Karl Marx[edit]

You stated in your entry that Marx "exchanged letters" with Abraham Lincoln. You cite "marxists.org" for Marx's letters, but is there evidence that Lincoln replied or even saw the letters? Camillus 19:50, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Revert in Varina Davis[edit]

If you please explain your revert on Varina Davis on the accoding talk page? Thank you very much, Enyavar (talk) 18:40, 31 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The page had been edited to the point of losing not only clarity, but incorporating editorial opinion. The former opening paragraph read, "Varina Banks Howell Davis (May 7, 1826 – October 16, 1906) was an American author who was best-known as the First Lady of the Confederate States of America, second wife of President Jefferson Davis. She held contradictory attitudes on gender, race, region, wealth, and the Confederacy itself. A dutiful obedient wife, she ignored her husband's affairs. She had accepted slavery but never was enthusiastic about secession or the Confederacy, and was not highly visible during the war. She shocked "Lost Cause" sensibilities by moving to New York after her husband's death and associating with the hated Yankees."
Hated Yankees? The whole tenor of the article was not only tainted, but cut out key elements of her life. The original article is at least a third longer, is well-balanced, and more accurate.
Yes, as I discussed in the according talk page of Davis, this opening statement which was added in April 2010 by Rjensen, has to be contested and removed. However, your reset not only removed this dubious opening statement, but cut the article by a fourth, removed heading structures and essential linkage to other articles. Just look at all the edits that were added AFTER April 2010 - are they ALL inaccurate and unbalanced? I suggest to undo your reset, and then changing/deleting POV statements where necessary.
Myself, I didn't delete that opening statement some time ago, since I read up on her life, and found this statement correct. It says: Confederation veterans, who hated Yankees, were shocked when Davis associated with Yankees. I agree of course, that the statement provokes a POV, and such details as «"Lost Cause" sensibilities» can (and should!) be addressed later on in the article. CJTF-HOA[edit]

While your experiences at CJTF-HOA are appreciated, Wikipedia cannot rely on first-hand knowledge or WP:OR. We need secondary WP:RS to verify what is published. True, much of the Camp Lemmonier article lacks citations, but adding unverified info doesn't help. PS: I served there too. And I earned the Desert Scorpion badge! --S.
