About the pros of Wikipedia[edit]

  • An encyclopedia that is always accurate, since everyone is welcome to change/ edit something.
This is often put forth as the chief point of wikipedia. On an ordinary encyclopedia you can in general know that the facts are written by a professional that has studied the relevant field, on wikipedia you risk reading articles written by some random person.
  • Everyone can edit on Wikipedia. That's a big pro, for 2 persons know more than 1. Imagine what 6,5 billion people (can/ do) know :-)
Unfortunately the number of people with access to internet is far less than 6,5 billion.
  • It's nice to wander around in the world called Wikipedia; just take a random topic, search, and let the highlighted words (links) on that page do the rest. Perhaps you started to look some info about Amsterdam, and before you know it, you may end up on a page about toiletpaper (for those of you who want to find out if this specific example is possible; not that I know. It was just a matter of speaking. However, if you do have found the links, let me know :-D)
Amsterdam -> 16th century -> Toilet -> Toilet paper. This path was created with six degrees of wikipedia, that I found on the wikipedia page Six degrees of separation. This page details a general observation about connectivity in networks, and is applicable to pretty much everything.

Happy editing Taemyr 02:10, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

About the path; it is currently outdated since the inventions section in the 16th century article was removed. This removal looks like vandalism, but is fairly old(1 month) so I wanted some feedback before I reverted it. Here is another path: Amsterdam->Industrial Revolution->Textile manufacturing->Ply->Toilet paper. In general it is rare to need more than 6 links between any two wikipedia articles.(current, though Textile manufacturing is being merged so this path too is going to become outdated). Re: Your EU page[edit]

Hi, thanks for your support for my EU portal project, for now it is a restyling, but I would like to change the content a bit, to make it more useful. Talking about the EU inclusion in List of countries by population and others: I would like to have it there unranked, as many many others, but generally there are two kind of people against that: pro-US nuts that want their country to be always at the top, and so they vandalize the articles removing the EU without discussing on the talk page. Then there are people who don't see the political and social importance of the EU and its difference from other supranational organizations (such as NATO, African Union, Mercosur) and don't want to make an exception for it in the lists. They removed it many times, and now they want it in a separate table in the article. We had a vote and the decision was to keep the EU listed with something like 7 pro and 3 against, but they all just ignore the fact. The problem is that most editors here are either from the US or the UK, and in both these countries the EU is not seen under a good eye...

Well, sorry for the length of my answer, anyway, are you a member of WikiProject European Union? It is not very active, we should really do something. --giandrea 17:22, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Conservapedia[edit]

Just to clarify, Conservapedia is not a project of Wikipedia. Personally, I agree with your point of view, it's a disgusting site, especially the homosexuality article; how can so-called Christians be so hateful towards others? CloudNine 20:35, 2 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your protection request[edit]

Hello, I saw your protection request here. Next time, please submit it at WP:RPP instead. Thanks, Airplaneman 03:17, 6 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Zirve 2010 requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article has never existed, has been deleted or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Certifications[edit]

Hello, I read your multiple messages on Greek album talk pages. Unfortunately, a certification is an award given to an artist by IFPI Greece alone. Levels stand at whatever they were awarded originally based on the certification levels at that time. IFPI Greece shows a list of the certification levels throughout the years. You cannot self-award albums additional certification levels. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 01:45, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the sales of the two albums you picked out, Kravgi sold 175,000 double cds or 350,000 discs. IFPI counts discs, not albums for some reason. In November of 2002 when it was released, the threshold was 50,000 discs for platinum: 350,000/50,000=7x plat. As for Gia (album), I'm not really sure where the sales numbers came from (a reason why we try to exclude them, but there are some tiresome people who keep adding them back), but her official site says 5x plat. Also, the site used for 400,000 discs, I'm not sure if they are including all the re-releases (which would be given out at the newer lower cert rates, and the international sales, which IFPI would not award for). Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 22:16, 9 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
IFPI Greece doesn't seem to care about anyone but itself. Their "short transition" to a new tracking system was supposed to be up and running by July 2009. Then they said Septemeber 2009, and then they changed it to not have a date at all. Repeated emails have gone unanswered about certifications and chart positions. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 16:25, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
A lot of artists are releasing their albums through newspapers because it is an easy way to get them into the hands of the consumer and build a larger fan base. Artists make most of their money from appearances and concerts, so sales only have a large effect on the record labels...for the most part. Also the new packages are not why they are cheaper. New packages are "eco-friendly"; they are produced for the benefit of the environment, not to cut costs. An American label actually told me that they pay more for the eco-cases. CD's in Greece had been overpriced for sometime now. In the US, a CD is about 12-14 dollars while in Greece they were approaching 20 euro (27 dollars or so, so cheaper prices benefit exports too I guess). Overall, the industry is plagued with efficiency problems unfortunately. Grk1011/Stephen (talk) 01:20, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Internationalism[edit]

Hi Robster,

Thanks for the comment you left on my talk page. Yes, it's something I've had half a mind to do for some time now. A WikiProject whose purpose is to counter the systematic USA bias... in peaceful, non-nationalistic ways. My first thought is to use things like English Wikipedians and Australian Wikipedians to gather lists of people who might be interested in joining the project - as they would probably be the ones most likely to share this viewpoint. Then we can start discussing strategy for how to better "internationalise" the English Wikipedia. Any thoughts on this? EuroSong talk 14:32, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

JB[edit]

Hi Rob, I fixed the symbol thingy on your userpage, with quite a bit of trial and error ;-) I also read your comment on the Jay Brannan talk page. I think the source of him talking about it to a magazine closed the issue pretty much and I agree with your sentiment that only actually controversial or sensitive information should be omitted if the subject wants it. There was recently a discussion on exactly that topic on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Biography. Best wishes Hekerui (talk) 16:58, 4 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the nice words! The thing with the div is that it exists in a box, the two symbols are the code for the closing of one. You can see the same thing in the box you use on top of your userpage. When I noticed that, I added the box start and the page looked bad so I looked around and found the two commands that affix the thing to the right and make the background transparent. Oh, and I agree with your assessment of JB. I've seen him in concert and he's a really good singer but has some eccentricities. Feel free to send me an email if you want to know what happened. Pope[edit]

Just something to think about. The Pope is not "The Big Dog of religion".. "Religion" is not synanomous to "Catholicism" or even "Christianity". The majority of world population is not catholic or even christian, there are also Hinduists, Buddhists, Muslims, Jews etc. etc. :) Ben Gershon (Talk) 17:04, 6 March 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by בן גרשון (talkcontribs) [reply]

Well, I didn't really mean it like that. First of all: chances are that, to understand me, someone has to be... well, me. ;) Second: eventhough you aren't me (not that I know of, anyhow ;)), I'm still gonna try to explain myself.

If you have seen my userboxes, then you might've understood that I
1. am not religious whatsoever, and
2. have a very sarcastic sense of humor.
Both were put in the blender called 'Rob's brain' (c'est moi :P), and resulted in shouts like 'pope-quote' and 'Big Dog'. I kept this, and put the 'pop-quote' on top, though, for the article is about same-sex marriage (SSM), and the Netherlands is the first country to grant SSM. The Netherlands is also, however, a Roman Catholic Archdiocese (Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Utrecht), so when the Netherlands was opening up something so 'sacred', the Vatican was the first to protest, way before the muslims, jews, hindus, etc. protested, simply because this Archdiocese was playing naughty, and by doing so, turning away from god.

That being said: I do understand that there are so many religions on the planet, and that ánything concerning this topic is delicate. I do hope that you can see that I didn't mean to insult anyone, nor putting the pope ahead of any other religious leader, for, frankly, I couldn't care less who's the 'Big Dog' in religion. :) Robster1983 (talk) 21:05, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hi! :) What a nice and detailed response. You do have a point, Netherlands being the first country to ever legalize same-sex marriage gives it and its history (including opponents to ssm) the right to be at the top, if we're thinking historically. But it still hurts my eyes to see something so specific to one stream in one religion, being on the top of a paragraph that calls itself "religion", a name that suggests generality. Maybe just a single general line before the pope thing would fix that. But we should probably discuss that in the talk page of the article. :) Anyway, thank you very much for your kind reply, I hadn't looked at your userboxes before sending the msg, but I did look at them now and you seem like a really nice guy. Was surprised to find Ofra Haza there!! Ben Gershon (Talk) 15:46, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Laila tov chaver sheli, ma nishma? (these are, like, almost all the words I know in Hebrew, and this is the first time since 2009 I could use them again... I'm so proud of myself right now ;)) Well, to start off with the good news: heaving read your opinion concerning the 'pope-quote', I have re-edited the section slightly, as you can see here. I think this explains why the 'pope-quote' is being placed were it is. Your opinion about it is still appreciated, though. :) And now some chit chat: yes, I love Ofra Haza a lot, even way (like: WAY) before I visited Israel! If asked what I reckon as one of the most beautiful voices ever, then she is the first one coming to mind. The others can be found here. :) Alrighty, I have spent WAY too many hours on wiki already, so imma call it quits right now. Lehitraot, Robster1983 (talk) 23:27, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Very good! If you want I can teach you some more Hebrew words and phrases :) And what Ofra Haza song are you referring to in your userpage (about fanaticism and terrorism)? I saw your music list - interesting, a lot of mediterranean countries (Greece, Turkey, Israel, France). coincidence? :) Ok, we should stick to one talkpage because it's confusing, so I'll answer what you asked me in my talkpage here. I found the song I was looking for, it was quite hard to find. Now it's on youtube and much easier to find (here it is). :) So, I see you're going to sleep, have a very good night :) Ben Gershon (Talk) 00:19, 8 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I love many Israeli artists (Ofra Haza, Michal Amdurski, Dana International, Sarit Hadad, etc.), and sometimes it just bugs me that I can't understand what they are singing. I mean, it's really hard to find the translations of the songs on the internet. A big difference with Greek or Turkish music; the translation of Hande Yener's latest song? Online. The lyrics of Sakis Rouvas' latest hit? Easy to find. And the song from Ofra Haza I am referring to, is "Middle East", from her album "Desert Wind". One of her best songs, in my humble opinion. :) And well, my love for foreign music started with Ofra Haza and 'Elena Paparízou. It's a long story, but in short: loved Paparízou on the ESC, downloaded some of her music, came across her Greek songs, loved it, bought it. Ofra Haza: always loved her song "Im Nin Alu", but never knew who it sang. Finally I found out, wrote it down, but later forgot her name and lost that note. Was in Berlin, and stumbled across her 1997 album "Ofra Haza" (still not knowing this was the singer of "Im Nin Alu"). Looked at the back, and this song was on it. :) After that, other languages/music captured my interest (Greek, Israeli/Hebrew, Arabic, Spanish, Turkish, Japanese, Bulgarian, Serbian, Korean, German, French, Swedish, Danish, etc. etc.). But I mostly listen to Greek and Turkish music. And I dunno; I do think I have this strange fascination with the Eastern-Mediterranean, as I love the food, love the languages, and love the cities (Tel Aviv-Jaffa and İstanbul rule!!! :D). And the people, they are so... I dunno, complex? They share só much on almost every level, yet they have this love-hate relationship with eachother (can't live with, or without oneanother). Just fascinating!

Maybe a useful tip: if you are in search of a certain song, and you remember(ed) some lyrics of the song, you could always try to type the words of the lyrics in google, and search. Most of the times it leads you to the song (especially the English-language songs).

And finally a question: have you got Facebook? If you have, and if you like, you can add me (you can find my FB-page here). Anyhow, lehitraot! Robster1983 (talk) 14:03, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, facebook? Sure I have. Great, I'll add you and we'll continue the chat there :) Ben Gershon (Talk) 17:55, 9 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sig[edit]

Sig 1[edit]

It appears that the current version of your signature on User:Robster1983/signature is within the allowed length. Now what you ought to do is copy/paste the contents of that page into the signature line of your preferences, replacing the {{subst:.....}}.

If, in future, you want to change it some more, just fiddle with it on the signature page, and when you're happy with it, copy that new text into your signature box. If the new signature is ever too long to fit in that box, it means it's too long and needs to be shortened anyway. Trial and error is probably best; you can learn a lot of wikimarkup experimenting.

Cheers, --Floquenbeam (talk) 01:53, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

* Note: I think I understand it now! Someone else made a suggestion, and adding that signature was no problem at all! :D WOOHOO!!! :D Still, though: what to do with the second signature page? Donate it to charity? Find a foster family? Lock it up in the basement?) Ρόμπ Life's short, talk fast 09:44, 10 March 2011 (UTC) [reply]

  • Robster,

Glad you're all set. As far as your sig2 page is concerned, you can either ignore it, or if its presence is annoying you, you can put a {{db-user}} tag at the top and an admin will come along and delete it. --Floquenbeam (talk) 14:45, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sig 2[edit]

I've removed the <big> tags per Wikipedia:SIG#Appearance and color. You should read that and certify that you've verified that the colour uses pass the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines tests. FWIW, I'm quite sure that they do not. Damned, Gold Hat (talk) 02:52, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Next time you feel that you need to 'save' wikipedia from things like this, you might want to try talking to that person with a little more respect; not acting als an RDA bulldozer. Also, you might want to understand that the person of subject might be in bed, as he/she is in another timezone than you are in.
I'm all open for discussion, but not like this. Next time I shan't even respond to something like this.
Ρόμπ Life's short, talk fast 09:15, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The above mssg is way too harsh, that's why I deleted it. What I am trying to say, Gold Hat, is that you could make people understand something way better, if you just try a different approach in discussions. Take Floquenbeam and Athaenara; they proved to be more than helpful, while staying überpolite at the same time (really, if I had the time and money, I'd build them a statue! ;)).
Just an example: when someone is taking swimming lessons and does things wrong while swimming, and he/she is literally drowning, then the first thing one should do, is to take that person out of the water (unless it's Jean-Baptiste Carrier ;)). When all is well again, one might sit down with that person, and talk about what was going wrong. But shouting from the side that he/she should do things different isn't helping at all, not while he/she is drowning.
And about what is or is not appropriate as a signature: I was really offended by the "Damned" part in your signature (I'd still be, if Floquenbeam hadn't explained it to me). You may have a reason to put it there, but it's not helping in a discussion, in fact, it only made things worse in this case. "Why do you look at the splinter in your brother's eye, and not notice the beam which is in your own eye?" These two things (a certain approach in discussions and the "Damned" part in your signature) combined weren't helping me, or the discussion, at all. Maybe you could just step back, and take a look at it, ask yourself whether or not it contributes to a constructive and positive discussion. Anyhow, still a smile for you! :) Ρόμπ Life's short, talk fast 10:55, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You're off-topic; this is not about bulldozers, your "drowning" on that help desk page, my *damned* sig, or any of your overwrought hyperbole. You seem to have gotten the idea that you should tart-up your sig: Bad Idea™ — Floquenbeam and Athaenara said much the same and you don't listen to the meek. You've not much addressed any of the comments anyone has made that are not in line with your inappropriate intent. Glossing your last 50 contribs, I don't see a single edit to an article; see: WP:HERE.
You've persisted in flaunting the guidance at WP:SIG for poor reasons: vanity, it would seem. You've sill got garish colours about, big-tags and it all screams "me, me, me." You should know that few of the serious people here much listen to those with silly sigs; they're actually a method of filtering. Damned, Gold Hat (talk) 18:54, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My first reply was uncalled for, not assuming good faith, and shouldn't be typed in the first place; that's why I deleted it. Since it's deleted, I shan't reply on anything involving that. Involving signatures: whatever you think my motive is to colour my signature up, that's your opinion, and you are entitled to have it, so I shan't say anything about that either. And since I don't feel like continuously justifying myself to you, I reckon it best if the discussions we have had stay at this. We will never see eye to eye on anything, and it's just taking too much energy to talk to you, and I suspect you feel the same way about me. Any other reply on my talkpage nót involving wikipedia an sich shan't be responded. Best regards, Ρόμπ 1983 Life's short, talk fast 19:32, 10 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Profanity and borderline profanity are sometimes seen as another method of filtering. I've just had a quick look and a good laugh at someone's talk page, and (:hint:)it wasn't mine or yours, Robster.
Even if few edits go to article pages, they can be WP:constructive, in that they may help resolve a dispute, add information to a hot article (where edits by 'foreign' editors often get RVed indiscriminately) or a semi-protected / protected article, or help a fledgling editor. The WP:COI rule is an extreme case. It basically bans biased editors from the article and limits their contri6s to the discu55i0n page of teh article. XD One can't stick the not constructive label to them just because they don't edit any articles.
Re colors: the contrast ratio is much better now (I'd guess it's 6~8 to 1).
Re sigs shouting 'me! me! me!': the same can be said about profanity. It is allowed on talk pages, but a guideline recommends using it sparingly if@all. Some just give up on it after the F word.
There are lots of editors with fancy sigs: GBfan, SPhilbrick, GiftigerWunsch (spelling?) etc. who are usually 'heard.' - (User.0.0.0.1) 09:36, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
@ Zero.Zero.Zero.One: I have since adapted my sig some more; every letter you see is the Greek variant of the English name (Robster turns into Ρόμπστερ), so it's a literal translation. I also have added the '1983' again. My name is some dark-greenish colour (for, indeed, the red-ish colour was not the smartest choice), and the "Life's short..." is purple (for I couldn't really read the green-ish version :s). It's readable, and still less boring than the standard sig, yet all within the 255 characters-rule, also. So I think that this "storm in a teacup" has moved over. Well, anyhow, I left that teacup. :) I mean, after all, what on earth are we talking about? Libya is spinning out of control, earthquakes hit the East, the economy doesn't seem to grow again, and even on wikipedia there are anonymous people vandalising pages, fans that peacock there favourite artist's article, yet here we are; for days now we have been discussing (here it is ladies and gentlemen): a signature. :|

At first I took Gold Hat seriously, but the way he was addressing the case, made it so that it lost meaning by the letter. Since you referred to his talkpage, I thought I'd take a look (didn't really felt the urge to do so when he referred to it). Let's just say that the shiny barnstar on the bottom of his page is well earned. :) All I know, is that a constructive, healthy conversation has left the building a long time ago, if it ever was in that building, that is. Something positive to end with, though: Gold Hat labelled me as a child! 27 Years old, and still labelled a child! I know a lot of people, male & female, straight & gay, who would kill for a remark like that, and I just got one! :D Ka-Ching! ;)
Anyhow, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts about all of this (and putting new heart into me)!
BTW, your name... is that, like,.. Borg or something? :P ;) Ρόμπστερ 1983 Life's short, talk fast 10:43, 11 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(unindenting <--) I see that you have a good bit of forum/irc experience (emoticons & stuff), and that seems to have the benefit that you're not too easily pushed where others want you to go.

And no, I'm not Borg, or UniMatrix0001 if that's what m yname looks like. And I'm not an inflated blonde either, I suck at typing, that's all. :-S There is, however, a user named "DerBorg" who uses faux Cyrillic spelling.

During the age of compuserve, when users were numbers rather than letters. And when you could pick your callsign but forgot, you got the "user####" (with a varying number of digits) tag attached, or sometimes "guest####", "member####" or a similar word. Now you have to enter a callsign, and if you don't, the server will remind you that you have to. I picked dots and four digits for an IP-like look.

However, Ρόμπστερ looked like the Greek equivalent of 'Rompster' to me. I thought of something like Ρόβστερ (damn, i have to resort to charmap for that kind of letters) but since Greek is all Greek to me(lol) , that was just a guess. If you checked that Ρόμπστερ is the closest to Robster, then it's ok, and a Facepalm Facepalm to my wild guesses.

thank You for the Wikipedia Picture[edit]

Hello, My name is Duane Hurst and I recently made a free (non-commercial) English web site to share information with people. I added links to your Wikipedia/Wikimedia freeware picture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Giza-pyramids.JPG). I also gave credit to you on my web pages for your work. Thank you for sharing with the public. My website is:

http://www.freeenglishsite.com/

I add pictures such as yours to one of the following major sections of my site: 1. World section - contains information and over 10,000 images of every world country and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/index.htm

2. USA section - contains information and images of every USA state and territory. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/world/usa/index.htm

3. English section - "Mel and Wes" lessons in conversation format. Stories are located in various USA states and world countries such as China, England, Germany, Japan, Mexico and Thailand. Each lesson has many slang terms and idioms, which I link to my Slang Dictionary. This eventually will have over 5,000 terms. Currently, it has about 3,000 slang and idioms. I regularly add new lessons and slang terms. Link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/lessons/index.htm Slang Dictionary link at: http://www.freeenglishsite.com/english/slang/Eslang_a.htm

Prior to retirement, I taught English at several private and public universities in the United States.

Please share this free site with your friends. I hope all will enjoy the pictures and find the English information useful. Sincerely,  Duane Hurst in Utah, USA

Ticket for Eurovision[edit]

Do not add that tickets prices are high that is more of an inconvenience and it is clearly biased- Sammyham84 (talk) 23:15, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It’s not biased, it’s a fact. I’ve showed you, and everyone else, multiple sources. Besides, what does it matter to you? Why are you so fixated on keeping that information away from people? It is broadcasted on Dutch telly, it is on blogs, vlogs and twitter around the world. It’s a fact. 「Robster1983」 Life's short, talk fast 23:23, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Eurovision Song Contest 2019[edit]

Do you want to add a section called "Opinions and complaints about the contest" and add it there? I will remove it though because of WP:NOTESSAY for example. Otherwise, if it's added in the Incidents section, apart from the fact that it's not an incident, there's something called WP:NOTEVERYTHING. —Dimsar01 Talk ⌚→ 10:51, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Samsara 11:11, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I know, I’m the one who reported it. But because I’m part of it, I reckoned it only fair to include me, too. 「Robster1983」 Life's short, talk fast 11:21, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I honestly need to think about this all. I love the ESC, but I don’t love the people around it; most of them are rather hostile - even though that’s not what this is all about! 🙁 I don’t want to be in some sort of edit-war every year; I just matter about the facts and how it is represented. So, all in all: I need to give this a good, hard, thorough thinking. I hope you will understand.

Kind regards anyhow, and thank you for inviting me. I shall get back to you. 「Robster1983」 Life's short, talk fast 23:53, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed your response. Welcome! The main idea of the WikiProject is to make sure that the many pages within the Eurovision umbrella follow the same format and to centralize discussions that affect numerous pages. Honestly, it's not as cohesive as it was in years past and I've struggled to get people to respond to discussions on the project's talk page. I would like to improve the camaraderie among Eurovision editors, but you are right that there tends to be a bit of hostility. Also note that a majority of those editors are not members of the WikiProject. Grk1011 (talk) 16:57, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Evxaristw for your canning and frank opinion. I shall try to do what I can do. 👍🙂 「Robster1983」 Life's short, talk fast 23:41, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

It feels important for me to acknowledge to you, your humanity and commitment to contribute. You may remember, I read and participated a bit at the Eurovision 2019 talk page discussions, but I also further went through some discussions again with your participation on the 2019 talk, also your contributions during the week the contest was held.

I admire your patience and cooperation, above all your honest sharing of your opinions and for honestly exposing yourself to share when you get caught at some unclear editorial or conversational miss understandings struggles with someone else, and how you try to narrow this gaps, in a warm friendly manner. I wish for more people like you around here, and I wish you only smooth and happy editing for the future. אומנות (talk) 22:01, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so very much! This really means a lot to me, and I consider it the greatest honour! I don’t want/need barnstars, I just want to do what is right. Because, after all, that’s what Wiki is all about. No bias, no judgement, just the facts. Patience, and, sometimes, retrieving from a discussion, is only bringing things more together, I reckon. As mentioned before: I shall try to post things, if possible. But I don’t want to be in an edit war every time (especially concerning the ESC; why are people so fierce about it?). Sometimes it’s best to avoid certain people/articles, and come back with a solid case. And if that means an edit war, I shall always include myself, as I am part of it. It’s two (or more) that take part in it, and I might be one of them. It’s only fair to include me, too. Pointing fingers at someone else doesn’t makes sense if you are part of it. Be honest, and include yourself too. Dutch straightforwardness works both ways: we might be blunt and frank, but we also take responsibility if needed. We don’t want to put a certain person away, especially if - in this case - I am involved. Together we can make it work! 🙂 「Robster1983」 Life's short, talk fast 03:22, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Robster, you are most welcome! And I mean WELCOME to its fullest, in that I liked to see discussions you joined to express yourself, and the genuine way you did it and wish for you to keep as long as you have the time and enjoyment out of it. For me, it increases mine, and I'm sure others, desire to discuss to work alongside people as yourself and together with you make an influence. :-)
Of course, you are right, it's best to try and discuss as genuine and thorough as possible to resolve something; by the by showing truthful cooperation to the other side, and I'm glad you reflect on your responsibility in edit wars you had. Although, I mostly saw your discussions on the 2019 ESC talk page, which seemed nice and truly reaching-out to resolve matters - especially when you came to mine and other editors various talk pages to notify about a reached understanding and thank everyone who participated. So back at you - not many people go in such generous manner to thank various editors and I highly appreciate you for this as well.
I point that there are users all over Wikipedia, especially brain new editors, who can unknowingly or even deliberately (in veterans cases) manipulate policies and/or ignoring or not knowing about existing consensus. In such cases it is allowed, and recommended, to revert them, as this set straight the respect for policies and existing situation, which otherwise give such users extra privilege to do as they wish. If you think this field is fierce, try checking (if/when you have a chance) - the fields of political articles - those are among the most fierce and very-complicated to maintain patience when discussing and editing. Still, even in such cases its always possible to explain calmly or try turning to a 3rd party for resolution in complicated cases of need to further feedback. The last one, is what you kindly did during and after the 2019 talk, and warmly communicated with others in that instance, which again was what brought me here to thank you!
It's also cool, and I'm proud that we have this talk when my country is passing the Eurovision torch to your country! I knew Netherlands song has strong elements though the only song I really truly liked this year and felt has the highest quality - is Italy. In the first decade of the 2000s I barely stand Netherland's songs, but this decade is such a huge improvement for you guys - especially 2013 (Anouk my favorite that year), 2014 (The common linnets, again my favorite, so 2 years in a row), 2017 (the girl trio?) very nice & 2018 (my 2nd favorite). I read somewhere that in 2014 you also loved your country's entry, and this year you loved Italy, Switzerland was nice and fun for me as well. So, on this grounds, we both have at least some similar taste. אומנות (talk) 10:21, 2 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Again, thank you SO MUCH! 😀 But I have to be honest: I’ve visited Israel in 2009, and I was shocked how two worlds combined together. East and west are rather separated. Tel Aviv-Jaffa (or the entire Gush Dan) is brilliant, just like Haifa! But Jerusalem let me down. I saw ‘the protective wall’, and it made me sick. I do feel Palestinians are lacking facilities. That should not be normal circa 2009, let alone 2019. At the same time: Yad Vashem also made me sick, but in a good way. Never forget is what I’d like to say! Jews, Roma, Sinti, people with disabilities, homosexuals, people in the restinance; all murdered for nothing! 🙁 I hope that, one day, my favourite region (the broader Middle-East and the Balkans) will be a beacon of hope! Gush Dan made efforts, however, Jerusalem doesn’t. 😞

I’ve got great respect for your country, as it’s somewhat a lonely state in a rather dangerous region. How you can cope with all of it; respect!

As for me, the ‘torch’ should go to Amsterdam! The most gay-friendly city in The Netherlands with also the most Jews living there. Win-win, and also doing justice to the ESC before. But that’s my humble opinion. 🙂 Or: don’t be afraid of who you are, just be yourself! Gay, straight, Jewish, Muslim, Christian, male or female; everyone is welcome! 😀 I’ve just read an article, that said: “with football/soccer, everyone seems to pick out a row. But I’ve never heard the news saying that ESC-fans were in a giant fight.” Amen! 「Robster1983」 Life's short, talk fast 00:59, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ooh, and about The Common Linnets: imho they should’ve won. If Conchita Wurst wasn’t a man with a dress/lady with a beard, it should’ve happened. But, again: imho. The dice rolls as it rolls. 🙂 「Robster1983」 Life's short, talk fast 01:05, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hey :-) Yea Tel Aviv is the spot of finance, culture, partying, and basically the center of Israel. And while Tel Aviv has very versified population of people more or less getting along, Jerusalem has a more difficult population, mainly religious-wise. Orthodox Jews who try to deny opening of shops and malls-alike on Saturday (the Jewish hooly day) and don’t accept gay people alongside non-religious Jews clashing with them, and, alongside daily lives and political clashes with and in-between Christian and Muslim Arabs. I saw a fascinating news story once about clashes even inside the different 7 or 8 Christian sectors in charge of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre who even got to violent fights over its divisions managing – such as one division under Greek Orthodox, one under the Armenian claiming to invade each other within the church turfs. It’s a city full of conflicts, which results with ugly bordering fences or symbolic borders as with the church, thus results also in hold back of culture nourishment in daily lives and institutions, at least relatively compared to Tel Aviv; security and politics takes the big chunk of the mind and the budget in Jerusalem.
There is a lot of corruption and of course violence going on inside the Palestinian authorities, mostly in Gaza under Hamas which educates and uses children in violent protests, using most money it gets to buy more weapon and build bases for bombs, instead of foremost (or even barely) improving Gaza’s infrastructure for the sake of its residences. The West Bank is a different story – in which I believe Israel has to sit with the Palestinian Authority there, try to slowly and gradually determine boundaries together according to populations, perhaps agree to keep some holly places of worship as International – under supervision of bodies from both sides – and they together should kick Hamas out of the picture, and try unifying Gaza with the West Bank under one direct government, which will be from the parties and members in the west bank. Or even appoint a separate or inner regional government for Gaza - which will still be inspired from the more moderate West Bank kind of governing.
I don’t like most of the handling of the current Israeli government both for still neglecting non-religious and other individuals and minorities rights and for keeping smearing and dragging avoidance talking with the West Bank. The Israeli government had actually failed to get organized under the prime minister and will dissolve for new elections (however the next election will probably produce similar result). I more and more think of our prime minister as plainly corrupted, also for money,, gifts, and his attempts to avoid trial and be above the law in Israel). Still, Hamas most certainly makes it most difficult. Hamas and the internationally-recognized Palestinian Authority governing (at the West Bank, with Fatah at its head), are undermining and hostile to each other just as their relationship with Israel is, which makes it most difficult to sit and talk with one united governing body to make them progress to have a fully-recognized and inner-peaceful Palestinian state or to progress to 2 self-cooperative separate Palestinian states.
I’m definitely proud of my country for being an island of freedom between at least some countries harshly censoring freedom of speech, people’s right to live their lives the way they wish, even gruesome death penalties for adultery or being gay, domestic depressions of women and teenagers. So I’m further proud, and relieved to be born and living in Tel Aviv as the center of acceptance and freedom also within Israel.
Amsterdam – sure, I visited it only once (along with a trip in beautiful Marken and Volendam villages, and Hague, and few more neighboring countries), and I always hear and read about it in a list of coolest cities to party and live your life in peace (alongside New York, Berlin, Tel Aviv…) אומנות (talk) 15:16, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
