MOS:BETTER listed at Redirects for discussion

Resolved
 – Responded at the RfD nomination.

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect MOS:BETTER. Since you had some involvement with the MOS: redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion (if you have not already done so). Mhiji (talk) 16:02, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Sorry I didn't complete the last nomination. I've nominated it again (correctly this time...) but you're more than welcome to propose that the page is adopted as part of the MOS too. Mhiji (talk) 16:11, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Noted. Thanks for the heads-up. I've responded (in qualified favor of deletion), and also started the elevate-to-MoS-status discussion at WT:WPMOS. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 06:26, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Invitation to join WikiProject United States

Resolved
 – I have to respectfully decline, due to lack of time.

Hello, SMcCandlish/Archive 50! WikiProject United States, an outreach effort supporting development of United States related articles in Wikipedia, has recently been restarted after a long period of inactivity. As a user who has shown an interest in United States related topics we wanted to invite you to join us in developing content relating to the United States. If you are interested please add your Username and area of interest to the members page here. Thank you!!! --Kumioko (talk) 03:35, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks, but I'll have to pass - I'm in too many projects as it is. I helped get the New Mexico project rolling, and did some minor work on US-related templates, but that's about it, really. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 05:00, 5 January 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.

Participation
GOCE January 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.

Progress report

We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.

Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Nomination for deletion of {{Other uses6}}

Resolved
 – Responded at the TfD discussion.

Template:Other uses6 has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Thank you.. (eh, the "thank you" is USA automated. I prefer to say: [blank]). -DePiep (talk) 23:34, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, I don't like the "Thank you" stuff, myself. I strongly suspect it was added by a Canadian, actually. Americans are generally not that polite! — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 03:22, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
Oh yes, these Canadians. They still have a queen, don't they? -04:11, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

When I lived up there I discovered that not all of them are royalists at all, though. Some of them really want to be done with that. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 06:35, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Lindrum Book

Resolved
 – Source obtained.

Hi Stanton,

You may remember we had a wee chat last September about Walter Lindrum. I found the Ricketts book in a secondhand bookshop in Melbourne today, but unfortunately it came in at $40, so I didn't buy it. First place I've seen it though, and I have looked around a bit for it recently. It was a hardback version, and appeared to be in very good condition.

Also got myself up to the Melbourne General Cemetery a while back, but no luck finding his headstone, unfortunately through a series of muckups (works in progress, locked gates, detours...) by the time I got to the general office they had just closed for the day, and I haven't got back since. I did get some photos of the Hotel Lindrum though, which I'm yet to upload. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know about the book and see if you were interested in it. Cheers, --jjron (talk) 14:25, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the note! If the book is still available, I'd take it for that price, no problem. Shipping on something like that is usually around $12-25, depending on weight, surface vs. airmail, etc., but that would still be a far more affordable total than what Amazon.com wants. Just noticed there are two "books" about him now appearing on Amazon, but they are actually just re-printings of the WP article! Sheesh. One for over US$45. Rip off! Too bad about the grave site! That must've been frustrating.
Yeah, checking the Aust Post rates you could be about on the money re postage. I suspect it'd be unlucky for the book to have to sold since I saw it (esp. at that price) but I guess you never know who's looking; shame, if it had been more around $20 I would have grabbed it on the spot (wow, just checked Amazon - the one copy they have is $147.85!; if I'd known that I would have grabbed it on the spot at $40). The trick will be getting back into the city as I won't be down here much longer and have a bit on, and I wouldn't want to leave it for three months or so till next I'm down. Haha, just saw the Wikipedia ripoff one selling at $45 - the only question is how they got 78 pages out of it! --jjron (talk) 16:37, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
Email sent. --jjron (talk) 05:42, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks again for your time and effort in helping me obtain that source. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 16:21, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

Pouring you a cup of Gatorade?

Resolved
 – Article seems to be stable now.

Hi there SmcCandlish, I noticed that you have been among the most active and helpful on the Gatorade article in the recent past, so I thought I'd reach out to you here. I have proposed a revision on the Gatorade article Talk page and thought you might like to weigh in. I see that your status is busy at the moment, so if you are not able to do so there are no expectations. Just thought I'd extend a note your way due as you seem to have shown a continued interest in the article. Cheers, Jeff Bedford (talk) 14:15, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Thanks. Is this still an active draft, or has it been merged into the "live" article? — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 01:16, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
P.s.: I'm not very invested in that article/topic at all, really. I was just bored and doing article clean-up "gnome" edits. — SMcCandlish Talk⇒ ʕ(Õلō Contribs. 17:14, 18 February 2011 (UTC)
Ah yes, that revision was recently moved into the "live" article; however I remain broadly open to further input. The only last thing that I have been meaning to do is to get ahold of the current logo in .svg format. It looks just slightly blurry in its current state. I haven't yet been able to figure out how to convert image files into .svg (vector) format quite yet, so I am planning on asking the folks over at Wikiproject Images and Media. Thanks for the friendly response. Cheers, Jeff Bedford (talk) 08:36, 19 February 2011 (UTC)
