Senior Wranglers since 1910[edit]

Hello. Thanks for taking an interest in the Senior Wrangler article. I wasn't the editor who anonymously deleted your name from the list (in fact, I reverted one such deletion) but I understand why they did so. The main problem is that statements of this kind need to be supported by a reference to a suitably authoritative source. For pre-1910 Wranglers, this is straightforward, because Venn's Alumni Cantabrigienses contains all the necessary information and is an appropriately scholarly work. But in 1910 the University stopped publishing the class lists in merit order, so it's not only harder to find out the names of the Senior Wranglers from then on, but also there's a general lack of authoritative sources that we can cite.

Many of the names on the list, while doubtless correct, either don't have supporting citations at all, or only have citations to insufficiently authoritative sources. In one case, the reference given was to a self-published source, which when checked didn't actually support the claim, and which has now disappeared entirely. In such cases, Wikipedia policy is clear: the unsupported material may be challenged or deleted without notice (usually I just tag with ^{[citation needed]} but some people opt for deletion instead). In your case, the only source currently given is to your LinkedIn profile page, which unfortunately is considered as a self-published source, so if you can suggest a more suitable source then that would be great. One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

thanks for your pleasant message. I don't know how to deal with the editor who is being so unpleasant to me and keeps deleting my edit. I am deeply, deeply upset by what he has done, and how he has treated me, which is my definition of harassment, and now he is just trying to make it worse. What can I do? Can anyone help?

OK I've done some checking. It appears that there is a disagreement over the content of the article Senior Wrangler (University of Cambridge). As has been explained elsewhere, all material in the encyclopedia must be based on verifiable reliable sources. This is a pillar of Wikipedia policy so I'm sorry, but there is nothing I can really do to help you. On a brigher note, it looks as though a couple of editors may be willing to help you verify the information that you want to add to the article. Good luck!
