Tip of the moment...
What is a Talk page?
Location of the talk page tab

A Talk page (also known as a discussion page) is a place for contributors to calmly discuss improvements to Wikipedia pages. It is not a forum.

All Wikipedia pages, including articles and user pages alike, have a corresponding Talk page. To switch to the current page's Talk page, click on the "Talk" tab above the page's title. At the very top of the page there is always a link to your Talk page.

All content and conduct issues should be discussed at either the article's or user's Talk page before requesting dispute resolution.

You can {{ping}} specific editors whom you would like to notify of your message post. Though there is no need to ping someone when you've edited their Talk page, because the Wikimedia software automatically notifies that user.

To add this auto-randomizing template to your user page, use {{totd-random}}

Genetics

Hey! I came across this paper which is pretty interesting and ties down results from previous human migration work. Surprisingly enough according to this section the first inhabitants of South Asia were Austro-Asiatic people!!! This would be a classic example of how people who hardly understand genetics talk about that. Id est if you go to Dravidian peoples' article they use Sahoo et al. (2006) to say that Dravidian's don't exist. But in actual matter of fact, as you can see in the paper in my Sandbox which refers to the same paper (as reference 31), this only means that the influence of Central Asian gene pool into India is minor (although not non-existent). The conclusion of those studies are said in the last line of the paragraph, which I have underlined. It is interesting for me to find that Austro-Asiatic people would be the first people to reach South Asia and Dravidians only the second and last the so called Aryans. Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 18:17, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Thats fine. I just thought the very idea that Austro-Asiatic people were the first one to reach South Asia was astounding. Need to see, just out of curiosity, if we there are any archaeological evidence to this end. Wiki San Roze †αLҝ 13:00, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Well, I advice to remove those talk messages all by yourself. I've been pretty decent with you. Your usage of the f-word was unwarranted. I'm not even insisting on an apology. Be good and I'll be good to you. Otherwise get ready to bear the consequences.-RavichandarMy coffee shop 15:12, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Marking edits as "minor"

Hi. I see you added cleanup tags to a number of articles recently, including JNR Class EF66. That's fair enough, but please note that your edits were marked as "M" (minor), which they most certainly not. If you are not sure of the guidelines, please familiar yourself with Help:Minor edit and take more care in future. Thanks. --DAJF (talk) 09:42, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

I do not know which "edits" are you talking about. Could you please elaborate?-RavichandarMy coffee shop 12:47, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
It would be better if you could provide the links-RavichandarMy coffee shop 12:50, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I was referring particularly to these edits to JNR Class EF66 in which you added cleanup tags while marking your edits as "Minor": [1], [2], and [3].
I see from your contributions page that you also made similar edits to JNR Class DD51 [4], EWS [5], and DB Schenker [6]. --DAJF (talk) 13:01, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I tagged them using Twinkle. Are you not aware of the fact that Twinkle marks taggings as "minor"?-RavichandarMy coffee shop 13:04, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Then you will either need to check the settings to make sure it stops marking such edits as "Minor" or stop using it and check your edits manually. The page you quoted reads as follows:
Before you start using Twinkle you really should read its documentation to familiarize yourself with some of the possibilities and functions of Twinkle. There is also a multitude of options that you can configure to change some of the default behaviours of Twinkle. Never forget that you take full responsibility for any action performed using Twinkle. You must understand Wikipedia policies and use this tool within these policies, or risk being blocked. --DAJF (talk) 13:20, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
They are absolutely in tune with Wikipedia:Policies and guidelines. Else, you need to refer this issue to the creator of Twinkle-RavichandarMy coffee shop 13:07, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Er, no they are not. Please read Help:Minor edit once again if you really think so. --DAJF (talk) 13:20, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I'm sorry I'm simply not responsible for automatic edit summaries which Twinkle provides. Please contact User:AzaToth if you have any doubts about Twinkle. If you feel I'm wrong, I advise you to try WP:ANI. Regards-RavichandarMy coffee shop 13:24, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Then I suggest you read WP:TWINKLE again. I will quote the important part for you once again here...
Never forget that you take full responsibility for any action performed using Twinkle.
Do you see? --DAJF (talk) 13:33, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I just saw those edits and found that they were made using Wikipedia:Friendly and not Twinkle. Sorry, but I'm fully convinced that I've done nothing wrong. If you feel so, you may very well complain to an admin. Or maybe, you might ind other ways to get me blocked. All the best.:-)-RavichandarMy coffee shop 13:36, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
I don't think this is a matter that needs administrator intervention, and I don't have any wish to have you blocked. I am just asking you to take the time to read Help:Minor edit to familiarize yourself with what constitutes a "Minor" edit, and then adjust "Friendly" or whatever software you are using so that it does not label important maintenance edits as "Minor". That's all. I have never used Friendly or any automated tool myself, but a quick glance at Wikipedia:Friendly suggests that it is easy to changes the settings. Other editors seem to be able to do it, so please take the trouble to do the same. Thank you. --DAJF (talk) 13:48, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a lot for your concern and help. As a matter of fact, by default, Friendly tags article issues as minor and I, cannot, supposedly change it unless I meddle with the Javascript.-RavichandarMy coffee shop 14:16, 29 January 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your hard work on Periyar E. V. Ramasamy. Following an excellent copyedit on the suggestions provided, I have now passed this article as a Good article, and updated the various talk page templates to reflect this.

That also means you get one of these:

which you may like to place on your user page (or somewhere suitable) by copy/pasting {{User Good Article|Periyar E. V. Ramasamy}} into the page code.

Great job - well done! Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 12:35, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Thanks a lot! But I still feel that there are strong POV issues with the article. I did not want to raise them since GA-reviews are usually performed by only one reviewer. Anyway, I'll be raising them when the author nominates it for FA. The whole section "Ideals and criticism" is messed up with POV. Maybe, the article is worthy enough to be a GA for its wide coverage and the hard work put into it by User:Wiki Raja. Nevertheless, there is no chance of the article clearing FA unless changes are made. Anyway, again, thanks a lot! -12:40, 2 February 2009 (UTC)
Sorry, I didn't notice the work done in the past week. Good job, indeed! The POV part has been removed and the article looks fine now. :-) Good job, fellas!-RavichandarMy coffee shop 12:47, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Re: Raja of Panagal

I'd love to review the article, but unfortunately real-life issues have forced me to take a wikibreak for a month or so. When I return, I'll take up the review, if someone hasn't done it by then. Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 13:05, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Re:Hi

Hi! Not just yet I took it easy for a few days last week, at present I'm mainly doing cleanup tasks and adding infoboxes. I will though be starting Agriculture in Paraguay in a day or two so look out! I;m currently enjoying the great snow we are experiencing here, its common up north but on the coast of south wales which has a mild climate in winter it is very rare!! Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:09, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Actually you could nominate Tsarong Dzasa did you know that he was considered the greatest ally of the British in Tibet or something. I am in the middle of writing it so it should be expanded by another third I think when I'm done. Dr. Blofeld White cat 17:26, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

That's great! :-) Well, it's pleasant here, too. The mercury has dipped to the mid-twenties. It'll last until March-April when the temperature shall start to rise once again. In June, the temperature will be about 40 degrees C and the heat will be almost unbearable. Hmmm, I guess the lack of snowfall in coastal Wales compared to parts more interior in Northern UK is due to the fact that those areas are away from the sea and experience continental-type of climate. Am I right?
Well, I will nominate the article. Thank you very much! I'm aiming for the one hundred mark. -RavichandarMy coffee shop 02:52, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
By the way, could you help me with these articles: Madras Presidency and Lakshmikanthan Murder Case. As far as the first one is concerned, I am forced to leave the article incomplete as I do not have districtwise population statistics for the period 1911 to 1941. I strongly feel that the article is a potential FA and I feel bad that I cannot proceed further. As far as Lakshmikanthan Murder Case is concerned, though the subject is notable, still I am not able to find much sources on the web. All that I could find is a blog by Randor Guy and the site has been blacklisted; so I cannot add this particular reference, too.-RavichandarMy coffee shop 02:52, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Offhand Madras Presidency certainly looks like it has potential, a great article, did you write it? Definately featured potential by the looks of it. I'll try to give it a read when I have a moment and see if I can help. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:02, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, largely written by me! Thanks-RavichandarMy coffee shop 10:10, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Excellent well done! Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:13, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

Agriculture in Bolivia? I'm just starting Fishing industry in the Maldives but I don't think I have enough materia to expand it. I'll scout around now. If not I'll be starting that Paraguay article later. Dr. Blofeld White cat 10:38, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

OK what about The Fishing industry in the Maldives is the considered by the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, to be the lifeblood of the Maldivian nation"? Dr. Blofeld White cat 12:08, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
