incorrect IP blocks on Dutch Wikipedia[edit]

Dag @RonaldB. Astrojantje (talk) 08:45, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I just received your email. Thank you. Astrojantje (talk) 08:57, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RonaldBot blocked[edit]

FYI, I have blocked your RonaldBot (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · page moves · block user · block log) account. You should read the relevant automated bot policy at WP:BOT which, among other things, requires approval and a bot flag for automated accounts. This block was in response to this notification at WP:AN. —Wknight94 (talk) 09:46, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This appears to be a strict application of a rule that by applying it actually harms Wikipedia instead of protecting it. Trigger happy, IMO. Cheers! Siebrand 16:52, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Are you also RonaldB-nl? Regardless, how do you figure that everyone else has to get their bots approved but this one is an exception? —Wknight94 (talk) 17:25, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No. I am not nl:User:RonaldB. I am User:Siebrand, as can be seen from my signature. As you can see from the edits of the bot, the bot has recognised open proxies minutes before humans identified vandalism from the IP adresses. It appears to be a very valuable addition to en.wp, as it has been to nl.wp and he.wp for almost a year. All edits by the user/bot have been benign, not made rapidly and not bad in any way. Block and post, not even at the indicated home wiki of the user this talk apge belongs to is not really nice, I think. You appear to have a different opinion. Cheers! Siebrand 18:28, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've unblocked the bot as it's been approved for trial at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/RonaldBot. No one's objected to the bot - there are bot approval checks because they are a sensible precaution. -- zzuuzz (talk) 22:52, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, the bot will resume operation soon. - Rgds RonaldB-nl 23:32, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

STOP YOUR BOT![edit]

It is running without a bot flag. Please stop and wait for official approval. — E talkbots 10:18, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's been approved for trial. See above. -- zzuuzz (talk) 10:29, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Source for bot[edit]

I would like to have the source for your bot so that I can use it on [1]. Is there a way I can download it? ffm 16:20, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Firefoxman,
The reporting on en:w (and many other wikis) is accomplished by a program that is part of a much bigger system, including a daily maintained database (which I keep proprietary for obvious reasons). See here for some background info (not entirely up-to-date, but still providing a good overview of the system).
Key to the reporting/monitoring part is an irc feed. I don't know whether laptop.org avails that facility. If yes, it might be feasible to monitor laptop.org as well. - Rgds RonaldB-nl (talk) 16:54, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Template:BLIP[edit]

A tag has been placed on Template:BLIP requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 20:40, 21 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking bot[edit]

I'm told you have a tor blocking bot. I'm an admin around here and would be interested in running it on en-wiki on an approved bot account. Can you communicate details like what sort of interface it has, etc? I would then write a WP:BRFA and a WP:RFA for it. MBisanz talk 17:44, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Matthew,
Yes that's right. See here for a (somewhat outdated) explanation on the whole thing I'm running. Pre-emptive blocking is what I'm doing on w:nl and w:he (the latter by invitation). Besides TOR, I'm also blocking some other categories of open proxies. Btw, that proces also includes unblocking if the IP appears no open proxy anymore for a certain period of time.
Another bit of the whole system is monitoring some ten wiki's. Look here for the w:en results. That page also provides links to other wiki's.
Some other wiki's also pre-emptively block TOR, but mine only blocks exit nodes if such IP's appear to behave so for some time. That prevents blocking the IP's of individuals just trying TOR or IP's that are dynamic (and my statistics have shown that there are numerous).
I've been involved earlier in a WP:BRFA, see [2], but if you read the discussion later on, there appeared to be some resistance.
Nevertheless, if you think a new attempt is feasible, I'm happy to cooperate. - Rgds RonaldB (talk) 00:47, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi RonaldB. My IP range was caught in your pre-emptive block of open proxies. Would you review the email I've sent to you, and remove the restriction from my ip address for w:nl, please? — Mark (Mkmcconn) ** 20:53, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The block is lifted. Zeer bedankt. — Mark (Mkmcconn) ** 23:45, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:41, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Automatic Open Proxy detection[edit]

Hi Ronald, I (Buachamer) just sent you an email about the automatic open proxy detection. Have you heared about the WIMA test to detect proxy servers? It seems to be a very powerful check. Could that be integrated or used in the Wikipedia to improve the proxy detection? --198.182.37.200 (talk) Buachamer 09:23, 5 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked IP on nl.wikipedia.[edit]

Hi Ronald,

few moments ago i tried to login on dutch Wiki via SUL login, but i received this error message:

Registreren is mislukt.

I tried to write somewhere to un-block my my IP, but i cant edit nothing on dutch wikipedia. Can you un-block my IP, i want to correct some things in an article? --XXN (talk) 16:25, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi XXN,
Solved. My mistake, caused by some WHOIS confusion re Romania and Moldavia. - RonaldB (talk) 16:56, 28 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked IP on nl.wikipedia. II[edit]

Hi, I tried to edit Dutch wiki to do some minor fix there. But I can't edit any page and when I see my IP log, it has been blocked by RonaldB.. I see you have already block any IP from 60.52.0./16 range there. Can you unblock my IP? Thank you. — ᴀʟʀᴇᴀᴅʏ ʙᴏʀᴇᴅ ʜᴜʜ? 00:05, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ranking Update
It has been solved. - RonaldB (talk) 10:34, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked IP on nl.wikipedia. III[edit]

Hi Ronald. Sorry to bother you with another one of these blocked IP messages. But the IP that I use is indefinitely blocked in Dutch Wikipedia because of open proxy. I am trying to edit the Dutch wiki to make an edit there, but cannot even create my own sandbox. Unfortunately, even though the entire 67.220.154.0/19 range was blocked in September 2013, I did not notice that my IP was blocked until today. Can you please unblock my IP as well, or at least give me IP block exemption? It will be appreciated. Thanks, Epicgenius (talk) 23:39, 18 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ronald, have you had time to consider my dilemma yet? If not, I understand. I would like IP block exempt on nl.wikipedia if the indefinite rangeblock cannot be lifted. Thanks, Epic Genius (talk) 02:57, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, didn't notice earlier. You now have a block-exempt on nlwiki. - Rgds RonaldB (talk) 12:15, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your quick response. Epic Genius (talk) 12:42, 13 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

And again Blocked IP on nl.wikipedia.org[edit]

Hi Ronald. I'll do this in English since this is the English language wp. I'm trying to edit the Dutch wikipedia, but I'm receiving the message the IP address is blocked due to possible open proxy. Now I'm sitting at a respectable company at IP address 192.165.183.201. I'm sure they're not involved in anything obscure like an open proxy, so something must be wrong. Even logged in as myself (SUL .marc.) I can't edit, and the explanation I get is that I may have been blocked, which I know is incorrect. If I try to use the email address given in the message, https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speciaal:Contactpagina, I receive the same error message, not able to send any email. So triple error: a) not an open proxy, b) not a blocked user and c) no way to send an email. I'm not sure who blocked the address or range, but could you please look into this? Many thanks in advance. Regards, .marc. (talk) 15:36, 13 January 2015 (UTC) PS. It appears I was using a browser window that was still open from a different IP. Now that I've logged off, I can't log in anymore and I can see it was actually you who blocked the range.[reply]

Hi .marc
Something has been changed in the allocation of the blocked range and indeed this particular IP is not a suspect. However looking at some other IPs in the range, I decided not to unblock the range. Instead, I gave you an IP-exempt on nlwiki. - Rgds RonaldB (talk) 16:04, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the fast response and resolution. .marc. (talk) 16:16, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Open proxy detection[edit]

IP range 5.171.0.0/16 was blocked by you on nl.wikipedia because it is an... "Open proxy"?! It is an Italian Internet connection via TIM Internet key (AS16232 ASN-TIM Service Provider, IT); check it with Whois: you have blocked indefinitely a simple normal IP range that has never been used for vandalism. 5.171.0.122 (talk) 19:59, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request at nlwp[edit]

Hi, RonaldB! Please check nlwiki's my talk page. Best regards --Soratako (talk) 15:35, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
