also, the easter-egg badge seems smaller to me, and I'm not sure why. I know you are familiar with some of this coding stuff, so I figured I'd have you look at it and see if you can offer some improvements. I'm also asking Writ, Sarah, Heather, and Ocaasi to take a peek at it as well and see if we can't get it working right. Thanks. Technical 13 (talk) 22:22, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

And I thought I got a new Teahouse badge! Darn! TheOriginalSoni (talk) 22:36, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
I do intend to create the badge givers badge that is listed on the wishlist after I get this small badge thing working. I thought it took some priority.  :) Technical 13 (talk) 22:41, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
Alright. Give me some time, and I'll look into it. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 22:55, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Quick question - Whats the change that you've been trying? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 23:05, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

As you can see below, the change allows editors to add the number of each badge received to be displayed. It currently does not do this. If a the number is a 3 digit number, it simply displays "+" at this point. Technical 13 (talk) 23:21, 27 April 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Teahouse/Host-sandbox

  • Is the higher placement intentional? I thought it was a glitch for a very long time. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 23:54, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
I dont think it looks good. Mainly because it isnt clear that it is intentional. The same place will be a good idea. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 23:57, 27 April 2013 (UTC)
  • No, the difference in height is what I'm trying to get rid of. Technical 13 (talk) 00:00, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
Its obvious that difference happens only when a number or the + gets added to your main thing. Let me check why TheOriginalSoni (talk) 00:04, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
  • User:TheOriginalSoni/sandbox_4 clearly shows it is because of problems in your Wikipedia:Teahouse/Badge/Small-sandbox template, where the spacing gets auto-increased for the badges in which the characters are added. Appears to be an issue with the original designing. I'll still look for the problem, but being graphics, it might be above my ability. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 00:13, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
    • Ah-ha! I got it! I was setting the top position to -20px, but I wasn't doing anything to where the text was suppose to be created... So, by adding margin-bottom: -20px; I sucked up the whitespace created at the bottom. I'm sure it could be coded better by someone more proficient in css than I, and I can't test other browsers, so If you have another browser to test it with, that would be great. Technical 13 (talk) 01:04, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
      • Firefox, IE and Chrome approve the new design. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 01:06, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
We may not require a second digit for most cases, but two digits take too much of the space, and are a lot of problem in seeing it. Could the font size be slightly reduced for them? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 01:09, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
I agree and am already working on it. Technical 13 (talk) 01:12, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
There, what do you think of that? I got the number to link to the same place as the image as well. Not sure about the mouseover link text though, I wonder if there is any way to make them consistent... Technical 13 (talk) 01:18, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
Mouseover looks good. I suggest increasing the size of the double digits by about 20% to not make it look less important than single digits. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 01:21, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
You don't think the "Great Answer Badge" as opposed to the "Wikipedia:Teahouse/Badge/Answer" on the number is an issue? I decided to shrink the single digit font-size instead of increase the double digit. Right now, 2-9 use 16pt, 10-99 use 12pt, and + uses 18pt. Technical 13 (talk) 01:31, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

I've notified all of the people on the list above as well as Jtmorgan who let me know on Heather's page to check with him before implementing any live badge changes due to Host bots data collection on the use of these badges. I'm calling it a night and going to bed. I'll be excited to see all of the wonderful comments about it in the morning. ;) Technical 13 (talk) 01:39, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

I've changed the font sizes a little bit. It looks fine to me now. And I encountered no linking problems.
Also, do you prefer kepping all those talkbacks in your talk page? If so, I can send you a dozen more; if you'd want. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 01:41, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
Your font size changes look fine to me. Also, yes, I keep talkbacks on my talk page, punk... As you can see, I've just grouped them all up with signature/date stamps under one tb template. :p Now, good night! Technical 13 (talk) 01:48, 28 April 2013 (UTC)

Bad AIV reports

Thank you for making a report on Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, it appears that the editor you reported may not have engaged in vandalism, or the user was not sufficiently or appropriately warned. Please note there is a difference between vandalism and unhelpful or misguided edits made in good faith. If the user continues to vandalise after a recent final warning, please re-report it. Thank you. Alexf(talk) 17:46, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Note: Specifically you have made a couple of vandalism reports for users that have not vandalized in days and in one case had no warnings. Please read the instructions at the top of the AIV page. Thank you for your attention. -- Alexf(talk) 17:48, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Hello,
I wanted to first apologize for the badly made reports. I was checking out WP:Snuggle and reporting through its user interface.
Also, I was under the impression that sufficient bad-faith Vandalism (Such as the likes of most of which I reported) was enough to report the user for blocking. Is this not so? Or is a warning necessary before one can report them.
Very sorry for any misunderstanding and for the extra problems I caused due to any inaccurate reporting.
Thanks,
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 17:53, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Also, how long is it after a user's edits before their vandalism will be considered "old", and I will be asked to re=report after next vandalism? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 17:59, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Read the instructions at the AIV page:
  1. The edits of the reported user must be obvious vandalism or obvious spam.
  2. The user must have been given enough warnings to stop their disruptive behavior.
  3. The warnings must have been given recently and the users must be active now, especially for unregistered users.
  4. Requests for further sanctions against a blocked user (e.g., talk page, e-mail blocks) should go to AN/I, as a bot automatically removes accounts here that are blocked.
Users need at least a level 3 or 4 warning, one that specifically says they will be blocked. In special cases, of egregious vandalism, we can block with less or no warnings but that is rare. IP vandalism has to be no more than a few minutes old, as users may be different. On named accounts (one user), has to be done today, preferably very recently, and certainly after the last lv3 or lv4 warning. Please read the AIV Guide for more details. -- Alexf(talk) 18:02, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. And once again, Sorry for any trouble I may have caused.
Also, can I know what is egregious vandalism? I would consider some of what I reported to be so, but am not sure what you would do. A diff showing such vandalism could be helpful
Thanks,
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 18:05, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Just what you would think, racism, anti-semitism, homophobia, serious BLP issues and the like. -- Alexf(talk) 18:08, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Not what I was thinking [Did not encounter these yet] but got it. Thanks! TheOriginalSoni (talk) 18:09, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Soni, if you are interested, might I suggest signing up for the WP:CVUA academy hosted by Nerdfighter (talk · contribs)? I'm currently doing it myself, and it has helped me understand the differences you were asking about here above. If you are interested, simply leave him a request on his talk page and I'm pretty sure he would be happy to hook you up. Tell him I sent you if you like. I'm going to offer to be his assistant for the program once I've completed it. Happy editing! Technical 13 (talk) 18:13, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

I don't use Snuggle and haven't tried it. Isn't that one of the programs that needs to be installed locally? I don't currently have internet on my main machine at home, and use my laptop/university computers atm (laptop can't handle much more "stuff" at this point) which is why I'm shying away from those applications at the moment. Technical 13 (talk) 18:27, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Thats huggle. Snuggle is an online interface, currently in development and testing. Useful stuff for tracking newcomers, and currently in testing mode. You may want to try it, and tell us what can be done. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 19:17, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Oh, okay, I'll do that sometime (probably later tonight after supper or tomorrow) and let you know what I think. Happy editing. Technical 13 (talk) 19:32, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

RFC

About this: Editors expect to find a question or summary at the top of an RFC. The bot copies whatever text is in between the {{rfc}} template and the first date stamp into the listings. You will get more responses if your turn your text into a useful question. WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:28, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Got it. Thanks. (Didnt know about it)
Do I re-add the rfc, or just change the summary? TheOriginalSoni (talk) 21:34, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Just change the summary. The bot usually runs every 15 minutes. WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:41, 29 April 2013 (UTC)
Done. thanks for informing TheOriginalSoni (talk) 21:46, 29 April 2013 (UTC)

Please be aware that according to WP:BRD, after someone makes a Bold edit, which is Reverted by another editor, the next step is Discussion. While discussion is ongoing, the article stays in the original state, the Bold edit is not to be restored to the article. Given this, I have restored the article to the status quo ante, please do not restore the Bold edit. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:12, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

The bold edit was yours, and not the TAFIs. We have linked you the community wide RFC. You choose not to read it. Please note you may be close to violating 3RR. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 05:13, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
No, the Bold edit was the one that changed the state of the article. Beyond My Ken (talk) 05:15, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
That is incorrect. The template was implemented AFTER an overwhelming discussion and a lot of consensus. You do not choose when consensus occurs and when it does not. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 05:21, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Discussion at TAFI talk

There's a discussion occurring that you may be interested in, since you've been replacing the TAFI template that has been removed from articles. See Wikipedia talk:Today's articles for improvement, section "Bot was reverted earlier today on run, so {{TAFI}} tags are not on articles". Northamerica1000(talk) 05:16, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Seen it. Will be commenting on it soon. First I need to revert a few edits. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 05:20, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, we would ask that you assume good faith while interacting with other editors, which you did not on WP:AIAV. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Alex2564 (talk) 06:08, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Elephant

Good idea. As a TFA delegate I have scheduled it at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 5, 2013. BencherliteTalk 20:50, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Thank you. I'll ping you directly if I find further Vital FAs which can be added. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 21:03, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
Currently there are 3 Star Trek movies as FA but not TFA. It could be interesting if we had one of them as our TFA in the run up to the release of the new Star Trek Movie [May 15th to 17th]. TheOriginalSoni (talk) 21:11, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
