Welcome Sliss[edit]

Hi there Sliss. Welcome to Wikipedia, its always good to see new users. When you get a chance, drop us a note at Wikipedia:New user log to introduce yourself! You might also like to put a short introduction on your user page so that other wikipedians can get to know you.

You can sign your name on talk pages by using " ~~~ " for your username and " ~~~~ " for your username and a timestamp.. Signing your name is important on talk pages because it helps people get in touch with you. Also remember to indent each of your comments using : so that other users can follow the flow of discussions

As well as editing wikipedia you could also think about taking part in many other essential activities that make wikipedia a friendly place. For example you could welcome new users to wikipedia or you could try mediating discussions between other users. There are loads of other options at the Wikipedia:Community Portal.
Some links to get you started in the community:
  • The new users Welcome page is a good place to start.
  • Wikipedia:Help has a broad range of general help topics you may find useful.

If you have any questions or just want to chat then leave a message on my talk page and I'll answer as soon as possible. Happy editing, Killfest2Daniel.Bryant

Fred Thompson postcard[edit]

Hi, Sliss. There is a chance that the postcard is in the public domain. Do you know when the picture was published? If it was before 1923, it is definitely in the public domain. If it was between 1923 and 1964, it is in the public domain if its copyright was not renewed. However, I do not know how you would go about finding out if it was renewed or not. It may be infeasible. As for the usage qualifying under fair use, I do not know. I suggest asking at Wikipedia talk:Copyright problems or Wikipedia:Village pump (assistance).

Some people who answer may not know what they are talking about (I am not very knowledgeable about copyright, either. My experience is mostly with finding copyright violations and reporting them.), so you may have to wait awhile before you get a good, correct answer. People giving incorrect advice on copyright issues is a perennial problem. I suggest that you investigate the experience that those who answer have on Wikipedia and with copyright issues. You can see their contributions by going to their user pages and clicking on "user contributions", which is in the toolbox on the left side. Also, if they deal with copyrights a lot, they may have conversations about it on their talk pages.

Unfortunately, I am currently unable to help people much because my time at Wikipedia is very limited and erratic. It may be several days or more before I come back or I may be here for a couple of hours tomorrow. I never know for sure. If you do not get an answer at the pages above, you could try looking for someone who seems to know what they are talking about on the Wikipedia:Copyright problems page. Talk to you later, Kjkolb 02:42, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

Greetings. Thanks for contacting me. I have added licensing information to the images, so there now shouldn't be a problem now.

Do you have the original postcards? If so, are you absolutely certain that there is no copyright statement on the postcards? If there is no copyright statement, then the images are in the public domain. (This only applies to images published before 1977.) Just let me know. – Quadell (talk) (random) 12:14, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Roosevelt Fairbanks 1904 jugate.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Roosevelt Fairbanks 1904 jugate.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:09, 13 May 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 22:09, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
