Great white shark talk box[edit]
The real project for sharks is Wikipedia:WikiProject Sharks so the talk templates on shark pages for this project are the ones to look at. The other template is for Wikipedia:WikiProject Shark which is to be deleted soon, as it is a 'project' run by one user. We have had problems with this user and hopefully these templates should soon be removed, leaving only those for WikiProject:Sharks. Sorry for any confusion. chris_huh 16:58, 6 September 2006 (UTC)
steve irwin simple language[edit]
thank you for dedicating your time to expanding the simple english version of Steve irwin. I'm new to the simple language as well, so your not the only one. Remember that the language is intended for people who don't speak english fluently so make sure that text is easy and simple to read. I'm about to look at the article now to see how it's doing and once again thanks for spending time to improve not just the english language but the simple language as well. Fair use[edit]
Hi. For an unfree image to be used on wikipedia it must meet several criteria for fair use, see WP:FUC. While including an unfree image of the nobel prize on the prize page is fair, adding it to every winners page is not a fair use since it doens't really illustrate anything about the person. Anousheh Ansari[edit]
Hi Siobhan, I am in fact connected directly to Anousheh Ansari. In regards the the biographical content on her Wikipedia page, we've had some trouble posting--I wrote her biography for her personal site, which we then sent to the X-Prize Foundation's website as Mrs. Ansari is a member of their Board of Trustees. We then posted sections of this text on Wikipedia, but were told they it was in violation of copyright since it appeared on the X-Prize site.
Can I somehow provide the authorization, or connect you with someone from X-Prize, to update Anousheh's Wikipedia entry per her specifications? Please let me know the best way to proceed.

Hi Guinnog you seem to be online, so I thought this might be the fastest place to get attention. I see you blocked the above user for 48 hours for vandalism on 2006-09-16. Unfortunately they're back and right back to their old behavior. See their latest edit to Natascha Kampusch[1]. "Dahneel" is the name the vandal inserted into previous articles. Do we have to go through all the warnings again before the user is blocked, or can you just shut them down straight away? Welcome to project sharks[edit]
Hi! (again) Any help in updating the shark articles is very welcome, no need to be an expert! I you want to know more about sharks and shark attacks, read the articles, both quite good now and they will hopefully lessen your fear. In my opinion the GWS page is not very good, so please start updating, for other things to do look at the project page, the collaboration now is tiger shark and we are trying to get whale shark to GA (see talk page for things to update), as for the best page so far look at oceanic whitetiped shark which recently was promoted to FA! The addition is being reviewed by the author of the book, and will be up by the end of the day.
I'm not 100% sure that this is where my reply should go, but that suggestion, copying the sites and then linking to the DMOZ site, is an excellent one, if it'd make the list more easily accessible and acceptable for Wikipedia's purposes. Thank you, and sorry for any trouble!
Hi there, I noticed you've been removing links on the 'Baby Shower' section because they are deem "commercial" & "unencyclopedic". Just want to clarify with you here that some of the links are actually to fully featured guide on baby shower planning.
As a shower planner myself I know that baby shower planning is a big topic on it's own, which usually entails weeks of careful planning and work. So it's just impossible to add more than a general desciption on Wikipedia; much more specific information is required. IMO, the links to external sites are the best we can do to provide more valuable information to researchers using Wikipedia.
I've since removed all genuinely "commercial" links on the page and left 2 which I find are truly relevant and of value to the topic. I hope u will reconsider and leave them intact. Because by removing them we will be limiting Wikipedia users to better resources elsewhere.

- Hi. It would be helpful if you would post messages to me on my talk page, not in my archive, as I don't get the same obvious flag from the system for new messages posted on the archive page.
- In response to your message - I had posted about my reasons for removing on the article talk page. I'd prefer to continue the conversation there since this is something any editor of the article might be interested in. I will copy this comment there and any others you leave for me about this (unless you tell me not ot). I'll also post on the talk page for your IP address in the hope it is a static one.
- I don't find your arguments very persuasive. For a start the purpose of an encyclopedia article on baby showers should be about the social and historical context of the phenomenon. Not about how to plan one (see What Wikipedia is not). There is no problem with readers finding better baby shower resources on other sites. If someone wants to plan a baby shower or other event, off-line they'd reach for a how-to book, not an encyclopedia. If a reader wants to research what baby showers are - how they have impacted lives in general, what social, religious and economic factors have shaped them and other encyclopedic matters, then Wikipedia should be trying to ensure we have the best possible resources for them. I don't think these links fit.
- The links are to poor quality content from an encyclopedic perspective. They're not particularly well written; they're not particularly authoritative (no one "quotes" them in research), or popular (Alexa rankings put them both in the million+); the content is trivial (in that there are many places similar content can be found, and lots of people could write similar content) and can be found through a simple search on any search engine; and, most importantly, the quality of the information is not verified - the sites are not written by acknowledged leaders in the field, and there is no peer review or other process to ensure facts are correct.
- You say you've deleted the genuinely commercial sites, as though these two are not. But the sites you linked to are also blatantly commercial. With one site you link not to the content that expands (if poorly) on baby showers, but to a blurb introduction whose only purpose appears to highlight moor google ads. On this same site, the "About" page even has a nice little button to press so anyone can learn how to "generate revenue from your site with google adsense" However, though commercial sites are discouraged in favor of non-commercial sites, it's not a reason for deleting if the site is otherwise a good link. But since I fail to see how these links add any encyclopedic value, the fact that they are commercial makes me very keen on seeing them deleted.
- While you've said you plan baby showers and think readers need more information on that than the article can provide, you haven't said how these links add encylopedic content to the article. Do you (or other editors) have other, encyclopedic, reasons for keeping the links? Or do you disagree with my idea of what is encyclopedic? Thanks --Siobhan Hansa 18:08, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

It doesn't matter if you see a few that I've already done, because you can double check that I didn't miss anything. Thanks for the advice, it's all new to me though, what does semi-protected mean exactly? I see that I now no longer have changes to the article appear in my watchlist - is that it? Is it a permanent thing? Have never 3rr-ed before!
I didn't want to keep reverting, actually I was waiting for people to come and help me and didn't see the point of debating with someone who was totally intransigent as user 80.141 etc was. As you can probably see, I do have strong opinions about the way this article was written previously - it was basically a hagiography when the real story is much more complex. Removal of External Link[edit]
Hi SiobhanHansa: I apologize if I've added an inappropriate site to the marriage page (hitchedmag.com), but I do feel that it is appropriate. You took it down saying it was commercial, but there's not a single advertisement on the website, all the content is free and acreddited experts contribute columns on a weekly basis. The site promotes marriage and offers ideas to keep the marriage spark alive. It also interviews real married couples who share their stories of hardship and successes. I would say that this site may be more relevant than any of the other sites, except maybe Rutgers (which I think is great and should not be taken down, by the way) because hitchedmag.com is a proactive resource where couples can get answers, discover new ideas and find inspiration. I hope you agree and put the link back up.

Exotic India[edit]
With regard to your questions about Seemagoel and exoticindiaarts, I don't know exactly what the relationship is between Seema and the website, but I did receive an e-mail from an e-mail @exoticindiaarts.com signed by Nitin Kumar, the author of some of the pieces of writing in question, stating that Seema Goel is authorised to release text under the GFDL. I get the impression that she is an employee of the website.
As for the quality of the text, I agree that a commercial website does not constitute a reliable source by itself. However, looking over what Seemagoel has added, the text appears to be of fairly high quality, and, while it is unsourced, the same is, as you observed, true of most of the articles in general. So, I think that Wikipedia benefits from including it, although it might require a {{fact}} tag in places. On the question of the links Seema is adding, I note that I requested on her talk page last year, "If you are the owner of the site in question, it is considered inappropriate to use Wikipedia for the purpose of creating links to it. Also, please do not add links to commerical pages, i.e. those that are selling something." However, I don't recall discussing this further in my e-mail correspondence with her or other people from that site.—Nat Krause(Talk!) 15:25, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I created the article because there wasn't already one on him and when researching I found that his first exhibition entry was when he was aged just 8, which I thought quite remarkable. He gets 9,500 or so Google hits - I reckon he's kind of well known, but if you don't think he's notable then please do nominate the article for deletion (I think in view of the number of hits and his early success he's more notable than many artists, so I personally feel it should be AfD rather than Prod, but that's just my opinion - I won't kick up a fuss if you think it should be proded), and if consensus is that it should go, then sure - I'm a big fan of consensus here. Wellesley College alumnae[edit]

Thanks for your suggestion regarding duplicating categories for Wellesley College alumn{i,ae}
If I were to gain some form of consensus from other users, I would think the action that would be taken with consensus would be to a) create a new category with the preferred name b) revise all articles pointing to the less preferred name to point to both categories for a short amount of time, say one week C) put entries on talk pages and front pages for both categories indicating why the duplication is present and when the old category will become a redirect d) after that time interval, decategorize the articles pointing to the deprecated category, leaving only the preferred category e) make the deprecated category be a redirect to the real category
is there a better way than this method?

FASC[edit]
I notice you have been systematically removing all the recently added links to the FASC (Fame Academy Supporters Club) [7] website from articles on former Fame Academy contestants.
In my view these should not be regarded as spam. This is a long established website; it is the leading UK information site on the whole of the Fame Academy Series, and is highly regarded by UK Fame Academy fans. Although it is a fan site and includes a message board, it also contains a large amount of comprehensive and accurate archived and current information about the series and subsequent careers of all the former contestants. Unfortunately this information is no longer available from the BBC Official Fame Academy homepage as this now only covers Comic Relief does Fame Academy. Jud 02:24, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Advanced-Planning.eu and inventory-management.de are very helpfull external links maintained by a university professor for his students. These are helpfull external links closely related to all issues of supply chain management. You should not remove the links.
Tunbridge Wells (borough)[edit]
Removal of external link to a blog www.disgusted.tw. I'm confused as to why it has been removed and I would like to discuss having it added back. It is on topic for the page in question "Tunbridge Wells Borough" and has important information about living in Tunbridge Wells and the Borough. You have cited it is by a non-notable expert... I'm not sure how one becomes a 'notable expert' or what defines one. The blog in question has been refered to by the BBC, local radio and local newspapers and they had no problem with its contents or status. Those living in the Borough count on this page too and as such should be able to have links here - the wiki is a living encyclopedia?
- Hi, thanks for leaving a message for me. I do make mistakes, so it's quite possible I was not thorough enough when I looked at the link. In any case, I'm only one editor just like you. The relevent guideline for externa links is WP:EL - blogs are not generally considered appropriate. Exception might be made for, say, a blog by Stephen Hawkins on a Black Hole article. Still, I suggest posting the link to the talk page with evidence that it is "notable" (i.e. links to mention by the BBC and such). If most editors agree that it's a good external link then I certainly wouldn't edit against that consensus. Re: Spammer you blocked is back[edit]
Hi (aeropagitica). You blocked 24.165.95.36 (talk • contribs • WHOIS • block user • block log) on 2006-10-27 for spamming. Well they're back and just added the same link to the same article.[8] I know this is an IP address, but since it's a direct allocation, and its only edits appear to have been to add external links, I was wondering if you would think about blocking them for a little longer. Removing external links[edit]
Removing ALL external links from Depersonalization is a dis-service to many people who are seeking more information on the subject.
Most external links provided further educational information such as treatments, in-depth diagnosis information, aticles, and resources for those who suffer from Depersonalization.
The removal was irresponsible, and has made the page on Wikipedia less informative and less useful.
- Hi, I realize a lot of people want more information. And it's quite possible I made a mistake when with some of the links - though I tried to be thorough when I went through them. As far as I could tell none of the links were to reliable sources. We're an encyclopedia, not a forum, a self help manual, or simply a collection of links. We present verified knowledge that represents the significant points of view of experts in the field, not every experience anyone has had about a subject. So linking to sites without any sort of medical or academic provenance on an article about a condition like this can be irresponsible. Wikipedia's external links guidelines is quite clear that external links need to add encyclopedic value and should meet the same level of reliability we expect from our sources. If people want to find articles that are not of an encyclopedic quality they are quite able to use google to do so. A few external links to sites that meet the reliable sources policy would make a great addition to the article. If you disagree that the links fail our guidelines, please let me know which links you think meet our standards and why. Your removals of links to www.idea.int[edit]
I apologize, I was unaware that site owners or representatives should not create external links to their own websites (though this of course generally is a good rule). I do think the link itself qualifies though. International IDEA is a NGO with 24 member states working on research on and promotion of different aspects of democracy, gender, electoral processes etc., and the actual link pointed to a page summarizing the institute's up to date info on the country at hand. It was not my intention to break any rules of Wikipedia and in the future I will suggest my link to be added on the discussion page instead of adding it myself. artist's own entry[edit]

External Link about Auto Recycling[edit]
Hi siobhan, Why did you remove the "auto recycling" link from the Car Donation page. It was a great, very relevant article about "Where Old Cars go" with information you can not find anyplace in Wikipedia?--mp 16:40, 1 November 2006 (UTC)
I understand you are concerned about the source of the article. The figures have been taken from a magazine published by Geico Car Insurance (Please click on the external link and see the left side). Unfortunately, Geico did not post the information on their web site, www.geico.com
When people call our charity to donate their car, they very often ask: What will you do with my old car? Or they will say: My car is not running. Can it still beneficial to your charity?
I could rename the external link to: "What charities do with cars that are not running" if that will help. I honestly believe that people who will read the car donation article in WIkipedia will find this link very informative and relevant.
I could ask the web designer to take out any information in the page you feel is soliciting too strongly for car donations.

CTRL, ALT, DELETE[edit]
hi siobhan, thanks for referring this to art specific editors. my biggest concern was having to try and justify myself in terms of importance (by modifying the entry to contend with an editor's assertion of my work as "exceedingly minor") when that wasn't at all my intention in making the entry in the first place. i am an emerging artist and make no bones about my career being exceedingly minor at this stage. i was a little disappointed that the wikipedia process forced me down the path of commodifying myself. but that's essentially the problem of making a wiki entry on yourself, and i shouldn't have even tried. but live and learn. i would rather the entry comes down until someone else puts one up there, if ever. and i'll scour the web for other ways to link to my website. in the meantime, i'd be delighted to make a few wiki posts on the art scene that i am in touch with. can you point me to a set of wikipedia's ground rules on expanding the vaults? thanks, Richardmosse 18:11, 1 November 2006 (UTC)richardmosse

Asset_Protection External Links[edit]
Hello, I just received a message from you that you removed those two links I added to Asset Protection. Both links are to websites that are extremely helpful, written by experts in the field, and are non-commercial. I am not sure if I am writing this in the "correct" place. I am just learning the Wiki interface here and, believe me, it is not entirely intuitive.
I appreciate your taking the time to help me edit the pages pertaining to social entrepreneurship and Bill Drayton. Bill was extremely disappointed in what information was out there before and I am doing my best to better explain. I expect that I will be continuing to try to rewrite these pages to more accurately reflect who we (Bill, Ashoka, and the leading social entrepreneurs) are and what we mean by these concepts.
I am not sure exactly what changes you made or did not make -- so it is difficult to indicate whether I agree or disagree. I will do my best to comply with your Manual of Style.

ATP Links[edit]
The links I added explained more about the cleanroom industry and how cleanrooms are used. We provide general cleanroom information as well as sell the products. Cleanroom products are bought based on specifications rather than advertising. Advertising is a bit pointless in this business. The Wikipedia cleanroom and static control articles are a bit sparce so I was trying to expand on them. There is no really site that isnt commerical that gives detailed useful information on cleanrooms and static control except maybe the societys, but they are funded by industry so... *shrug* 83.141.103.162

Wikipedia gives no really indication about how each product is designed for this sort of environment. Nor a really understanding of the materials. According to Wikipedia, a 'sockpuppet' occurs when another user account created secretly by an existing wikipedian, generally to manufacture the illusion of support in a vote or argument. Reverting link to Letterpress Printing[edit]
Hello Siobhan,
Forgive me if I'm not writing in the right place or not following proper etiquette in some way. This is my first time using Talk. I am the person who added the external links to the Fine Press Book Association and Codex Foundation yesterday, and I see you have removed the latter.
As a letterpress printer myself I put these up as a possibly useful resource for others interested in letterpress who might want to attend the conferences these associations organize, as they are excellent places to learn about letterpress printing in person. I thought it would also be useful to point to one in the UK and one in the US. (There may be more in other countries, but these are the ones I have either attended personally or know of firsthand through the network of letterpress printers.)
I have read through the guidelines for posting external links and am not sure where I went wrong in posting the Codex Foundation. It is, I admit, a relatively new organization. However, its mission is very similar to the FPBA's, and its fair is equal in scope (and some of FPBA's members will be exhibiting there). It is not about selling books but about education and keeping the book arts, especially letterpress, alive.
So those were my reasons for putting up the link. On the other hand, I'm sure you had a good reason for reverting it, and as a newbie I would be grateful if you could let me know why, so that I can avoid making a similar error in future.

Hello, Recently I posted a nummber of “external links”, maybe ten or so, under various themes. All seem to have been removed. I am not certain why. Of course it is presumed that nothing is meliciously done and that I have not follwed the rules. I can presume that it looks like I am “spamming” in some way. I can only say that I feel I am not. The only clue I have gotten so far is that in one edit note it says that I was marketing a book. This is ture but I am at a loss as so many other links that are up market books, DVD’s and even ask for funds. Mine is rather discrete and all the links are to ligitamate organizations or to sustiaining or croberating material. The underlying theme is a pychological one and I see it as far reaching and thus the many posts trying to link many subjects. I am affileated with at least three of the grups that have links posted. Here I include a few of the posts you edited and a few comments. So, could you please give me some guidence as to what I can do? (Believe me this is no way to sell books. Though the Rajkumar Kanagasingam was posted by me to the wikipedia originally but wrongly as a newbie (and still feel so), it was actually created by Wackymacs[9] and subsequently shaped by others [10], [11], [12], [13] and [14].
After they all have given notability for Rajkumar Kanagasingam only, I started to shape the Rajkumar Kanagasingam.
The Daily News of Sri Lanka [15] is a Sri Lanka's National Newspaper since 1918 and the widest read newspaper in Sri Lanka and overseas.
Rajkumar Kanagasingam has published articles over the years and the following articles [16], [17], [18] and [19] are available online since 2002.
Though the articles have been written by the subject Rajkumar Kanagasingam, the facts he has mentioned in those articles might have well accepted by the populace without any complaint before he published the next article over the years and might have established some credibility within the Editorial circle as well.
I wonder why those articles can't be considered as Reference for Rajkumar Kanagasingam.
The Press Release in Daily News [20] could speak for Rajkumar Kanagasingam's association with leading Sri Lankan and international personalities and adding notability for Rajkumar Kanagasingam.
The US State Department's Office of Weapons Removal and Abatements "Safe Passage" Newsletter carried a news[21] on "Night of A Thousand Dinners" which was organised jointly by Asian-German Sports Exchange Program and PDIP, A Think Tank which was founded by Rajkumar Kanagasingam.
As the PDIP's Secretary-General, his activities in the available publications (on-line) will speak for his achievements.
All of his above attempts are substantial enough for a fair testimony for his notability among Sri Lankans and gives weight of his book German Memories in Asia which is about-to-be-released.
Ezine Articles may be "Vanity Press" but the contents in most of the articles by Rajkumar Kanagasingam are falling in the lines of well-researched and well-documented articles than those of mere Search Engine Optimization (SEO) ones.
After all his Ezine Articles are linking to his Book/Author Info. Page in AGSEP[22], which is an NGO and not to his personal or affiliated sites with ulterior motives of Ad Sense and click-gimmicks. As an author he is trying his fair attempt for his book without any hidden baits.
Some of the linkings might be Link Farms as I am a newbie of mere three months, but you should consider few of the internationally prominent people I have so far created and those have been left out in the wikipedia so far, especially Dr. Gamani Corea and others.
I have spent lot of my time to keep Dominic Jeeva from deletion with rest of my creations Arumaipperumal and Pandara Vannian which are not falling into the Link Farms.
The Internet is introduced after the mid nineties and still most of the news items are not falling into the web-world. By expecting reference for testing a person's notability with on-line reference materials might be some times misleading where the particular persons' references are mostly in off-line media archives.
Internet is mostly weighing a person's prominence based on the Internet availability in English and few other languages and not in all other world or local languages.
I don't have any objections if suitable and appropriate deleting Rajkumar Kanagasingam from wikipedia, but my kind expectation is at least wikipedia should attempt to have a survey among Sri Lankans through its available means whether Rajkumar Kanagasingam is prominent enough or not among Sri Lankans.

I noted your points carefully and like to brief myself for your kind concern.
As I stated already I never thought of entering into wikipedia but it happened its way.
That is the way I received a Peace Award in 1989 from Srichinmoy, the head of the Peace Meditations at the UN Headquarters, New York on his visit to Sri Lanka for my initiative on a Peace Mission around the world, but it never happened for various reasons.
But the Peace Award changed my world view and made me popular in the island by featuring in various media.
As the recipient of the award and my links with the UN Association of Sri Lanka, I involved in indirect politics and peace initiatives for a lasting solution in the Island.
Other than my above peace attempts I did my Business Administration and a graduate-level course on international affairs and started to lecture on Business Administration and Economics.
At times I combined my lecturing and UN Association links for various charitable purposes.
I founded the PDIP, A Think Tank and spent a lot my time, effort and my own money for various awareness programs on landmine and economic issues.
I did a marathon speech on "world economies" for nearly 20 hours in a day and that gave me a chance to be interviewed and featured in a weekly English newspaper and subsequently gave me a chance to be a Business Reporter for that newspaper for some time and to interview some of the top personalities in the island and overseas and eventually made me a columnist on various issues in the Sri Lanka's leading newspaper, Daily News.
I did a speech in India on "Re-building the Indian Economy beyond natural disasters" to raise fund for Gujarat earth quake victims in 2001 and gave me some popularity among Indians by featuring in the Indian media like "THE HINDU" and other.
My speeches on "Changing Role of the US Economy in the Year 2000 and beyond" and "Globalization and Future Role of the Sri Lanka Trade and Industry" are chaired by Dr. James W. Spain, a former US Ambassador for Sri Lanka and the UN and Dr. Gamani Corea, a former Secretary-General of UNCTAD gave some more prominence.
I did many things by some hidden urge which eventually made me popular among the LTTE and the Government circles and helped a lot in the tsunami time in coordinating things between the Government, LTTE and the NGOs on relief assistance towards the tsunami victims.
I have evidence for all what I did and said above in off-line media archives which are written by others and me and appeared in English and the local languages Sinhala and Tamil, but wonder how I could furnish to wikipedia.
Still I don't know whether I am eligible for the popularity which I gained but things works its way and made me to author the book "German Memories in Asia" which is well documented all what I did and said above and more about the world from the pre-historical times.

Hi,
I appreciate your viligence in keeping spam off the restaurant ratings page, but my last edit was not intended as spam. I think that not mentioning any web resources in the restaurant guides section is a glaring omission that should be corrected. I only used Restaurantdb as an example because it is the site I use, and because there is a wiki page for them (I believe internal links are preferrable to external ones?). Would it be acceptable if we added several links? E.g. in addition to restaurantdb, also chefmoz, restaurants.com, citysearch, chowbaby, etc. etc.?
By the way, in my opinion the statement that newspaper reviewers typically return to a restaurant many times to sample the whole menu is a gross exaggeration at best. Only a very few (e.g. New York Times), if any, newspapers have the capability or the inclination to do this. Also, the next statement that newspapers have the best insight into an area's restaurants, pronounced with the certainty of a logical inference (with the "Therefore...") is also a misleading exaggeration. Again, only very large and rich newspapers in affluent areas have the capability or the interest in hiring competent reviewers and covering a large number of restaurants. And in those kinds of places, there will be other resources available (e.g. Zagat's or other specialized guides). My experience with newspaper restaurant guides in small to medium cities has been extremely poor. Just another reason that web resources should be included on this page.
Anyway, I don't know if you wrote that content but you seem to be responsible for the content now. That's my 2 cents.

Thank you for your answer, which is a fair one in the main. But it would seem (from books, from asking a few widow(er)s, from chatting to a bereavement counsellor) that many people consider that they are still 'married', and in particular bound by the marriage vow of fidelity, for some time after the death of their partner. Feelings of missing the (inconvenience of) a ring are wholly secondary I suggest. The writer went on to say that she thought my site, comparing the City as I had experienced it in the 1960s, with today, would be of enormous interest to people. The "Flirting" article and "kino"[edit]
The seduction community has a term, kino (derived from kinesthetics), for precisely this sort of casual touch. An example would be a woman gently touching a man's arm during conversation.
So, there is a subculture in the world that has a good word for something. It's just like referencing a bit of hacker jargon in an article about operating systems, or a bit of CB lingo in an article about the trucking business. I do want to explain in the article that there is a certain type of touch that is meant here, and I like including the word "kino", one reason being that a curious reader can then type "kino" into a search engine and get relevant results.
I don't want to imply that the seduction community is the only authority on what kind of contact counts as flirting and what doesn't, and eventually I'd like to see several sources on the matter.

Jargon and sources[edit]
Well, the Manual of Style says to "explain jargon". Im pretty sure we're not supposed to write articles _in_ jargon, but I don't see any problem with saying "there's a subculture that has its own word, 'x', for this".
Now, I know that mentioning _only_ kino as an alternate term, in the only footnote in the "Notes" section, sticks out like a sore thumb. And I know there is a problem with there being more explanation of what "kino" is in the Flirting article than in the "Seduction community" article. But I'd rather leave it as is and allow other material to be added to balance it out.
The reason for singling out "casual touch" to footnote was that it is a very general term. And most of the other terms such as "eye contact" had good links to other articles; linking to the article on the sense of touch didn't do it for me. And I wasn't up to creating a new article on "kino" or "the use of touch in flirtation".
As far as original research, I don't see any problem with people sourcing ( with references ) terms from various subcultures in the article and comparing them, as long theyre not trying to advance a particular thesis. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Squidfryerchef (talk • contribs) 05:36, 13 December 2006 (UTC).

I noticed that in between my revision and yours, the "kino" footnote was moved into the "references" section. I originally put it in a separate "notes" section on purpose, to show that this was intended as an "extra" explanation and not something we were relying on to prove or disprove a point. Thousands of Tamils in London and from overseas paid their last respect to Anton Balasingham, their one time hope for peace in their home land and the LTTE’s theoretician and chief negotiator at Alexandra Palace in north London[24][25][26].
Balasingham’s casket was placed at the front of the Palace’s Great Hall was escorted in by an honour guard, white gloved and dressed in black suits. After a brief initial ceremony, where hundreds of Tamil activists around the world participated by placing flower petals on Balasingham’s body, followed by a long line of families with children, youth and older Tamils and distinguished personalities internationally.
While paying respects, many wept openly, others prayed and some lifted their young children so they also could place petals. Community organizations from across the world have sent representatives and they placed dozens of wreaths and bouquets alongside the casket. While one said ‘Voice of the Nation’, the title bestowed on the LTTE theoretician by the movement, another said ‘Uncle’, the title by which many LTTE cadres used to address him affectionately.
Thousands of people from far away places arrived in several coaches and flights from Switzerland, France, Canada, US, Australia, Norway and Germany were waiting outside the venue on a freezing cold day and the queue snaked back from the Great Hall.
Balasingham was cremated shortly afterwards at a private ceremony leaving the people for whom he was fighting for by his intellectual wisdom.

Hi Siobhan Hansa, I have no issues with inline references. However in the given case the reference did not make any sense (to me). The ref was meant to support a rather trivial claim: good design is good ... Additionally, the ref was not specific with respect to the claim -- you could basically take almost any academic IS article to support this claim. At first, please forgive my poor English.
I have checked out those wikisources for reliability to citing sources. I am sure those sources are stable and the same as the original content in textbook. Those sources I used in wikisource are all ancient contents and written before two thousand years ago. I believe these sources will not change frequent. One day the ability of stable edition of wiki will be implemented, and I assume that this feature will shed the light of citing source from wikis.

Hi Siobhan Hansa, It was not a kind of legal threat. I dont want to get in to a legal battle with wikipedia. I do like and respect wikipedia service and use it atleast once a day.
But as I said earlier i have only 2 income sources. One is adsense and other one is my shareware products. Thats is why i am really worried about it.
1.I am affraid if somebody from adsense team sees my id under a spam list might affect my relationship with them.
2.If my product users see my company name under some spam list might affect my sales (that too in a reputed site like wiki).

Social Entrepreneurship[edit]

I like to begin by saying thank you. Wikipedia is a truly amazing site providing outstanding information to millions of people around the world. This can only be done with the help of individuals like yourself and many others. In a much more minor way, I too have decided to contribute to Wikipedia.
A few years back I learned of Dr. Abraham George and his foundation through friends and family. Since, I have kept up with his work and found that he has contributed in many affective ways to fighting poverty. While recently searching the web, I discovered that there was no information about Dr. George on Wikipedia. Feeling that his work was worthy I decided to create a page on him and his foundation.
I recently put a bit of information specifically about Dr. George on the Social Entrepreneurship page which I believe you disagreed with. It was an additional line about Dr. George and his contributions as a current social entrepreneur. You may not agree that this information belongs on this page, but if you were to take a little more time, you would recognize the contributions of Dr. George in the field of Social Entrepreneurship.
For the past eleven years Dr. George has given all his time and money to help the poorest individuals in India find a way to break out of the cycle of poverty. Additionally, Dr. George has been recognized by some of our finest journalists: Thomas Friedman, Charlie Rose, Daniel Gross, and many others as one of the worlds leading Social Entrepreneurs. To truly discuss, social entrepreneurship, Dr. George's name must be mentioned.
On a related note, his approach is slightly different from the method of the other men mentioned on this page. Dr. George and his foundation impact the poorest communities, while these other men actually focus more on the lower-middle class and slightly above. Based on the definition of Social Entrepreneurship on the page, Dr. George is as fit to be mentioned as the other men, if not more so.
I know you are very busy and quickly make decisions where you see fit, but I ask you to look at the facts that I have presented and discuss the matter further with me.
I sincerely thank you again for your innumerous contributions to Wikipedia and I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the matter.

Women are increasingly taking an active role in many societies. I thought that you might be interested that User:TRFA is stripping out a section on women's advances and is stripping out a list of women premiers and other political leaders such as Tansu Ciller, Condoleezza Rice and Nancy Pelosi from the woman article. Global question[edit]
There are a few points here.
I suspect, by User:TRFA's edit summaries and edit history that he has a problem with noting women in power, and that the globalize point is a mere ruse to strip out the article. He strips out the women leaders without explaining why he ie doing this, other than mentioning globalization. The premiers include women outside of OECD countries, e.g., Pakistan, Liberia, Dominica and Bangladesh.
The other editor today argued that sex object standards do warrant keeping the Monroe photo. I'd agree with her.
But, yes, it's time for me to write on the status of women internationally. I've been a wiki addict for pop culture trivia :) (Trivia is easier to write than serious issues. -latter involves more research and reflection.)
I would hope that we could keep the section on the status of women internationally. Readers could more quickly see the contrasts of status of women between world regions. Cheers Dogru144 21:51, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

As I realize you want to really limit any possible leak of credibility on Wikipedia, I would like to offer a comprise that can benefit both Wikipedia and the Pulitzer Center. We could cap all external links to the Pulitzer Center to a certain number of links where we, as Pulitzer Center editors will be certain to only submit links we believe are fully relevant. We would even be willing to have a Wikipeda editor review our link requests before posting them.

New WikiProject?[edit]
Hi Siobhan,
A few of us are thinking about starting a WikiProject for Textile Arts, to bring knitting and all such fiber crafts under one roof, together with clothing and fashion design. A WikiProject would allow us to use the automated assessments of the Mathbot, which seem important for bringing our work into the Wikipedia mainstream. We need to find 5 editors who are interested in editing, say, one article per month — would you be willing to join? I hope so! The sign-up page is here. Link removed from Cyprus Page[edit]
Hi Siobhan
I wanted to query why the link I put into the Cyprus page was removed as there are already external links there to other Cyprus guides eg the Cyprus Guide to www.agora-Cyprus.com which a site advertising and promoting Cyprus property/car hire etc. My link was to a new site giving great information about Cyprus and there are NO advertising or affiliate links on it. Why is it one rule for some sites and not for others? I though I was adding some essential information for visitors to Cyprus which would add to their experience.

Hi, I hope I'm doing this right...I'm the Communications Director at Sundance Vacations. I see there is a link on the Lottery scam page and that it says Sundance uses an image to count down time on a clock to get a response. Sundance has never done that, nor has it ever offered a 7 day/6 night Bahama cruise. I don't know what company does this, but it's not and never has been Sundance Vacations. Is it possible to remove the link? I've spoken with others on the Sundance talk page about this information being in the article and I want to edit it out because it's incorrect. An editor is continuously vandalising my Bio over dispute related to Talk:Anton Balasingham. The editor tried hard to delete my Bio from wikipedia. You can see the evidence here(1) and here(2)' The editor is taking an undue interest over my Bio and deleted over Citation. I have restored the information. I requested an Administrator to check my Bio whether Citations are enough. I also taken this matter for Request for Comment. Though I have off-line media archives(which are attached on Talk:Rajkumar Kanagasingam, I couldn't bring it to the articles. Now I am very much frustrated. Hi Siobhan, thanks for taking the time to respond on removing the tag. I'd seen this article a while ago and whenever I see a cut-and-paste style article, unlinked, no sources, only external links to their website, written by an obvious conflict of interest account it rings alarm bells. I should have checked for AfD and thanks for doing so. The article is one-sided without any 3rd party commentary, criticism or the like; Do they achieve their objectives, how much do they raise awareness, are they a major player or a fringe organisation, are they an efficient organisation at influencing, or do they just run a small conference once a year, is their journal widely read, is Hunout influential? All those questions remain unanswered in this article. All I know is they they try to raise awareness on one issue. Hello You removed a link from the Discovery Learning article to www.learning theories.com. You were quite pointed in your criticism, stating that the website has "no provenance" and implying that it is somehow spam. I didn't replace it, though the information on the website did not seem to be either offensive or inaccurate, at least as far as Jerome Bruner's work. I only have a master's degree in educational psychology...so I may not be qualified to judge the site...I assume you have a doctorate in the area and have done professional research if you are making such a judgement. Packaging journal[edit]
You had deleted reference to a magazine or journal because it is not free. The intent of having these types of references listed is to let the reader know that there is a large body of knowlege available on this subject. Of course readers do not have to buy each journal: Many are available at a good univeristy library. This is similar to providing a list of good books on a subject: We do not expect everybody to buy them but readers can be made aware of them and can go to a library. First, I posted some comments on the social change talk page, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Social_change, and have not seen any response to my posted note, except your note to me on my talk page. Are you the only one who looks at the talk page?
Second, you had written "the quote itself is not from a respected peer reviewed journal or book on the subject". How is 'respected book' defined? On the talk page, I listed a number of sites that link to our reports, including several web pages of the UK government, the Development Gateway, the University of Chicago's model UN, Eldis and Intute. I also had written that we have published articles describing or discussing most of the data we use. For example, I have described most of the data in various International Statistical Institute Newsletters, see this for a list http://gsociology.icaap.org/report/whoare.html and have also discussed the data and their usage in a Social Research Update issue, see http://sru.soc.surrey.ac.uk/SRU47.html. Finally, our reciprocal links page http://gsociology.icaap.org/these.html lists a large number of other organizations or people who list our reports. These organizations and people believe our reports are respected. What additional information would be needed?
Just to mention, our social change project is also listed by five sections of the American Sociological Association, two research committees of the International Sociological Association, by a number of other sociological associations, and by a large number of other organizations and people. All of these people believe our project is respected, at least enough to link to.
Third, you had also written that our use of our reports as references "did not actually provide good verification of the facts being cited." The wikipedia page on verifiability says ""Verifiable" in this context means that any reader should be able to check that material added to Wikipedia has already been published by a reliable source." As I may have mentioned, all of our reports provide links to the data sources and to reports from other organizations which have similar conclusions. These other organizations often include the UN, world bank, or other well known organizations. In addition, as mentioned above, a large number of organizations link to our reports and so presumably consider our reports reliable. Is this verification sufficient? If not, what other verification would be needed?
As I mentioned, there have been no responses on the social change talk page. Can I consider that I make my case sufficiently well? Can I go ahead and add content?

Just to mention, I had added most of the EXAMPLES section and all of the MEASURING SOCIAL CHANGE sections a long time ago, using my social change project as the reference. If the reference to my site is to be removed, then these sections should be removed as well. Alternatively, if these sections seem useful, then the reference to my site should be posted to the page. Social Work Podcast[edit]
Thanks for your email. I checked out the policies before adding the links and believe they fit neither the definition of spam nor conflict of interest. Although the podcast website is registered by me, it is in no way a personal website. I believe the links do not constitute spam because they do not constitute personal promotion. Because the podcasts are audio articles that are based on research, include references and are professionally recorded, they are consistent with the links to websites containing similar text-based scholarly information. They just happen to be audio recordings. For example, on the Gestalt site, there is a link to the Manchester Gestalt Center. This site contains more personal promotion than the social work podcast (there are links to personal bios, for-profit-training, etc). In contrast, socialworkpodcast.com, has no commercial value, nor does it promote me personally any more than an authored article promotes the author.
The second concern, that the links could be construed as a conflict of interest, is curious because the specific links dealt only with the subjects under which they were listed (e.g. gestalt, stigma, etc). They constitute no more of an endorsement by Wikipedia than any other link.

The section of the external links guideline you quoted makes sense. As per your suggestion I added the recommendation to the Talk section of one of the entries and will add to the other entries as I have time.
I personally think the site lacks authority and notability
I'm interested in knowing why you think the site lacks authority. Is it because you don't know who I am?
these podcasts are effectively audio blogs
The information in the podcasts is scholarly in that I cite where I got the information I'm talking about. Not only do I cite it in the podcast, but I also cite it on the website in the form of a reference page. I'm wondering if the site included a notice that the podcasts had been peer-reviewed in a way that was similar to scholarly journals if that would change how you categorize the podcast. These podcasts are not "my opinion" about the topics any more than a summary of the theory on some of the linked pages is an opinion (for example, http://www.mythosandlogos.com/Rogers.html on the Carl Rogers page).
What would be in the spirit of Wikipedia would be for you to add content to our articles!
If you check my history, you'll see that I do add information to the articles. I did not add content to the articles I linked to because the my purpose was to augment the information available, not replicate it.
external links don't bring content within that general mission
I believe that audio versions of information generally found on the Wikipedia pages (for example a scholarly audio program on existential thearpy) is congruent with the mission of wikipedia. Would it be better to embed the file in the wikipedia page? --Jonathan B Singer 02:53, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Recently I have created a free resource to the users of the following software packages: Poser /Daz Studio/Byce,Vue all of whom can use Poser content. The figure resource I have created for free use, called Apollo Maximus, is not spam or a commercial Item,. My site is not a store. I do not sell anything 3d related. I do create resources for 3d artists in these titles. I am the originator, creator, and sole owner of Apollo Maximus. Why are links on the Daz STudio page allowed but when someone posts a link to my resource, their entry is removed without discussion?
I started posting myself when this was brought to my attention. My attempt to re add it, and not being entirely familiar with this site's very complicated commication process has lead me here. It seems because the link keeps getting removed daily, and thus I re-add it I have received a spamming message.
as that regardless of whether the link is posted by others or myself, and that similar additions are allowed to remain, and as that multiple references to the software entry above are being simultaneously removed without discussion or proper explaination, I would appreciate resolution to this matter for concern of bias.
I would also appreciate my link to this free community software resource not being deleted, where others, within the same scope and topic, are permitted to remain. I would also appreciate any spamming references or actions being removed.
I have received a misguided message that I am somehow spamming the entries above. I have not been Spamming these entries think close examination of the link and the wiki subject would show it's value as a community related resource permitted under external links. I have simply been re-adding them as they have been deleted, assumingly by someone not wanting them seen.

- The links were removed because they violated our guidelines in several ways:
- They were systematically added to multiple articles by single or related IP addresses without community consensus. Mass addition of links in this manner is spamming by our definition, regardless of the website that is being added.
- None of Wikipedia's articles allow "community links", we encourage the addition of a few external links that add encyclopedic value to an article. And occasionally editors of an article will agree that a link that doesn't add encyclopedic value is nevertheless a good link to have and should stay. A link to free software does not add encyclopedic value, though it may be considered useful by editors.
- We also ask that people connected to a website do not add links to that site directly to the article but instead put a request on the article talk page asking regular editors of the article to consider adding it.
- If you still believe the link should be added you need to post to the talk page of each article you believe the link is appropriate for (for each article there is a "discussion" tag at the top of the page, click on this to get to the talk page) and ask other editors to consider the appropriateness of the link. -- Siobhan Hansa 12:08, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm glad this user finally identified himself, because I'm sick of reverting his links and now unsubtle product inserts. I'd like to address his claims. First off, his website is a commercial web site, he sells his services off of the site. The "free" product he claims to offer is copyrighted and the usage restrictions that come with it hardly qualify it as free (even in his letter to you he claims to be "owner" of the product). This link is simply self promotion for his design services. Second, the type of "free" 3d model that he offers is commonly available by the thousands all over the net; entire web sites are dedicated to cataloging and offering them...hardly a subject of importance or interest. Third, his claim that "The link is directly relevant, valuable, and of interest to the Software topics it is posted to" is complete nonsense. If you look at the spoof IPs he's been using, he's posted his SPAM everywhere from articles on a popular 3D terrain editing software package to an article on one of the original chatterbots. Hardly relevant or valuable to those articles. Even after his warnings and his letter to you he's tried to change tactics by inserting non-linked information about his products onto Wikipedia. - "Mr. Kisiel" is operating under at least nine different addresses/names posting his links now. In some cases he has posted Spam and been reverted by separate editors three times in the same article in one day. If you'll note the changelogs for the past week for a lot of the attacked articles they simply amount to editors having to remove his Spam again and again. I see that you and others have warned him about this repeatedly under multiple names and addressees and since that time he has ignored you and posted exactly the same link again and again on a daily and sometimes hourly basis. To put it politely, I doubt very seriously there would ever be any reason or consensus reached to post his links in any Wikipedia article. For that matter, I can't see him ever making a legitimate contribution to Wikipedia, though he does seem to be an expert on stalling, wasting peoples time, and self promotion. Is there any way to elevate this and stop this guy? As far as I can tell, the only contributions he has ever made to Wikipedia are posting the same Spam link in articles close to 100 times now. - Hi Grandrapidsdan, Thanks for responding and taking the time to check out our policies. The pages you are listed on are not a list of Spam sites, sites like google, myspace and buy.com are listed. It's simply a set of working pages to document our history. Removing information from them means that we no longer have documentation of what has been done and makes it much harder for us to understand how often we get things right or wrong, what has been looked at in the past and (eventually we hope) what the best approaches are to building the encyclopedia.
- Wikipedia's list of identified spam sites is kept at: m:Spam_blacklist with discussions at m:Talk:Spam_blacklist (and archives). Your site is not on any of those pages. I hope this reassures you. If you find there are negative affects of our document pages we would appreciate hearing about how it impacts you. Custom chopper bicycles[edit]
I am trying, with the support of the majority of the subculture I represent, to present unbiased, documented information. I have made many changes using other biographys as examples, but I have only a few newspaper articles to reference. I believe that the chopper bicycle article I authored is not different from articles on other cycle types that are not in dispute. I also feel that the emergence of the modern chopper bicycle movement and custom chopper bicycle designers such as myself, is newsworthy and should be documented. As for my biographical information, I have been getting many calls since my TV appearences and I believe people would like to know something about myself as well as my bikes. PLEASE HELP. COMMENT: I'm confused as to why you removed the link on the eGovernment page that links to govitwiki.com. According to WikiPedia's own criteria for "what should be linked" the site very much conforms to those guidelines. Please closely read #3 and #4. Training and capacity building work provided to developing country and LDC governments by XXXXX has two principle objectives. Firstly, it includes trade negotiator and policymaker training on the fundamentals of globalization statistics, specifically GATS statistics as per the GATS Four Modes of Supply, FDIstatistics and statistics detailing the operations of FDI-based enterprises, being multinational corporations or transnational corporations. FDI-operations statistics, which comprise statistics on employment, value-added, capital expenditures, inter- and intra- firm trade, are called foreign affiliate trade statistics (FATS). Secondly, and more importantly, XXXXX helps national governments to improve trade in services statistics and FDI statistics by providing training on data collection methodologies which are conformant to International Monetary Fund (IMF) statistical standards, and recommendations of the United Nations Manual on Statistics on International Trade in Services (MSITS), created as a joint intergovernmental effort chaired by the OECD-Eurostat Inter-Agency Task Force on Statistics on International trade in Services. XXXXX technical assistance will help the over 120 developing countries which require this form of assistance, to meet IMF and other criteria, while providing governments with information which is more useful for negotiations and policymaking, and which private sector enterprises in developing countries and LDCs can use to make evidence-based decisions.
Why put it back[edit]
It explains what ISTIA does, has inline citations (which is what everyone is asking for. Writing about whether istia is an international agency or international association acting in a non-governmental capacity is a legal defintion which is helpful to no one. Most people don't understand those distinctions, and though I spent 3 days new links to describe all the above sections (or improve the messy ones that existed) I have no desire to write a legal definition of association, NGOs, etc here.

You seem fine with the fact that I'm being personally insulted on the board (or all admins don't seem to care) so I'm taking my name off of the board, where it has been written, and then leaving the community. But I'm not being allowed to do that - the same harassors are putting it back. I've reported them for vandalism and no one has done anything.
If you, or other administrators don't act on this, I'll find another way to act. This is my job, an agency funded by governments, and these kids don't understand that this is serious. They are young. But if they don't take this seriously, and since no one is helping me, I'm going to have to take serious step.

No, it won't educate anyone, which is a damned shame. If you'd have asked me some questions, I could have helped you earlier, instead of just editing and cutting it up. The edits here explain a lot, and you just cut them out. Would you do me the favor of explaining why this needed to be cut out? I think I deserve an explanation. I spent hours writing material on trade in services and FDI on Wikipedia, and this is the thanks I get.
I can appreciate your wikification, but you cannot just cut out the substance of an article about which you don't know anything. That isn't editing.

There really are about 100 people in the world working in this area. Most of them don't write on the internet (many of them don't know how to type, yes, many economists still dont, esp here in Europe). So this was a real loss for wikipedia.

- I found what you meant by looking back a bit from the link you provided. The problem with the link as you've put it in is that it simply points people to another page. You need to rewrite and summarize the information in the UK section on Wikipedia itself. Then use the link as a reference for that information. WP:External links guideline and DMOZ linking[edit]
I just wanted to say how much I appreciate your participation in the debate over at WP:EL concerning DMOZ linking. Although we disagree, as you know, you have been quite civil and willing to acknowledge the concerns of others. Other participants in that discussion, including some administrators, have not been as easy to deal with.
As far as our own disagreement goes, I know that you have the best interests of the Project at heart, and I certainly will acknowledge that the formerly included DMOZ language was not a perfect solution to the serious problem of linkspam. I think it just boils down to you feeling it did more harm than good, whereas I believe the converse, albeit marginally.
I have not been able to participate in that debate as much as I would like due to other commitments (both on- and off-Wiki), but at least I am not longer completely discouraged and frustrated by the manner and tone of the conversation. Sources for paper industry figures[edit]
Yeah, the addition of unsourced stuff, it's an encyclopædia-wide problem. Ideas, policy allows the removal of such stuff the burden being on those who want it kept to varify it (but I s'pose this isn't news to you). We could tag the article with {{Unreferenced}} to draw the attention of these editors to this problem. - Hi again. Just so you know, my criteria for the photo (as I posted to Debivort include that they must be in the anatomical position, and:
They must be nude, with no tattoos, piercings other body modifications or scars (so as not to distract), and preferably with normal body hair distribution patterns (i.e. not shaved extensively below the neck - a clean-shaven face is better, though, for showing facial details). They should not be the (not so) standard magazine models that drive people to anorexia, bulemia or steriod use, but "real" people. (No anorexic/clinically obese/breast-implanted/penis-enlarged/body-building types.) And I put "clinically obese" because most people that think they're fat are quite normal. A real big bonus would be having "normal" people of different races! ("Normal's not the right word, and "average" is mildly insulting, but you know what I mean...) Age is not important.

Hello Siobhan, I read your response to my questions about why my posted external links weren't kosher. I could see your points. Now I'm seeing that links that were previously listed have now disappeared, after having been there for months and months-- these links would not have been added by anyone affiliated with us. I have checked the guidelines and think this link is highly relevant also I want to add that I haven’t found a better article which tackles “'ontogenesis recapitulates phylogenesis' postulate” There are also some extremely important quotes about Jung's Nazi involvement. I think the Link is worth just for those quotes (check the notes) I think they are highly relevant to the whole corpus. I am sure they cannot be included in the main Encyclopedia article but a link serves good in such a case.

Question on Sites removed - in paticular kategreenawaycards[edit]
I see that you have removed two links that I had added. In relooking at the sites I agree with the remove of enjoyagame however I do not believe that the kategreenawaycards link should have been removed. In looking that that site it does offer valuable research information (I myself am a Greenaway collector and use this site as a reference to verfiy cards I am looking for). This site in paticular has many images of Kate Greenaway works through the period in which she was closly involved with design of greeting cards (none of the other links seem to offer this information). Removal of blog link on Palliative Care[edit]
I noticed in cleaning up links you removed the Pallimed Link to a blog that could be considered a respected authority on hospice and palliative care issues. Linking to blogs is not encouraged unless by a 'respected authority.' The blog is focused specifically on current hospice & palliative care issues, is written by two non-anonymous physicians, has a sizable following (>300 subscribers) for a niche field, and has been consistently updated for 2.5 years. It is not a 'blog' in the common usage of the word, but rather a comprehensive resource. Please check Pallimed, for quality assurance, and pass on any comments for re-inclusion. The article on Social change could be nominated for deletion?[edit]
Hi Siobhan. For the five millionth time I have reverted the addition of a link to http://gsociology.icaap.org to the Social change article. I see your name in the history also. Could it be time for an AfD? I'm not sure that 'social change' is a topic of study that has a well-defined common meaning in social science. It appears (from very brief acquaintance) to be a sort of code word that is found inspiring by a certain political group, like 'law and order' was, for a different group, in the American politics of the 1960s. Or like 'social justice.' (I'm willing to be corrected on this). I don't believe that right-wing politicians ask for 'social change.' Judging from the recent edit history, if we were to delete the Social change article, there would not be a great loss of careful work by other editors. What do you think? The Article on Jonathan B. Lerner[edit]
Hello Siobhan. I was browsing rather aimlessly on wikipedia today and I came across a page discussing the deletion of an article that had been written on Jonathan B. Lerner. I noticed that during the discussion, you mentioned how Mr. Lerner was lacking in notability and that when you searched his name on Google.com you could not come up with much info at all. I find that hard to believe, quite frankly. I happen to be a big fan of Mr. Lerner's and his work as a performer and when I searched the web for some info. on the individual, within 2 minutes I had over four different websites containing articles on him. Some examples would be:

Many, many more articles (most of which more detailed and impressive) on Mr. Lerner can be found at [[39]]. Not only that, but as a fan of his and a native of his hometown I can tell you flat out that Lerner is quite notable as both an actor and a singer in the Kansas City Metropolitan area. I feel strongly that he is beyond worthy of an article on an online encyclopedia such as this one and very much support the undeletion of the originally written article. Thank you. I'm NOT spamming. What makes you think I am? Please explain. I'm a veteran homeschooling mom/consultant in Colorado who is trying to help spread viable information and site locations on both subjects - vs all that commercial yuck that's so rampant now. West River Academy is an accredited school for unschoolers around the world and its been in operation since 1993. As I told you, I am not famous, I am known in Brazil as a good journalist specially what concerns about Middle East. The article is categorised as 'Brazilian journalists', 'journalists' and 'reporters and correspondents', which means that it is just a matter of informing about 'Brazilian press profissionals. And this is true, I AM a Brazilian journalist, I AM a reporter and correspondent. We don't need sources to tell about it. It is not a matter of notability, of the relevance of my work. For some my work is not relevant, for others it is, depends the point of view. And Wikipedia, as far as I know it was supposed to be democratic. How many people are listed in Wikipedia that for some people are not important but for others they are? ANYWAY, the sources to tell you that my work is good is based on people who liked it (editors, coleagues, readers, friends), people who know me of course (it is quite impossible dfor someone living in Russia to know me since my main work is written mostly in portuguese)...but sources written in books or internet there's not much (as I told you, I am not that famous considering the size of Brazil). I can only re-write the article to fit an encyclopedia text style and with no exaggeration, just facts and the few sources I've got (the sources I have cited are neutral because they were written years after I left college and by people who I've never met (and it was provided by the university). I just inserted an article about me to provide info to others, not to get famous, I am already walking the path to achieve that by hard work. Feel free I you think the article must be deleted. Hi! I had no intention of uploading anything with advertising. I now realise that there were some very anoying pop-up windows which I had not realised that my provider was still adding to some of my pages. I have contacted my provider and have now removed all of these. I didn't want them either, but didn't see them, as I usually block pop-up windows. Sorry for any inconvenience! The only reason that I added a personal link was because my father took a very small part in the film "Simon Birch" and has not received any credits anywhere for this - which I felt was a pity. Regarding Changes[edit]
First, let me introduce myself. My name is Gary Gagliardi. I am generally recognized as the world's leading authority on Sun Tzu's The Art of War, at least by the media, where I appear regularly, the various groups that give book awards, who give me awards regularly, and among organizations that want training in Sun Tzu's methods, which include the largest organizations in the world. I have written over fifteen books on the topic. Ten of them have won book awards in the last few years. My books on Sun Tzu have been translated all over the world. My works are used for teaching strategy and Chinese culture by universities and other training organizations around the world. You can find out more about me by simply searching on my name. I am in regular communication with most people doing research or papers on Sun Tzu around the world, including many in China and Taiwan.
Wikipedia's articles on The Art of War and Sun Tzu, like most of popular understanding of the work, gets as much wrong as it does right. I could expand or correct that material, but others with no qualifications at all on the topic can easily overwrite my work if they don't like it and many will not like it because the topic "war" is a political hot buttn for so many people. More importantly, you can accuse me of having commercial interests in the topic because, like any serious and successful expert, I do have such an interests. All my books are products. I get paid for offering training on Sun Tzu, even when teaching courses at a university, which I do when I have the time. At least one of my university classes is on video and offered as a commercial product, which I have a financial interest in. The vast majority of the people in the world who are offering training in Sun Tzu's Art of War strategy are using course materials that I played a least a part in developing. Anything that touches the popularity of Sun Tzu affects me financially in some way.
I can link to a lot of pages with relevant and correct information about Sun Tzu and the Art of War, but that information will be at sites that are at least linked to stores or schools that offer material or courses for money. I am sure you have run into these situations with other experts. How do you resolve them on Wikipedia? Or are you simply resolved to keeping the information on your site limited to sources that are purely amateur?
Oh, by the way, the one book of mine you do mention in your Art of Warpage (out of the ten books I have written on the subject that have won award-recognition and the fifteen I have done total) has an outdated ISBN and other incorrect information. I corrected it once, but someone (you?) changed it back. It seems like at least some people on your site are very dedicated to providing misinformation as well as limiting correct information about what is available to the general public. First of all, let me apologize for responding to your last note in this discussion page again. Once more, I am not familiar with Wiki protocols (and there seem to be quite a number) and using discussion pages as email seems a bit cumbersome. Heck, I don't even know how to find my own user page on Wiki without book markting it.
With your encouragement, I will try to add as much relevant information the people may find interesting as I can to the Art of War and Sun Tzu pages. I did try to answer some questions on the discussion page, but I don't see my response so perhaps I didn't save it correctly or it got lost some other way.
As far as my concerns about the topic of "war," I personally wish that no one had every put the word "War" in the English title of the Bing-fa. Sun Tzu wrote the Bing-fa as a scientific work. A great deal of it is dedicated to the precise definition of terms. In the original Chinese, it reads much like Euclid's Geometry in the ancient Greek (another one of my hobbies). He defines "bing" in his first stanza as "the skill of survival," like our modern idea of "survival of the fittest." He defines "fa" in his seventh stanza as "methods that serve a goal." While no one would be against learning survival skills or methods to reach goals, there is a whole crowd of people who have a rather foolish knee-jerk reaction to the very word "war."
My biggest problem with the Wiki article is that much of it and the resulting discussion are based on poor translation. Virtually all English translations are taken almost mindlessly from "modern" Chinese dictionaries The result is laughable. Even the Chinese have to translate ancient Chinese, even though they still use the same characters (or more precisely, the decendents of those characters since Sun Tzu wrote before the current "brush" based characters, when Chinese was written in using a stylus on bamboo.) This mistranslation leads to some absurd statements. For example, a character that currently means "persistent" originally meant "long time." You can easily see the relationship. However, one popular English translation renders a line of Sun Tzu to read "No success in battle comes from being persistent." Which seems just plain stupid, but, of course, the original sense of "No successull battle lasts a long-time," is easy to understand, especially in since one of Sun Tzu's main points is that conflict is expensive and that success is not just to winning but to make victory pay.
For example, the chapter titles reference Chow-Hou Wee's translation. I have never heard of Chow-Hou Wee, but I can tell you that his chapter English titles have nothing to do with Sun Tzu's work (though the Chinese is correct) and more about what Chow-Hee thinks the chapter is about. Once again, Sun Tzu defines the terms he uses, especially those he uses as chapter titles. However, a listing of chapter titles is not as useful as a brief explanation of what the chapters cover and why. Sun Tzu developed his book in a very systematic way: starting with basic concepts and building on them through the course of the work. Each chapter has a purpose: chapter one defines the key factors affecting decision-making, chapter two covers the economics of competition, and so on. It is also useful to know that the book is written in a circle, so that the last chapter on information sources leads back to the first chapter on situation analysis.
The section on "Thesis-AntiThesis-Synthesis" is some of the purest drivel I have every seen associated with Sun Tzu. There have been lots of commentators on Sun Tzu down through the centuries and most of them are pretty dense. Sun Tzu had some very Darwinian ideas but Hegel and Sun Tzu are a million miles apart in approach. One of my main criticisms of most English translation of Sun Tzu is that they mix commentary with translation, often with the commentary replacing the Sun Tzu. For example, Griffith didn't like a lot of Sun Tzu's ideas so he would translated one line, say, "Always leave an escape route for your opponent." Then he would add his own commentary to undermine Sun Tzu, which as I recall in this case was something like, "This isn't so the enemy can get away, but so that you can chase him down from the rear and destroy him," which is a complete invention on Griffith's part. One of the reasons I did my translation was so that people could compare the original text (which I provide in transliterations) with a given translation so that they could see what the "translators" were just making up on their own. All this drivel about what Tu Mu said or what Hsiang said is just so much nonsense and the Hegelian twist on it is nonsense times two.
However, a discussion of the ancient Chinese philosophy of science would be very helpful in understanding The Art of War. Sun Tzu patterned his five key factors (introduced in the beginning of chapter one) after the five elements of classical Chinese science and philosophy. (Much as the five Greek elements influenced Western science for generations.) He also used the graphical/geographical diagramming method from the I Ching now known as the ba gua ("eight directions" after the eight cardinal points on the compass) as one of his organizing principles. A great deal of Chinese culture and medicine are built around the many associations of the ba gua and the five elements. I did a whole book (The Art of War plus Its Amazing Secrets) around the ancient diagramming methods and cultural symbolism of the Bing-fa that is lost on modern readers. (And unfortunately, on many from mainland China, where a lot of this was culture suppressed in the twentieth century, but preserved among the Chinese outside of PRC.)
Sun Tzu's ideas are pretty easy to understand once they are explained in in terms of Asian culture. Much of his system involves what we call "complementary opposites," that is the balance of opposing forces that require each other to exist. In the west, we call this idea "yin and yang" but in Sun Tzu, every system exists as a balance of forces: climate and ground create the environment, command and methods create an organization, obvious action and surprise create momentum and so on. For Sun Tzu, understanding competitive systems means working with these opposing forces. These forces are polarities: pure opposites in their nature, though they create each other in a cycle.
It can get confusing though because Sun Tzu also teaches a very important and seemingly similar concept, but one that is really very different called emptiness and fullness. Emptiness and fullness is the descriptions of extremes that exist along a continuum of conditions (as opposed to pure polarities). For Sun Tzu, all relative conditions (large/small, fast/slow, near/far, weak/strong, unobstructed/barricaded, etc.) can be simplified into the idea of emptiness/fullness. The title of his Chapter Six (rendered in Wiki as "weakness and strength") is actually the Chinese character for emptiness (poverty, need, etc.) and fullness (abundance, wealth, etc.). In Sun Tzu's analysis, extreme conditions that along the one continuum engender their opposite extreme in OTHER conditions along OTHER continuums. So large forces are slow; empty land creates speed, and so on.
Your "Appplication Outside the Military" section is also kind of silly. It is more about name-dropping and popular culture than about people actually using Sun Tzu's methods. The truth is that most of the practical application of Sun Tzu are being used in the business world in business courses at universities and industry seminars. People might also find the historical relationship between the Asian martial arts and the Bing-fa interesting. The interest of some cricket player or even political advisor in The Art of War says virtually nothing about the practical application of Sun Tzu's methods. I personally have worked for both political parties and can tell you that in the real world, real political contests have been decided more often by politicians ignoring Sun Tzu's advice than using it. (True life: A group of Democrats tried to get John Kerry to use a Sun Tzu's approach in positioning on the War in Iraq, but Kerry and his key advisors didn't understand it and refused. Could he have won using it? We will never know.)
Well, that is enough for now. I really don't know how or where to start here. Perhaps you can advise. Well what I put on Edmund's page was more accurate than what he was having on it. However since I didn't have sources then it only made my statements about him have the same amount of truthfulness to them as his. I am simply trying to ensure that moderators and such are aware of him being a problem and trying to poison sites with him pretending to be a TV star (how can someone be a TV star when their claim to fame is being in a tv program when they were 5?). Debatepedia links[edit]
The links that I provided to debatepedia fit very well the usefulness and reliability criteria of Wikipedia. The wiki.idebate.org/index.php/Debate:Same_sex_marriage and wiki.idebate.org/index.php/Debate:Gun_Control are incredibly useful pages on the topics, and reliably site their sources. While Debatepedia.org is a relatively new wiki (one year old), the utility of these pages should outweigh these concerns. It is the utility of the individual articles that is most important, not the overall credentials of Debatepedia.org at this point. Furthermore, the only criteria that Debatepedia.org does not abide by perfectly yet is that it is a new wiki, but should this be made an absolute block against linking to particular articles on the site with very high merit, source reliability, and utility to users? - Debaterx 20:31, 19 October 2007 (UTC)

- I knew about the block but didn't realize the link was up for blacklisting - I thought I'd been keeping an eye on it and hadn't spotted anymore spamming on wiki for a week or two. I guess I'm not as fast as I thought! I'll try and remember to put in a white list request for the straight International Debate Education Association homepage for the actual article on them tomorrow. As to understanding: User:Debaterx was, I guess, just excited about the project and only able to see the world in terms of that. I've worked a lot in non-profits and I know the mindset is often complete disbelief that anyone could think badly of them or what they do for publicity because, well, they're a non-profit. Question about Removal of External Link[edit]
Hi, I noticed that you removed the link to a Google Maps mashup I created showing popular baby names. I added to the link to List_of_most_popular_given_names. Thanks for bringing the guidelines to my attention. After reading them, the only item I seem to have violated was the prohibition against "Advertising and conflicts of interest". Please let me know if you feel I violated other guidelines. On a side note, does that mean if someone other than myself (even a friend) submitted the link, it would be acceptable? I'm just trying to figure out the rules here...
I suppose my argument for inclusion of the link is the same reason as why I built it in the first place. Existing sites (including Wikipedia) do a great job of showing popular baby names in for a single region (or a few names from many regions) in boring old HTML tables. The benefit of a Maps mashup like mine is that the data is presented in a much more accessible fashion. For example, a search of a baby's name immediately shows where it is popular.
Anyhow, I apologize if I broke some rules here at Wikipedia. I won't edit again. I look forward to reading your response so that I can better understand how Wikipedia is governed. Thanks much, Guy davis1 02:01, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

I've been trying to turn debate in the direction of whether the link is worthy of inclusion under WP:EL (sock accusations aside), but User:MarnetteD seemed only interested in accusing Scrooby of abusing sockpuppets (although he refused to take such accusations to WP:SSP). I would like to know why you feel so strongly that the sex abuse cases in American Public Schools pages should be deleted? Do you think that compiling a complimentary listing of these issues will harm people? If you do, please consider proposing for deletion the same wikipages for the Roman Catholic Church sex abuse cases. I do not see the difference between what has been created for the Catholic Church and what Student7 is trying to create for the Public Schools. They are exactly the same thing but different institutions. All have major news coverage and reliable third party references. All name specific people who have been accused. I ask you to be unbiased in your application of Wikipolicy with regard to these pages. - You brought up good points in your arguments. I did go and look at the Wikipedia policies you highlighted and read them. I would like to ask you to go to these two articles(listed at the bottom here) and see if you think these should be nominated for AfD after applying the same logic as you did to the Public Schools pages. If you think they should be deleted, I ask you to nominate them. If I were to do so, it would not be as a disinterested party since I am a Catholic and am part of Wikipedia Catholicism project. It just seems to me to be incomplete for an encyclopedia to have a huge page for Catholic Church offenses and nothing for the equally great Public Schools offenses. Either tell the whole truth and not just one side of the story or dont tell the story. Hi, I apologise if I've broken wiki rules regarding external links and different usernames. It was nothing sinister I just forgot what my username was and created another. - If the links are just to commercial suppliers home pages they probably aren't appropriate; if they go to an informative page on the suppliers site they may be good. I was following your additions after noticing them on one particular page I watch, I haven't looked closely at all the links on all the pages I removed yours from. On the account/IP side - it's not obligatory to edit from a user account, but it makes conversations and collaboration easier. Your use of IPs and multiple accounts certainly made me more suspicious but your reasons are not nefarious, and I need to assume good faith and not let myself get too jaded to appreciate the diversity of people's situations. -- SiobhanHansa 19:46, 12 October 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing out the BLP problems with the Sex abuse - Iowa school article. I finally understood what you were saying. Sorry it took so long. Best of all, I feel a lot better about anonymizing the articles. That had been bothering me for some time.
I have another question if you have the time. The actual specifics may not be important since the article itself may be huffed shortly (!), but it might help my education. In the article Sex abuse cases in American public schools (Texas), there is a section that has very explicit details starting with "14 year old girl." It is not pretty. The actual disposition of the material is not terrible relevant. I would be interested rather in your thinking behind it. I kept the details, not for prurience sake, but to allow readers to realize what a witness had to go through to prove a case. The defendant, of course, was hoping she'd flinch and not be able to go through with it. Every parent's nightmare. I just wanted to let you know I have added neutral information in the past and it has been pulled as well (not blaming you at all) just saying it is frustrating to put time and effort in to contribute to wikipedia to enhance general knowledge and my efforts are erased, while other sites are able to spam and get free traffic to their sites. I apologize for reacting a bit harsh, I am just frustrated and I am trying to do the right thing. I admit I have made some mistakes in the past, but I hope you and the wikipedia community will not hold it against me or the website I work for.

I'm not sure if you are the "editor" who has removed my latest links to www.babynamesgarden.com, but I take serious exception to your assertions that the site does not provide original research. In fact, it does, and in fact, it is one of the few baby names sites on the internet that does. In several sections of Wikipedia dealing with baby names you have removed citations to BabyNameGarden, while leaving in place citations to utter garbage. Do what you will, but don't pretend you have actually read, or understood, the cited material. Case in point #1: I posted citations to the excellent discussion about the top 100 baby names of the 20th century on Baby Names Garden. For your information, anyone who understands baby names and how they are reported in the US can tell you that that material was extremely time-consuming to put together. It involved massaging a lot of information in a database, not just pulling it from the Social Security Site. The Social Security site does not publish the info in that format -- go take a look before you ditch original research like that. The exact same issue occurred with citation to the Baby Names Garden report on unisex baby names -- again, public information was taken, completely reworked, in order to give people a new perspective. The new research was presented along with an original, interpretive article, and a new, ten year trend survey. And what did you do? Dumped the link, claiming it was not original material. Well dude, it was. You may enjoy the petty officiousness that comes with your Wikipedia editorial control, but at the end of the day, it doesn't change the basic fact -- you were wrong. I reacted rather viciously and as you have gathered, I did so because I knew I was about to watch all of my hard work go down the tube. It means a lot to me to know that someone out there has taken the time to reflect and empathize.
With regards to your first suggestion, I would appreciate it if you could ask the closing Admin to move the article into my user space for me instead of trying to do it myself. My guess is I probably won't get the same reaction that you will. Not only do you understand the boundaries, requirements, and goals of Wikipedia better than I, but you haven't flamed the entire place recently with your personal blow torch like I have.
And I will also consider your suggestion to begin a WikiProject on community radio or something similar. It's a reasonable idea that I obviously wasn't aware of.

external links removal[edit]
Hi again. I got your message regarding us "spamming" wikipedia. I disagree that posting a link to a 300+ word sewing dictionary is spamming. Our site is educational, doesnt sell any products, makes no money, and is purely a site where people come for sewing information. You've left a link to another sewing dictionary (feed terms) - so if you remove our sewing dictionary (which is the biggest sewing dictionary in the entire internet) then I'd appreciate you remove the other companies external link. We were the first group to post a link to a sewing dictionary - but you've removed ours only, not the other group. Same goes for the other sewing links that are in the "external link" category - I find it discriminating that you remove our site but not other sites which "sell products" - we're not pushing products - we're just here to help people. I don't consider our site as spamming, just a link to further sewing information. If you remove our link then I appreciate if you remove the other sewing links who are out to make money by selling products (ie industrialsewmachine) - they sell products - we don't - so how are we spamming by providing an educational dictionary of sewing terms???? I try to be consistent in evaluating links, but do not always look at all the links on a page when removing one the ones that most clearly contravene of our guidelines. The sewing.com link has been added by numerous IP addresses, all of whom appear to be editing Wikipedia only to add those links - this meets our definition of spamming. Our guidelines also expressly ask users not to post links to sites they are connected to. And sites that are added in that manner without approval from regular, unconnected editors of the article will be removed when found. Don't know how you folk keep an eye on actual threads on pages here but you may care to take a look at this. It shows you the most recent post on a thread and clicking takes you to the section. University of Dreams[edit]
I am a bit concerned that the page University of Dreams is being considered for deletion. It is being targeted as "Advertising Material", when clearly all the information posted is cited back to credible sources such as Forbes, National Public Radio, Inc 5000 and many more not included. To show objectivity while increasing the credibility for the source, I included 10-15 different internal links of speakers who are members of University of Dreams and have pages on Wikipedia themselves.
Additionally, I feel like there are certain competitors who are trying to discredit who University of Dreams is by flagging that page to be removed, when they themselves have cites that are 100 times more of an advertisement and their pages are not being targeted (i.e., InRoads, CEA, Google).
Lastly, instead of deletion, (because all of the information comes from citable sources mentioned above) I am open for feedback on how to improve the posting.

Microfinance[edit]
Dear Siobhan: I sense that you are as frustrated as I am with both the haphazard evolution and the self-promotionalism of many pages on microfinance and microcredit. Over the past few months I've created or revised a few underpinning pages (solidarity lending, ROSCA etc) and by January I'm going to try to find the time to move the microfinance page up a notch, while at least getting microsavings started (very much overdue ... I have been waiting for a key book in the mail for the longest time ...). I mention this in case you may be planning more aggressive action with this page in the near future. - Hi again. I posted a new draft last night and it was taken down within 10 minutes ("revert to a stable non-commercial version"). I have to say I've a put a lot of work into this and having it called 'commercial' seems very unfair. The link to the Microfinance Gateway of CGAP -- easily the best site on the web for non-commercial research and a virtually infinite range of views and studies on microfinance -- has now been blacklisted. The administrator who took it down would seem more comfortable with the current Wiki article on microcredit -- which is essentially a shopping list of 10 or so MFIs and descriptions of what they do. My new draft remained as faithful as practical to the old version, keeping most of the material that not was obviously promotional in nature. It focuses on
- recent studies of what poor people actually need (a wide range of financial services, not just credit)
- the current scale and scope and microfinance world-wide
- the evolution and rationale behind the "inclusive financial systems" approach that has helped propel the shift from microcredit to a more balance form of microfinance in recent years
- the range of diverse institutional forms that have evolved historically to meet the demand for microfinance, and how the "inclusive systems" approach supports their development
I did remove the large introductory section on history. I wrote that myself a few months ago, but on reflection I think there should be a brief section on history in the main article, and a separate 'microfinance history' article. This would better serve the overall goal.
- Please review my draft and tell me what I need to change to make it non-commercial, and how (if at all) I can make a useful contribution to Wikipedia with it or a suitably revised version. It is precisely a 'stable, non-commercial version' I was attempting to create -- one that is structured, researched and credible enough to resist random insertions of "the world's most famous business magazine, Forbes recognized NGO X for this" and NGO Y has been the fastest growing in Country Z's history". Surfrider Foundation November 20th!!![edit]
If I added 2 links:(1) Project Blue (http://www.betruetoblue.com) & (2) 5% Blue (http://www.5percentblue.com) on the Surfrider Foundation's page, why was Project Blue left up but 5% Blue taken down? Both are programs directly sponsored by Surfrider to generate additional funding resources? And if "External Links" is an inappropriate heading... could we add a "Also See" and place the two links below that? If not, could I make a new page for the two programs listed above? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I'm a HUGE supporter of the Surfrider Foundation and I've never added anything to Wikipedia (besides today) and I'd really like to make this contribution. - Unfortunately, you added links to a number of articles with only passing relevance to the surfrider foundation. And it looks like the other website you mentioned is just another "retail partnership" that was an ad on the foundation's front page, not a program of the organization itself. I understand your frustration in having links removed, but commercial links are not what Wikipedia's about. Fair use rationale for Image:QEII-logo.gif[edit]

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Baby Panda photo[edit]
