Not all galleries are random
Hi, I don't agree with your reversion of my gallery here. IMHO a gallery of labelled images is an excellent way to illustrate an article about a national park. The images aren't "random" - they illustrate the breadth of flora, fauna and landscapes within the park. I don't think a simple link to Commons does that justice - I doubt that link ever gets clicked, and of course it takes you to a truly "random" listing.

Kennedy Highway article
Hello Shiftchange, regarding your edit on 21 Sept 2012 to Kennedy Highway, I am wondering if the sentence expresses an opinion, quote "Development of the road would allow for the transport of products...", especially regarding the referenced ABC story. Although I agree with the sentiments expressed, I do not think it is a neutral point of view. If the sentence said "Development of the road is planned for etc." then it would be a statement of fact.

We are building an encyclopedia here so really it is not an appropriate question to ask. The article history and your contributions page shows your exact contribution so any assessment can be made regardless of what other changes are made to the article. I'm really sorry about that, I wasn't planning on doing it - I was trying to save my work that I had been doing and it came up with your changes and I didn't know what to do so that I could see my new additions - I am still a newby. Once again I apologise, I realise that wikipedia is set up so everyone can contribute which is why I hadn't meant to push save until I had finished. I wasn't aware that there is a way to see select only the contributions made by one person and I just panicked. Very sorry, please revert your additions if you want though with my continued edits to the article they may be further changed. I am actually starting to enjoy the process and was even planning on maybe contributing more after this assignment, since I have access to proper resources through uni, and I would hate to think I have upset a longterm contributor this early on in the piece. Check the View history tab next to Edit at the top of the page. Check the circle below the edit you want to see and then click next to the edit and then press the compare selected revisions to view the dif. We only capitalise proper nouns in headings, the National Parks of Queensland navigation template goes after the external links section, which would be under the references section if there was one. I made the references list two columns and removed the stub template at the bottom of the page because it was no longer a stub. No-one expects you to learn it all immediately but if you go over the Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Layout page, for example, or refer to it when needed, it will start to sink in. Two other things. Galleries of random images are discouraged. Best to place the images as close to related text as possible. The Under Construction template is meant for articles that are being worked on and yet you haven't contributed to it for nearly 24 hours. I will probably begin working on it by Wednesday as that has left you ample time to make your mark. No worries I will be finished by Tuesday night, all things going according to plan, as I am on a field trip for the next week. Appreciate the heads up, I will make sure that I make a copy of my version into word for additional submission to my lecturer in case they aren't wikipedia-savvy either. I really never intended/meant to claim ownership even if that's how it came across, but I do apologise for this mis-venture. It is something I will be mentioning to my lecturer as the appropriate etiquette for wikipedia use is just as important as all the more technical aspects and should have been addressed with the giving of the assignment, along with how to deal with editing over a work in progress.
I have removed the gallery as you suggested and fixed up the excessive use of capitals in my headings so hopefully it's looking less amateurish. I still have a bit to hash through tomorrow but it should be all my contributions to this article should be done by tomorrow night. Removing links -
Hi, I noticed that you have removed a link off the article Wind power in Australia labelling it as against the Wikipedia policy though the link seemed genuine to the article? Anyway since you want to keep the article top notch, half the links on that page are irrelevant or dead. If your gonna do your job, do it bloody right. Yet on the article Gladstone Power Station you have left a link "Wesfarmers page on Curragh mine" that seems completely unrelated and is also a dead link. I don't understand the logic in removing something more appropriate and leaving something completely useless and unrelated on the page. It is because I used the one click rollback method to revert the edit. I choose at that time to not go through and check the other links. Please, if you see a link not belonging remove it or if it is dead find its new address or just remove it. Rollbacking is not an ideal way to improve things generally but is used for quick reverts. I myself pointed out to another experienced editor just last week that they had added incorrect formatting when all they were doing was reverting an edit to its previous state before it was vandalised without spending the extra time improving the article further. That's understandable. My point being why had the link been allowed in the first place if it doesn't follow policy? A few days back I had discovered the energy link whilst researching for my thesis and thought it was a pretty handy source of info relating to live energy generation. I was quite disappointed to find that yesterday, I went to reaccess the page & it had been removed. Its quite absurd to not be associated and I think Wikipedia need to review their policy! I commonly rely on Wikipedia for research but this has degraded my impression considering out of date useless references are used yet accurate data sources are commonly removed. This isn't the first time I've witnessed this.

Adding external links is not important here. It is a very minor concern of mine. I might add an external link other than an official website about 1 in every 1,000 edits. That's fair and understandable, but if data is unsuitable for incorporation into an article, that's what a thought the "external links" section was for. I noticed you removed the "needs references" template on Elizabeth Street, Brisbane. To which, I have to say "yes" and "no". I did add a bunch of references when I added in the heritage listings (I'm on a quest to get everything in the Queensland Heritage Register at least red-linked on Wikipedia, and then hopefully at least a stub for each of them), so it does have references for my additions, but the pre-existing text is still as unreferenced as it was before. I'm never quite sure what to do in that situation myself with those "needs references" templates (open to your advice). Aside, I don't know if the Queensland heritage register articles are of interest to you at all (but I can see you are Brisbane-based like me so thought you might be), but I've been doing a bit of lobbying to try to get the Qld Govt to make the heritage register suitably CC-licensed so I can just copy-and-paste some content straight into Wikipedia, which would be a much faster way to populate those articles than rewriting everything. Article Feedback Tool update
Hey Shiftchange. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.
We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Regarding you recent changes to the Bushland article.
It appears that you have some specific interest in on project in Brisbane that is tangentialy related to the article. I assume we both agree that we can't and shouldn't include similarly long paragraphs on every project around the world, producing an article that would be hundreds of thousands of words in length. As such the Brisbane project material is clearly being given undue weight and is eligible for removal. More specifically, I can't see why the population of one mammal species in one tiny area is notable enough for inclusion at all in an article about bushland.
Perhaps you would be better off starting a separate article on the project that interests you.
In terms of my deleting material, Wikipedia policy is that l unreferenced material can be deleted. I hardly think that removing challenged material after ~12 months in unseemly. Similarly with removing you additions, WP:BRD applies. If you have an issue, it's up to you to take it to the talk page. We shouldn't just be leaving inappropriate material in an article just because it's short. I have no intention at all to promote a commercial website on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_Bay-Burnett. The website I would like to link to is a local government website. It will be live within a week. This is the link to the website: http://www.widebayburnett.qld.gov.au/Home.aspx. It is a project of the Wide Bay Regional Organisation of Councils (http://www.wbbroc.org.au/). This website has the logo of the http://www.widebayburnett.qld.gov.au/Home.aspx website on the top left corner and the link will be active as soon as the website is live. Because you have a link to the WBBROC I thought it would be appropriate to add the link to the new WBBROOC website about the Wide Bay Burnett Region. We are contracted to develop this website by the Regional Economic Development Advisory Committee.
I'm an innocent bystander in the matter but I would have deleted it too. There's a few of reasons that I see for this course of action. Firstly that the site doesn't yet exist (so not helpful to the reader and no way for other editors to evaluate its relevance). Secondly the overtly promotional "perfect place at a perfect pace" suggests that the site will be promotional rather than factual). And I guess the fact you put it first in the list suggests a certain desire to push your content (again suggesting that the benefit to you or your clients is the primary motivation not the best interests of wikipeda). So you might remove it? Its not too bad or not as bad as some sites which prominently feature a limited set of accommodation offerings or tour companies and nearly always mention a "vibrant community". It does have a similar look to those kind of sites which so often get added to articles about coastal places. Since it is region-wide initiative with council support instead of say a chamber of commerce site I will not be removing it. I would like to contribute to further evolution of this article towards the standard of "Good Article" and my thoughts for work required are as follows:
A map or satellite image which shows location of key places around the Bay today
In the physical geography section some mention of tides in the bay and perhaps extreme weather events
The early history could be expanded a bit including more detail on aboriginal history pre European exploration
The European history section should include a little more information on whaling and dugonging and the penal colony including the prison on St Helena
A section about economic uses of the bay e.g. fishing, transport,tourism etc
The recreation section could be expanded a little and a couple of images are need to support this e.g. Manly Boat harbour/marina and perhaps yachts racing
Some authoritatively sourced elaboration on expected impacts of climate change
Flora and fauna should include images of a dugong, and a turtle, preferably ones from Moreton Bay. The section should also have more information about non vertebrates. Given that the Wild Guide To Moreton Bay published by the Queensland Museum contains so much information on flora and fauna it will be challenging to keep this section brief.
Possibly, there is a need for a short section on cultural references but right now I can't think of what would go in it.
The article will benefit generally from improved citation of sources and perhaps tightening up of some wording
As you have previously noted, some existing content is more news content than encyclopediac in nature so some pruning will probably be required
On the subject of images, I have in response to your comment looked at a few other articles on broadly similar subjects to get a sense of how a good article uses images, I think that the following all provide some inspiration: River Thames, Venice, Yellowstone National Park, Manchester Ship Canal and Chesapeake Bay. So I agree that the article will need to be less packed with images and I think that it will be quite easy to weed out a few as the editing work outlined above progresses.

Hi Shiftchange, thanks for looking at the Queensland Council of Unions page. My reversal of your edit was unintentional in the sense I didn't realise it was an edit, I thought I had just made a mistake. I put some notes about this on the page appended to your comments. I'm included to agree with you on the external links, not only if it's generally considered to not a wikipedia thing to do, but also because external links go bad over time. I am a member of Wikimedia Australia and would like to help with the Labour Organisations Portal and the Queensland Portal. My aim with the QCU page was simply to improve it, because it had no references and one of those banners saying it should be improved. Capitalising (Australian) "Indigenous"
Hi Shiftchange. As you may have noticed, discussion of whether "Indigenous" should be capitalised when referring to an Australian ethnic category has become rather strenuous - I wonder whether you could assist.
Now the two discussions are cross-cutting each other unproductively. Within this there is a conflict, in my view counter-productive, between some Australian users (Tullyis, Clare. and myself) and some North Americans, one of whom has perhaps become a WP:GRIEFER.
Without asking you to take any side, but noting your experience and presuming that you might have an interest, would you have any suggestion as to how the discussion might be brought back into focus on the original proposal? Wikiain (talk) 04:06, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
