Persons vs people[edit]

Please do not change grammatically correct text like "persons". It is incorrect to user "people" in these contexts. EvergreenFir (talk) 18:52, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Persons" is used in specific legal circumstances. 99% of the time, "people" is the correct word. The article you linked to in your edit summary also said this. Reedsrecap (talk) 20:03, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, it mentioned countable vs uncountable. Persons is used widely on Wikipedia (e.g., WP:BLP) EvergreenFir (talk) 22:35, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It said that that distinction was once made, decades or centuries ago. Did you read to the end? "However, in the last few decades the trend has been very much in favor of people, rather than persons. The AP Stylebook flatly states “The word people is preferred to persons in all plural uses.” And The New York Times Manual of Style and Usage now also states “Use people as the plural of person”...Persons tends to be still be found in some formalized settings, such as legal writing, or when a writer wishes to appear extra fancy. But the tide of opinion has shifted enough that you should feel comfortable using people in most cases where you have a choice." Reedsrecap (talk) 08:03, 24 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
