Essex FLC ping

I resolved your comments, could you take a look?Mitch/HC32 19:27, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Its done, finally (the lengths are).Mitch/HC32 20:15, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Done with the final problem!Mitch/HC32 23:21, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

copyvio

Hah, sorry about that! I copied a few paragraphs across with the idea that I'd cut them down, reword them etc into something useable in the article.. and then left them in the final draft like a mug. I've blanked the text and the copyvio template both, and I sincerely apologise for any trouble it caused. Ironholds (talk) 14:14, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Chairman

Oh, thanks. We've had a bit of vandalism there in recent weeks, so I've been on alert. --Dweller (talk) 15:36, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

BBC SPOTY

I would strongly recommend you immediately list List of BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards at WP:FLRC or risk a speedy removal of the bronze star. The content and structure is now drastically different (i.e. the article has over doubled in size) from that reviewed and promoted. As far as I'm concerned, this is the most constructive and sensible way forward given that those who supported the original FLC should be given a chance to reassess their viewpoint. Best regards. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:24, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to boldly do it myself. Hope that's alright with you. Dabomb87 (talk) 20:42, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
See here. Dabomb87 (talk) 20:51, 2 July 2009 (UTC)
That is fine. I wasn't deliberately trying to mislead people by waiting, I was just waiting for a name to settle on so the FLRC pages didn't have to be moved. Anyway that can easily be dealt with if necessary and hopefully all questions can be answered in one place now. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 22:20, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

List of Wario video games

It's been a few days, so I figured I'd drop a note on your talk page. I think I've met your concerns about the accuracy of the references in the FLC for List of Wario video games (Nomination). Feel free to take a look over the nomination -- thanks for noticing my mistakes. -- Nomader (Talk) 19:38, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

Quotes in lists

We also may have a problem with some of the Medal of Honor lists... I seem to recall some of them have direct copies of the citations the recipients got when presented with their medals.... Perhaps we need a shortlist of possible problem lists, both FL and FLC. Fingers crossed we get some more input from copyright gurus. In the meantime, with specific reference to Crafoord Prize (which I readily accept falls deeply into this potential category of problematic lists), if I rephrase the citation or, better still, extract the pertinent issues for them winning the prize and replace the direct citations, would that be acceptable? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:29, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

Yep, if you can extract the pertinent issues there would be no potential copyright violation problems for me to have. On a more casual matter, just because your a delegate now, it doesn't entitle you to give more than your 2 cents :p Rambo's Revenge (talk) 20:12, 6 July 2009 (UTC)

FL Review comments

First of all I wanted to thank you for contributing to the FL review of "List of CMLL World Middleweight Champions" article, you've made some comments during the Review that I have responded to, I would really appriciate if you can confirm that my changes & answeres are enough to satisfy your concerns about the article. Thanks in advance. MPJ-DK (talk) 08:18, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

This article was promoted to FL. However, there were lingering issues that weren't resolved, most notably a non-free image that IMO did not need to be in the article. I removed the image, but I don't want to tag it yet in case it is reinstated. What shall I do? (see also Wikipedia:Featured list candidates/19th Golden Melody Awards/archive1) Dabomb87 (talk) 19:33, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

I don't think there is much you can do because even if you don't tag it BJBot might. However, I think you were correct to remove the image as it doesn't meet the NFCC. There isn't an article about the music video to put it in so it'll get deleted. If someone does desperately want it back and can make a good case for inclusion it could always be undeleted. re: Did you take this photo?

(small text took place here on User:Latics' talk page)
Hi, just wondering did you take File:Andy-Murray.jpg? Many thanks, Rambo's Revenge (talk) 00:27, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Friend of mine took it while traveling a few years ago. :s  LATICS  talk  00:34, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Did you upload it, because strictly speaking you didn't own the right so can't release it into the public domain? Rambo's Revenge (talk) 00:35, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Well, he really didn't care too much when I originally uploaded it. But since it's not in use anywhere where it can't easily be replaced, you (if you're an admin) could delete it.  LATICS  talk  00:37, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, well the image is not hosted at Commons (where I'm not an admin) but I had the rights to check the local (en.wiki) deletion logs, and I noticed some discrepencies. Thanks for clearing them up, and if you don't have any objections (i.e. want to get your friend to formally release permission etc.) I'll nominate it for deletion on Commons. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 00:42, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Go for it. It's been replaced by better images since it was originally uploaded. ;)  LATICS  talk  00:45, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for your help. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 00:45, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

So...

... let me get this straight. You want me to close an FLRC on your request but you're opposing my list.... Hmmm.... I'll have to think about it....... The Rambling Man (talk) 16:19, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

That's pretty much the gist of it. If I want a favour in future, I'll be sure to use a sock to oppose you. ;) I'll try and get back to that oppose tonight, but as a heads up if you are using more than five or six words from the source I'd consider putting the quotes back in just for those ones. You can spot them from your diff of changing all the rationales. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 18:12, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

WikiCup participates in the Wikipedia:The Great Wikipedia Dramaout

Hello all, iMatthew here. I just wanted to let you know about "The Great Wikipedia Dramaout" which starts this Saturday. The goal of the Dramaout is to spend five days working on improving articles and abstaining from any of Wikipedia's drama. I don't think that any of you will have a problem focusing on articles for five days, because of course, any work you get done during the Dramaout will count towards your score in the WikiCup. Details are on the page; hope to see you all signing up! :) iMatthew talk at 00:27, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

Copyright expired?

Hi RR, as my roving image reporter, could you have a look at the image of Howard Vaughton here. Would this meet Wikipedia's copyright expired requirements? The Rambling Man (talk) 15:11, 17 July 2009 (UTC)

More than likely it is, but for certainty a bit more information is needed. There are 3 cases:[1]
  1. If the author is known, then it would become PD 70 years after the authors death.
  2. If the author is not known, then it is PD 70 years after it was first published, or
  3. If it wasn't published within 70 years of creation (which is highly unlikely) then it is public domain
Basically it is most likely that an FA Cup winners photo was published (so we can almost certainly exclude the last case). I would imagine it would be published in the year of the FA Cup winning, so therefore if the author is not known (the most likely case I think) then it is PD. If the author is known, then it is only PD if the author died before 1939. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 17:41, 18 July 2009 (UTC)
Cool, thanks. No worries on the FLRC closure. Enjoy your break! I look forward to more of your opposition when you get the time! The Rambling Man (talk) 20:24, 18 July 2009 (UTC)

tennis now has an error

FYI. Because of your partial editing at List of Grand Slam Men's Singles champions errors are now in place. The first paragraph has 10 sources which are now invalid and false with regards to the chart. Names and numbering of the chart (pre-1925 french) are now also in a false state. They all sort of work together and changed only in part has created some additional problems. Thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 21:20, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. I was (stupidly) oblivious that my change was also making changes other than the default ordering of the list. I believe the content is now the same as it was on the protected version and the only change from it is the default sortability ordering. This is not an endorsement of the protected version, it is an adherence to the protection policy. I now understand (maybe only partially) what the edit war was about, I just missed it in the inverting of the table. Discussion should follow as to whether the pre-international event winners are eligible for inclusion. Before 1925 it wasn't an international event[2], however winners from 1891–1924 could be marked differently (as in List of French Open Men's Singles champions) and footnotes could be used to explain total win figures as a compromise. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 22:15, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Yes and no. The pre-25 winners are not considered "slam" winners since it was a minor tourney. You could change the article title but otherwise my 10 listed sources (which Wiki needs) all show no slam listing before 1925. I was told long ago on wiki.... list all those sources and I'm the only one who did which is why I keep switching it back to a "sourced version." Look at it another way. There has been talk of one day making the China Open the 5th slam... it being in Asia for more world balance of slams. In 20 years or so it could happen. Are we to consider players who won it 1997 as a slam winner? Sure, a list of the China Open would include all years... but not a slam list like this article. This has been one of my arguments for awhile. I have also argued for reverse order but in fairness to me no one has ever pulled up that wiki link you did that says no reverse order, so I will bow out of that argument. But at least you see the problem we have. Thanks. Fyunck(click) (talk) 00:28, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
I agree that there is definitely a difference in the 1925 French, for example the Fédération Française de Tennis only list post 1925 winners here (bottom left). The reason I think there is controversy is because the argument is basically about when it became a "slam". And the problem there is that the idea of a "Grand Slam" didn't come about until 1933,[3] and it wasn't until 1989 that there was a Grand Slam Committee.[4] Also Wimbledon wouldn't have started off as an international event[5] it just seemed to happen and because it happened earlier I can't find a specific year. I won't be around to discuss this much further, so I wish you luck with your discussions and editing. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 00:52, 20 July 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for all your input and have a great holiday away from wikipedia. Fyunck(click) (talk) 02:16, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Script

Hi, I noticed that you are using my script, and I thought I would let you know that I have split the script into two, namely User:Plastikspork/monobook.js/script.js and User:Plastikspork/date.js. If you would like to use both, you can just add

importScript('User:Plastikspork/monobook.js/script.js');

and

importScript('User:Plastikspork/date.js');

to your monobook.js. Alternatively, if you are only using the date formatting buttons, you can just add the date.js script. Let me know if you have any questions, comments, bug reports, suggestions, requests, or really anything. Thanks! Plastikspork (talk) 21:43, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
