Done for a while...[edit]

After having served as a faithful editor on Wikipedia for over 4 years and amassing nearly 10,000 edits, most of which I'd consider valuable, I've decided to just stop. There was a time when I'd watch over 100 articles at a time and view every single edit done to those articles to make sure they're all in the best interest of improving Wikipedia, but over the past year or so I've stepped back significantly. I've learned a lot of policies and procedures on Wikipedia (and even helped create and modify some), but the number of people who completely disregard some of the 5 pillars of Wikipedia and then argue belligerently about it and don't want to try to see things from a perspective other than their own has grown to a point where it no longer becomes feasible for me to waste my time dealing with it.

I've tried, and possibly succeeded in some areas, to make Wikipedia a better and more organized place, but sometimes it's those few bad examples in the crowd that really gnaw at the back of my brain and make me think "why?". Why am I bothering? Why do I care so much? Why do I keep pushing forward? The answer used to be because, simply, I'm an organized and intelligent internet programmer. And what's better than having a free website that allows you to edit the core coding of the website and has all the information you would ever want. Wikipedia was the never-ending book I could never stop reading; it was the programming project that would forever need new coding. And I felt like the perfect fit.

But time and time again, I'm met with the type of person that wants to do things only their way, and I'm fine with that, but who can't seem to discuss things with civility and rationally, and my personality being the way it is, I come across looking like the bad guy, and I just don't feel the joy in editing I once had.

And so I say goodbye, at least for a while. I feel one day Wikipedia will be calling my name and I can dive back in head first. But until that day....

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
