Blocking a whole 88.198.0.0/16 is far too much, because it affects my host, too. The blocked /16 belongs to Hetzner Online, but Hetzner assigns static IP addresses so the culprit(s) with open proxies can be prosecuted with a closer IP range. --RokerHRO (talk) 16:40, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Actually, blocking of datacenter IPs is quite usual: there are no users in these ranges for whom proxying is the only way to access teh interwebs. Why do you ned to use your host as a proxy? Max Semenik (talk) 19:45, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Who talked about proxies? I use my server for many practical and privacy reasons. I regularily use several different "Hot Spots" and other internet connections that run over unencrypted or poorly encrypted WLANs. So I just always use an encrypted connection to my server, and run all vital services (even my whole desktop, incl. browser) there, so I can access it from everywhere and the hot spot operators – and other customers in the same LAN – are unable to spy out my internet traffic, because that's not their business. (Or should not be).

Moreover the reason given for the block is discriminating. There is no "open proxy" on my host at all, and never was. If there is a general policy "we block datacenter IPs generally" in the en-WP the text in the box should be changed to point to this policy.

Optimizing PNG files

Your edit on one of my uploaded images: -zc1-9 -zm1-9 -zs0-3 -f0-5 -i0 → 32.07% decrease Why do people create unoptimized PNG files? *sigh*

Because "some people" don't know about optimization (what it means or how to do it, though I presume it means compression) and have been admittedly lazy in researching same. That said, do you have a helpful instructive link re the basics? p.s. When I create a PNG file in MS PAINT, as far as I'm aware there is no optimization option in the PAINT toolset. Uuh… MS Paint. Okay, so Microsoft is still unable (or unwilling) to write proper software that creates PNG files with sensible compression. Not your fault.

There are many Open Source tools out there that do better. But if you insist of using MS Paint you might consider to use an external PNG optimizer / recompressor like pngcrush, optipng or … https://lmgtfy.app/?q=png+optimizer+windows
