January songs
happy new year

colours to move forward! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:22, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt, I'm ready! Happy to have 2022 behind me. ;) --Rosiestep (talk) 20:30, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
good idea - here comes the first cat of the year (didn't let me get closer though) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:10, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
today, I point at two singers I whose performance I enjoyed. - Do you think you could crop the image in the nomination for Concentricities for DYK (of the the chemist)? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:32, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
Crop this image (Graham Waterhouse, Limes Tower, Taunusstein.jpg)? --Rosiestep (talk) 19:51, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
Oh, my bad, wrong composition, Alchymic Quartet, File:Szydlo at RI.jpg. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:00, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
Sorry, Gerda Arendt. The crop tool isn't available on EN-WP (or if it is available, I don't have it enabled), which is where the "Szydlo at RI" photo is sitting. If/When it gets moved to Wikimedia Commons, I can take another look. Just let me know. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:19, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for looking into it. - Today, less pointy than last time: a composition from a remarkable 2022 concert, the sad record of four articles about people who recently died on the Main page at the same time, and singing for Epiphany --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:49, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
Today's featured article is Osbert Parsley, not by me but Amitchell125 where I commented, including the beginning of my songs. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:04, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, 26 years out of 50, wow. I imagine loyalty, devotion, happiness. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:43, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
exactly! - In my second choir (which came first), it's 38 years out of 161, most of them with the same conductor --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:54, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
I'm on vacation, - click on songs! (no cat good enough yet, sorry) - I tell my own stories now, instead of relying on DYK. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:58, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
Hope you have a wonderful vacation, Gerda Arendt. I read Guido Dessauer's article; nice to learn about him. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:48, 15 January 2023 (UTC)
Splendid! Even a cat by now (and 2days of pics missing, but I'm too tired after climbing Benejaro. Your precious anniversary, remember, 11! --— Preceding unsigned comment added by Gerda Arendt (talkcontribs) 15:45, January 21, 2023 (UTC)
Oh my, Gerda! It's already another year... and #11... thank you for the memory. It's still precious to me. ;) The La Palma photos are breath-taking. Still haven't made it to that locale but it's on my bucket list. And, of course, one of the el gatos made it to the top of this page today. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:54, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
another cat! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 00:01, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
The cats are so cute! But, Gerda Arendt, I love best the food pics; everything looks so yummy! --Rosiestep (talk) 00:19, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
Many more pics, of Tuesday. Today: food food food, to be uploaded later. Yesterday I met a black cat but looking a mixture of frightened and aggressive, very shortly so. - Today's topics here: Elena Manistina, or: why Tchaikovsky's The Enchantress isn't on the Main page, and Clytus Gottwald, for whom I made a DYK in 2012. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:43, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, as you are aware, I stopped participating in the DYK process a few years ago when the experience became less enjoyable. I do appreciate, however, when others nominate an article I've created, which is how my first DYK occurred. Food food food; looking forward to seeing those pics. Today's kitten here on this page is the opposite of frightened or aggressive; enjoy! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:59, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
I'd nominate if you point out what. - One more day of pics, - there were cats around the fish restaurant, including one licking the plate of a guest who had left, but all too fast and below tables of other guests. The last three days will take more time - back home --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:12, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
Lovely pics. Must have been a great vacation! --Rosiestep (talk) 00:49, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
2 more days, 1 cat, 6-course meal --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:55, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
What a tasty-looking meal! Happy to have the one of your cats make an appearance here. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:43, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
... which makes me happy! - and now the rest (one more meal and a dog) - Melitta Muszely died, RIP - the other story is 10 years old OTD ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:32, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

Belated

Belated Happy New Year. I am back in circulation in Wiki from this year. Scarf and Sahadeva are my new articles in editing stage. Posted Summer Palace of Peter the Great for GA.Nvvchar. 04:16, 18 January 2023 (UTC)

Nvvchar, Happy 2023 to you, too! You have no idea how happy I am to know that you are back. Elated! I'll check out those articles you mention. I've been doing translations from French WP this month; it's good exercise for my brain. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:48, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. My grand daughter is now learning French. May be some day she would be a traslator too.Nvvchar. 07:41, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
Nvvchar, that's wonderful. I hope she enjoys it. My mom was fluent in French and she influenced me to study French the 4 years I was in high school. She was born in the month of January and I do FR-WP translations in January (last year, too), in her memory. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:10, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. You may like to edit and contribute to this also User:Nvvchar/sandbox, apart from the above three.Nvvchar. 04:48, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Nvvchar, I'll keep an eye on all of these. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:55, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi Rosie, I don't know if you can find anything more on this, seems on topic with the Davos annual meeting being in the town! German wikipedia has an article on Schatzalp which includes the hotel, former sanitorium and surrounding resort I think. I think the article should be named this on the hotel though, though maybe a seperate article on Schatzalp is warranted?♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:44, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi Dr. Blofeld. I think 3 articles are warranted: Berghotel Schatzalp (sanatorium turned hotel), Rinerhorn [de] (mountain, which has a ski resort), and yet another one on Schatzalp [de] (recreation area). --17:00, 19 January 2023 (UTC) Dr. Blofeld - Maybe 1 more for the ski resort if it meets WP:N and there are enough WP:RS; haven't sorted that out. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:09, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
There's also Bergbahnen Rinerhorn, the ski area haha! I dunno, the Berghotel Schatzalp is a listed cultural building, so I think definitely warrants its own article. Perhaps it would be best to create a general article on Schatzalp and see what can be included in it. By the looks of it we could do with a Template:Davos and some development in this area, not unlike we did with Cortina a few years back! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:18, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Good find, Bergbahnen Rinerhorn [de], Dr. B, so yes, that one, too. I think creating all of these articles first and then the template sounds reasonable. Wish I felt more comfortable with DE-WP translation. Might interest Ipigott? --Rosiestep (talk) 17:44, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
I'm still not fully "comfortable" with German myself! deep L is excellent for German. I'll see if I can transwiki the German article on Schatzalp soon and see how it goes. If you feel like it see what English sources you can find on the hotel, if not, don't worry about it. It was snowing here yesterday morning, and really cold today, about zero celsius, I always feel like editing things like mountain resorts when the weather is cold in December or January for some reason!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:53, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
I can't believe how much is still missing. I started Donte's in North Hollywood yesterday, which was like a world renowned jazz club in the 70s and 80s!! It's just an enormous amount of work needed everywhere I look!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:56, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Raw translation in User:Dr. Blofeld/Schatzalp. The article is a mess, I'll see what I can source and edit tomorrow. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:09, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Cool, Dr. B. I've been doing all these translations from FR-WP this month, and every article I translate into EN-WP, I see others on FR-WP that aren't on EN-WP. Even after all these years, we've a long way to go with missing articles. I do use DeepL, but I'm always a bit nervous about trusting translations where I don't have a reasonable understanding of the language, e.g., German. BTW, Nvvchar, I can't remember if you do translations from German? If so, you might be interested in the articles we're talking about here. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:11, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Yey he's back, welcome back Nvvchar, not somebody who I ever thought would return!! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:16, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Nah, looking into sources for this I'd say the hotel tends to be discussed in most, and it's only really fluff on the rest of it. I think we're better off having the overall resort and hotel in the same article. I'll redirect Schatzalp I think, it can be written to include information on the surroundings in the hotel article. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:05, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Great to see you are back editing Nvvchar. We used to have great fun editing together on everything under the sun years ago. I thought it was dreadful the way one of our admins pulled your articles to pieces. Fortunately, I don't think that kind of thing is likely to happen again. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 20:26, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, Ipigot. Nvvchar. 00:45, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
I hope not Ipigott, but perhaps Nvv should get some help with copyediting articles before they go live to avoid anybody picking on them again. The Schatzalp funicular (Davos-Schatzalp-Bahn (DSB) ) I think could potentially have its own article, history on the hotel site in English here, commons here. Maybe I will create an article on the Schatzalp area and cover the funicular in that.♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:57, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Yesterday's cantata, 300 years later - thanks for your cats! Would you like your recent composer for DYK? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:25, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi Gerda. With this link, there are 2 things I like: I liked learning about the cantata (an audition piece!), and I like seeing how you put together your "Top List". I'm curious how you choose what goes in your Top List? Maybe I will start something similar. As for Oller, as it is a translation, is it acceptable for DYK? I think in the past years, translations from other wikis weren't acceptable, but things might be different now. Anyway, thanks for noticing the article! And yes, cats. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 17:06, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you. My top list is my opposition against DYK, - selection is (you can sort by that column): TFA - DYK of 2023 (rare because I'm out) - OTD - born the day - died the day (rare because I rather celebrate birthdays) - DYK anniversary (10 preferred). - Translation is no problem for DYK, - it's still new content. I believe there was an unreferenced line, which is no problem but should not be the last one in a paragraph. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:40, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
Gerda, thanks for explaining; top list is good idea. Edited Oller; now no unref sentence as last one in a paragraph. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:42, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
Gerda, in retrospect, I'd rather that the nom be withdrawn. I'm sorry for backtracking as I realize the work you put into the article and the nom. But I can't ignore this negative, visceral reaction. Again, sorry. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:32, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't understand, but it's yours, and was closed. - Today's stories are about two pieces we sang at church, today - that's a first, and even more astonishing as I sang the Pärt for the first time, but it impressed me before enough to have written the article ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:07, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Gerda, some off-wiki harassment, ergo the decision. I found the story behind Reger's Responsories (published in Philadelphia) interesting. Coincidentally, I created an article this morning on a librarian born in that city. However, she was in Washington, D.C. by the time the Responsories were published. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:18, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
sorry for off-wiki trouble! - today a book, Alte Liebe, for Valentine --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:51, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Gerda, nice! Is there an English-language translation? --Rosiestep (talk) 14:49, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
If I knew one it would be in the article. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:10, 15 February 2023 (UTC)
Today's cat would be perfect for Earth Day (22 April)! Thank you for a great pic! - I heard the performance mentioned in my story today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:41, 16 February 2023 (UTC)
love today's as well! - music today: the regional festival - DYK of 13 years ago ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:30, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
Oh, you're right, Gerda; the leafy one would have been perfect for Earth Day. Rheingau Musik Festival: wow, nice! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:29, 18 February 2023 (UTC)
No new cat, but lambs. - My story on 24 February is about Artemy Vedel (TFA by Amitchell235), and I made a suggestion for more peace, - what do you think? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:53, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
Gerda, thank you for focusing on peace. Me, too. Today (24 Feb) marks the 1 year anniversary of the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, so I'm a bit somber. I chose today's cat as it seems majestic while supportive of peace.
With regard to censored music performed from handwritten copies, it is quite inspiring during 7 weeks without as well as the other 45. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:10, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
Great cat! I also thought of the anniversary, and also the delegate who positioned the article which was originally scheduled on 6 Feb. - I also thought about the silly infobox war which has ended silently long ago, only some missed that. It's a topic where I hope to make a difference. What do you think? Robert le diable is the latest dispute, see my talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:22, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
today: two women whose birthday we celebrate today, 99 and 90! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:07, 28 February 2023 (UTC)
Gerda - Indeed, Happy Birthday wishes to Doris Stockhausen and Elisabeth Waterhouse! --Rosiestep (talk) 17:10, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Minor request

Dear Rosie, how are you? today I created the entry Ya’ara Keydar and it's contested. Can you give your opinion, please? I explained on my talk page the notability. Tzahy (talk) 20:08, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi Tzahy, and thanks for reaching out. I reviewed the article on Ya’ara Keydar including the references. I also read the comments regarding her notability posted on your talkpage. First, in general, I'm not an expert regarding WP:BLP articles as I focus mostly on dead women. But, what's missing for me in Keydar's article is information in the lead paragraph which establishes her notability. For example, you write in your talkpage, Keydar change completely the fashion exhibitions in Israel. If there's a citation to support it, that would be a useful statement to include in the article's lead. Sorry that I can't be more helpful, but you are warmly welcome to seek additional points of view from the editors at Women in Red as some of them have great expertise with BLP notability issues. Ask here. If you haven't posted at Women in Red before, don't worry -- the responders will be calm, neutral, and will WP:AGF. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:36, 8 February 2023 (UTC)
Thank you very much Rosiestep. Tzahy (talk) 23:46, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

2023 Alaska high-altitude object

I thought this short (for now) article might interest you, in light of recent events. 2023 Alaska high-altitude object. Whatever it was, anything the Air Force shoots down is notable. It will be interesting to see how this topic, and it’s article on WP, develops. Alaska doesn’t often lead the news. I hope you are well! Juneau Mike (talk) 12:39, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

Incidentally, there was a bit of vandalism to the articles talk page. I reverted it.Juneau Mike (talk) 12:57, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi Mike and thanks for pointing me to the article. It's certainly been a really big news story. It'll be interesting to see how this all develops. I removed the stub tag. Glad you're watching for vandalism. Spring is just around the corner here; I suppose the same for you? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:08, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
The news I find out from coming here (lol). --ARoseWolf 15:32, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
I've been to Deadhorse a few times back when my ex-husband worked the oil fields. --ARoseWolf 15:36, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Hi ARoseWolf! Certainly shows how we're interlinked. And allow me to do a formal introduction, ARoseWolf, meet Juneau Mike; Mike, meet ARoseWolf. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 15:44, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
I remember Mike from the Juneau Raptor Center discussion. Not sure we ever interacted though. I did visit his talk page and I would love to collaborate on Alaska articles sometime if he likes. I'm sure he has a wealth of knowledge. I was all around Juneau growing up. We lived in Haines. My best friend outside those living with me and those here on Wikipedia still resides in Skagway. --ARoseWolf 15:54, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

my women's day story

today: where I learned opera, + 3 women -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:35, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt, what a magnificent structure. I smiled when I noticed that Dr. B created the article back in 2010. And I learned about the 3 singers. --Rosiestep (talk) 09:59, 4 March 2023 (UTC)
I love Arabian Mau1! - Just returned from a concert, all singers girls or women! - watch my talk for a new pic (not yet uploaded). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:05, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, thanks! Beautiful bokeh image; majestic cat!--Rosiestep (talk) 17:28, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

today a woman, a 2016 DYK remembered (our conductor was courageous and called her to step in for a concert on short notice, and she was interested! - only had no time that day in 2013. We got Gabriela Eibenová who was also great. Girls and women sang how Bach arranged Pergolesi's Stabat Mater to a new text paraphrasing Psalm 51, last Sunday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:45, 8 March 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, Gerda Arendt. I'll get caught up as soon as I'm back home. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:26, 9 March 2023 (UTC)
Latest singer I wrote about: Johanna Geisler, off the FAC of her famous husband. Composer Marek Kopelent died, and it's Saint Patrick's Day --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:47, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, great photo of Johanna! And yes indeed, Happy Saint Patrick's Day! I dropped my grandson off at school this morning and like him, all the children were wearing green. I don't know if it's a thing in other parts of the world, but here, if you don't wear green on St. Pat's Day, you are likely to get pinched. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:02, 17 March 2023 (UTC)
cute! - today we remember the 150th birthday of Max Reger, who saw the horrors of a world war right when it began in 1914, while others were still in high patriotic moods - your cat looks serious to match that --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:04, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, what a talented man. Indeed, the years leading up to WWI left bread crumbs of what was to be, but many missed the warning signs. Yes, serious cat pose today... almost like a still-life portrait sitter. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:18, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
BWV 1 today, and new pics, more of them - including cats! - tomorrow --Gerda Arendt (talk) 23:18, 25 March 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, Nice! I'll be back home tonight, so will check out pics tomorrow. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:13, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
nice, and I'm also back home now, sharing impressions from vacation on Madeira 20-30 March, pics now at 24 Mar from the peaks, and yes with a cat! - more to come, my favrourite "shot" close to the highest peak (while the black one on 24 was on the ocean, - that's only a short distance on that island) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:46, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, loved looking through your photos, including the black cat and the gray cat, but the scenic ones (such as: Canical, Madeira, mirador) and food (such as: Cod dish, Porto Moniz, Madeira) made me want to book a flight to Madeira! --Rosiestep (talk) 12:07, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
to tempt you more: one more day, two more cats - met the one walking on the return trip: sound asleep, nice fir but no watchful eyes and a rather ugly fence - before I do another day I want to write my woman's article who is de:Gan-ya Ben-gur Akselrod but Gan-Ya Ben-Gur Akselrod in my concert program. What do you think about the uc-lc? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:42, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, her English language website writes her name as Gan-ya Ben-gur Akselrod, so that's my recommendation. Plus, love the newest cats; I think there will be an appearance on my talkpage in future days. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:29, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello!

Nothing urgent here but is there a Women in Red bat signal? Betty Pack was a charming, young, sex-positive, good-looking, adulterous, highly intelligent woman with at least one abortion and probably a child out of wedlock. She was also, by all accounts, a bona fide hero of Allied espionage during World War II. I've done a little tidying up of her article but I would to have some more female editors aware of her and working on telling her story in a way that is misogyny-conscious if that makes sense. Is there somewhere I should comment or post to get the attention of WIR team members? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. jengod (talk) 18:40, 7 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi Jengod, and thanks for stopping by. Yes! Here's the place to post questions or ask for help with regard to women's biographies, as well as articles about women's works (e.g., the paintings they painted; the conferences they convened) or women's issues (e.g., suffrage): Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Women in Red. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 22:52, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
check! Thanks again. jengod (talk) 22:57, 7 March 2023 (UTC)
