Hi! I am a former academic of the University of Surrey (UK), now retired from teaching but still active in research and attached to the University's "Advanced Technology Institute". My research interests are in the basic physical theory of high-electric-field nanoscale effects at surfaces, including the emission of ions and electrons, and in the theory of applying these processes to the machines of nanotechnology and to advanced technological devices. Right now, I have a particular interest in clarifying the basic theory of field electron emission, and in extending it to emitting materials other than bulk metals (in particular, carbon nanotubes). I actually prefer to be called "Richard", but there already seems to be a "Richard Forbes" (not me) in Wikipedia. (RGForbes (talk) 23:41, 24 February 2009 (UTC))

I made an extensive rewrite of Fermi level. I agree that it's a good idea to have a dedicated article on this topic. I tried to incorporate into my rewrite the good and useful content that you already had on the page, but please feel free to discuss (or just change) places where I made things worse, or anywhere else that could use elaboration or improvement.

Electric potential difference

In Talk:Electric potential you wrote "It has been known to research scientists in some branches of science, for about 60 years, that "voltage" and "electric potential" are slightly different concepts."
