Kentucky County ratings[edit]

Are you ranking all Kentucky counties as Mid importance? I considered that idea myself, and if you're good with it, I'll help you get it done. What about cities? I was thinking all county seats might automatically merit Mid importance as well. Your thoughts? Acdixon 17:22, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We should probably create a list of "close to good" articles on the project page. I noticed Wilderness Road looking very good, but someone would have to update it with inline citation. Looks like you're starting from the beginning of the alphabet. As I get time, I've been going from the end. Keep a list of "close to good" articles, and when we finish (or get close to finishing), we'll post the list on the project page. Hopefully, with Stevietheman back, we can get the project page active again. Acdixon 19:55, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a "Close to Good" section in our Hall of Fame with a short explanation of what should be posted there. Feel free to edit my explanation at will. Acdixon 20:19, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FYI, I finished adding class and importance to all the Kentucky counties today. Acdixon 20:02, 10 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other questions[edit]

Not sure. Would probably depend on the character. Which particular character did you have in mind? Acdixon 20:27, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why not? A X-Men character's background usually plays a big part in his or her personality (ex. Gambit or Nightcrawler), so this particular character (with whom I am not actually familiar) might be a good choice to push toward GA. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't some stereotypical redneck bumpkin character.
On those same lines, I was just adding Fruit of the Loom (based in Bowling Green) to the project and noticed a discussion to merge with Fruit of the Loom Guys. Currently, the consensus seems to be to keep separate articles. Does that mean we should add the Fruit Guys to the project? Acdixon 20:37, 8 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good articles[edit]

To get an article promoted to Good article standing, follow the procedure listed under "How to nominate a page" here. The problem with the Bunning article, and several others in our "Close to good" list is that they lack in-text citation. I would have already nominated Morgan's Raid and Wilderness Road were it not for this requirement. It is nearly impossible to go back and add those cites later unless A) you are the primary author of the article or B) you have a whole lot of time on your hands to get the references listed at the bottom and cite appropriately. Acdixon 20:50, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't rescind just yet. We could get some good feedback from the review anyway. Plus, I think there is a section for Good articles lacking citation. Acdixon 20:55, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I've been a bit lax in helping lately. I really put a lot into that William Goebel article. I think it's probably just a few images away from being featured. Unfortunately, I live too far from Frankfort to drive up there and get a picture of the Old State Capitol, statue of Goebel, etc. that would put it over the top. Acdixon 21:01, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A quick glance at the Carpenter article suggested it might get through, although I learned the hard way that IMDb isn't the most well-liked source for references. Turns out it's user-edited just like Wikipedia, so we may get knocked on that. I'm going to have some dead time on a business trip starting tomorrow night, so maybe I can lend a hand then. Thanks for your tireless work! Here's to more good and featured articles for our WikiProject! Acdixon 21:07, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Caught ya![edit]

Looks like we finally met in the middle on getting these articles rated. I left the lists and a couple of other articles because I wasn't sure how to rate them. Acdixon 15:40, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if I don't know and you don't know, I guess we'd better ask Stevie since he's the only other one doing much right now. Maybe they have a policy over at WikiProject Louisville that we can... appropriate. LOL I'll ask. Acdixon 17:32, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I just dropped a note on Stevie's talk page. I asked him to copy you with his response, as I'm about to embark on an 8-hour drive for a business trip to Mansfield, Ohio about half an hour from now. Let me know how it turns out. If all goes well, I'm going to utilize the hotel's wireless Internet to do some more editing tonight when I arrive. I'm such a dork! LOL
P.S. I'm all for bringing the lists to FL status. Some of them shouldn't be too tough. Maybe we'll pick them off one by one when we finish our redesign for the project page. Acdixon 17:41, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We have no policy per se, but I have tended to treat lists like regular articles for the sake of assessment. If it's a list stub, then it's a Stub. Otherwise, it's a Start. I'm not sure what a 'B' or better list article would look like. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 17:45, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey -- I was in the process of failing this article as a good article candidate, when you promoted it. I've gone ahead and failed it. I hope you don't mind me undoing your decision, it's nothing personal. I feel that by failing it, the criticisms I have (some of which are quite problematic) are more likely to be addressed than if the article is given GA status. If you would rather, I can reinstate your judgement of it as a GA, but then I'll list it for removal of that status (again, to encourage improvement)... so it may make more sense this way. Just let me know which way you want to go. Mangojuicetalk 18:26, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, we can do it that way then. I can't quibble with your evaluation, I'm a tough critic. :) Mangojuicetalk 21:06, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've looked over the article you wrote on the 1st Kentucky Artillery. The prose is clearly good; I made a few minor technical changes that I think will prove helpful. It's clearly a B-class article at least. My main concern would be the lack of transition material. For example, how did the unit come to be at Missionary Ridge from assisting Forrest at Chickamauga. Perhaps this is common knowledge for Civil War buffs, but I found that it made the article a little choppy. Just a little background and perhaps some aftermath on each battle would go a long way in improving the article. That being said, a peer review or GA nom might prove that this isn't as big an issue as I'm making it. There's my opinion, fwiw. Acdixon 21:39, 3 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:Mangojuice reversed your decision of promoting the article to GA. He wrote it was based on consensus, but he was the only person involved in the decision. I hope you can get involved again. He wants to make changes such as adding that Albert Fish was the influence for Hannibal Lecter, even though there is no evidence. --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 04:59, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:Jody_Richards.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Jody_Richards.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 03:58, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:David_l._williams.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy.
