R-Sig[edit]

Hi. I noticed that you were thinking of a new sig, with R as a catchy thing. I have something; I´ll post it here to not ruin the page history of the Single letter group:

Note: The links in black would link to your talk page. TomasBat 01:23, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestions. I used one of them which I liked. --(Review Me) R you talking to me?Contribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 01:41, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Aquarium Fishes newsletter[edit]

Hi R, I think the July issue is pretty much ready for delivery. The discussion is blank just because there hasn't been much things to discuss this month. But if something comes up, we can always put it in the template later. So it's ok. You can deliver it anytime. Thanks :) --Melanochromis 05:56, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature[edit]

Hi R, with the kindest of respect to you, do you think your signature is a little overlinked? it links to your edit review, your userpage, your talk page, your contributions and Special:Emailuser/R, its perfectly fine just wondering what your thoughts were. The Sunshine Man is now Qst 18:12, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm...no, I don't think it's overlinked. And once my editor review is over, there will be one less link. And it's not over the actual 255 character limit, or the accepted under 4 lines. --(Review Me) R you talking to me?Contribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 18:30, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The WP:SLG history[edit]

Excuse my ignorance, but how did you remove that from the history? I feel so dumb, but I can't figure out how. Thanks. I  (said) (did) 20:25, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had an admin do it. Admins can not only delete pages. They can also just delete some revisions of the page. I just had him remove a few revisions. --(Review Me) R you talking to me?Contribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 20:28, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I thought. I was pretty sure an admin could do it, but you werent. That's where I was confused. So admins will just do that? Thats cool. I  (said) (did)
Well, it's a user subpage, which is probably the least controversial deletion. --(Review Me) R you talking to me?Contribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 20:36, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thanks for your informative answer at the help desk about administrators. Looks like one has to be familiar with the sub-culture at the Request for Admin. in order to be approved. Some candidates seem like they were not completely prepared. If there is an unwritten 4,000 edit/4 month rule, it looks like I may be qualified in about 4 years at my rate of editing. Oh well, I might as well enjoy editing and, maybe, after 3-4 years I have enough edits and can consider it if it's something that I want. Polounit 03:18, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adminship Nom[edit]

Thanks for the kind offer! However, I do not wish to accept at this time because another person has offered to nominate me at a later date. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 16:13, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My recent RfB[edit]

Thank you so much for your participation in my recent RfB. Though it closed with 72% support (below the required 90%), I'm still quite pleased at the outpouring of support shown by a fair percentage of the community.

I'm currently tabulating and calculating all opposing and neutral arguments to help me better address the community's concerns about my abilities as a bureaucrat. If you'd like, you can follow my progress (and/or provide additional suggestions) at User:EVula/admin/RfB notes. Thanks again! EVula // talk // // 04:34, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A small problem with the July Aquarium Fishes Newsletter[edit]

Hi R. Thanks again for the delivery of the newsletter. The July issue was quite different technically as I added a new template within it and it was quite problematic. Anyway, while I was fixing my mistake, I found out that your bot also did another mistake. There was no space between the section headline and the newsletter template when your bot were delivering, so when the newsletter recipients try to edit the section, it would say that "No such section. You tried to edit a section that doesn't exist..." But this is not a big problem though as I think it's rare for anyone to want to edit or reply to the newsletter section on his own talk page, but I thought I should just let you know anyway. The way to fix this is just to separate the template from the section headline (just click "enter" to begin a new line); here you can see how it can be fixed. Cheers, --Melanochromis 09:21, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, the last </small> after the bot signature was missing causing discussions after the newsletter to become small. I just finished insert </small> in all AQF members talk pages. --Melanochromis 19:47, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Article writing[edit]

Hey there R! Thanks for stopping by, I don't mind at all! In fact, you should feel free to post a note here whenever you please! Thanks for taking the time out to re-iterate your position that article writing is unrelated to adminship. I happen to strongly disagree with this philosophy, but no worries, of course. To each his own, eh mate? With regards to my comment on your request, the article writing, or as I think I put it "encyclopedic contributions" is only a part of why I think you're a bit unsuitable for extra buttons at the moment, so give my comment another look. Thanks again for the note, mate gaillimhConas tá tú? 20:33, 7 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies[edit]

Unfortunately, your request for adminship did not reach consensus. Please try again after addressing the concerns raised in opposition. I noticed you sent me a message on IRC, but logged off before I noticed; feel free to contact me anytime. Also, don't be discouraged by users who have problem with your age: I'm 18 right now, but I've been with Wikipedia since 2003, when I was 13, and became an admin at 15. Good luck next time. Andre (talk) 11:02, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did oppose at this time, but please don't be disheartened. There is a lot of good things to focus on, and a lot of excellent suggestions. My first RFA failed (at 71%), and the best thing I learned from it was that the advice in the opposes was (mostly) good advice. I'm sure you'll be an admin in a few months. Neil  12:28, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
R, I'm sorry about this. I don't suppose I can fault the bureaucrat too much, and I did tell you it would be safer to wait a little while longer before you ran again; but I also thought you were qualified to help the project as an administrator in the areas you were interested in, and in fact I had no doubt about it or I wouldn't have nominated you twice. My personal opinion is that the RfA process, which generally does know best in these things, has made a mistake this time. Please don't be too demoralized (I know that is easier advice to give than to follow), and do stick around and keep editing; I suppose we will try this again, and goldarnit it we will make an administrator out of you yet. Newyorkbrad 12:53, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
R, I am very sorry about your RFA. I voted for your RFA, and I wish you luck in the future. Politics rule 15:20, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Count on my very strong support again next time R. I'm going to send you an E-mail soon too, so look out for that. Acalamari 22:24, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Note that R has noted above that he is away on a trip for a couple of days without Internet access, so please don't anyone read anything into his failure to respond right away. Newyorkbrad 22:39, 11 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Hey R, I know that you might be feeling a little blue right now, but I hope that in time you'll feel better and maybe, at some point, consider running again. I know that you might be feeling a lot of things - maybe shame, maybe anger, maybe feeling like you've let down your nominators, but I know for a fact that there are many of us who respect your work around here, enjoy your presence, and think that you'd make a wonderful admin at some point in the future. Please don't feel bad - keep your good work up, and I hope to see you around, as always. Take good care, ~ Riana 05:00, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just write content. That's all people expect. You can't be a good admin without substantial experience writing content. This is the lesson you should have learned from your last nom. Everyking 06:00, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your RFA[edit]

Hey R, I just want to say that I am sorry your RFA did not pass, and that I think that if you address the concerns of the opposes you will pass any future RFA with flying colours. Good luck and all the best, -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 05:27, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

R, I regret that people are placing such an emphasis on article writing - I'm confident that you'd make a good administrator regardless. Since helping write articles is important, I suggest you do some general cleanup in articles: improving internal consistency and clarity is a helpful start if you can't think of anything about which to write. When your next RfA comes up, please spam me for (co-)nomination (if you like) and support :) Nihiltres(t.l) 01:57, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template Substitution with AWB[edit]

Hello, R. I am learning how to use AWB and how to subst templates, but I am no good with technology and need help. What I do when I open AWB is that I select "What transcludes here" (or something like that), I type the name of a template (usually {{uw-vandalism1}}), I click "Make list", I filter to only user talk, and then click "Start". This means that I do what RBot does, only one template at a time. Is there any way I can do this faster? I try following the instructions on your bot's userpage, but I am not able to follow them. Can you help? --Eddie 16:46, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of making the list from what transcludes, make the list "Category" and put in "User warning templates". Hit make list. Then filter to templates. Then right click on any of the templates and hit select all. When they're all highlighted, right click again and go to "make from" -> what transcludes here (not the make list, on the right click menu. Then it takes a little lesss than 5 minutes to find every transcluion. Then filter to user talk and run. Hope this helps, --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 17:04, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. Also, sorry about your RfA. Happy editing! --Eddie 17:07, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother you, but I can't seem to find "make from" -> what transcludes here on the right click menu. I also can't find it on the manual. Am I doing something wrong? --Eddie 01:42, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oops...it's "Add selected to list" -> what transcludes here. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 01:45, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great. Thanks! Enjoy your vacation! --Eddie 01:46, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother you again, but I click "Add selected to list" -> what transcludes here, I wait a couple of minutes, and then I get a message that says "Unexpected Error: The operation has timed out". I think my computer's causing this. Can you help me? --Boricuaeddie hábleme 14:33, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Solved! I'm now editing at 7 edits/minute. I'm thinking of creating a bot account similar to RBot for when you're not around. Should I do it? --Boricuaeddie hábleme 17:19, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unusual Adoption Request[edit]

Hi! Im an English teacher in Toluca Mexico (west of Mexico City). My Advanced B classes will be contributing to Wikipedia as the focus of their English course for Fall 2007. I am looking for people who would like to mentor my students (who will be working in groups) as they do the following assignments: Edit and article (adding a citation), writing a stub with a citation, translating an English language article for Spanish Wikipedia and for the final project, writing a full article for English Wiki (they can expand on the stub mentioned previously). What I would like to do is put a list of "mentors/adopters" on my talk page as a kind of short cut for my students, who have limited time to get things done. The semester begings Aug 6, but the real Wikipedia work wont begin until the beginning of Sept. If you would like to add your name to my list, please go to my talk page and add it there, perhaps with a short introduction, if you like.

Thank you!

My bot does not leave messages. User:L (usurped) left that message. My bot just substitutes the template for the template text. (it shows the same in reading mode). --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 11:39, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly is the point in having templates if your bot just substitutes the text? DanielPenfield 22:33, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Because user warning templates are supposed to be substitued. Most templates are not, such as the ones used in articles. --(Review Me) R ParlateContribs@ (Let's Go Yankees!) 23:41, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
