Please note that when User:FCYTravis says "consensus", usually he means his own personal opinion. Although I agree with him that discussing on the article talk page is an excellent way to establish "consensus", Wikipedia is littered with Travis's statements of what "extensive consensus" is, that really amounts to nothing more than his own personal opinion. Using subject's name in Talk:Star Wars Kid

You have repeatedly used the article subject's name in the discussion about whether using the name in the article is OK or not.

As the BLP policy explicitly says, some aspects of the policy (including the privacy issues) apply to talk pages as well as article pages.

A Variety of Questions

I have three questions for you. This is your first experience as my adopter, so I hope all goes well.

1. I've been looking around and seeing Account Creator Rights. I clicked on the link, but, in my opinion, it wasn't helpful. What exactly does an Account Creator do? I'm intrigued.

2. How exactly are bots run? I would like to run one, but that depends on how hard it is to create one; I can be low-key when it comes to technology.

3. My former adopter (WikiZorro) was going to tell me about user scripts. Since he retired, it never came to be. Yesterday, I finally went and installed basic Twinkle and Friendly. Are there some advanced user scripts I should know about?--LAAFan 17:11, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Can you help?

I see you were listed as a participant in the League of Copy-Editors so it seems likely. The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. Milhist covers a broad range of interesting and varied subjects from film to biography, battles to weaponry, and Roman emperors to twentieth-century dictators. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.

First, thank you very much for responding to the call. I'm sorry it's taken a bit of time to get back to you but I've got the builders in at home (and they're causing chaos) and I've got very behind.

Second, we need help on a couple of levels. we are so short of good copy-editors, partly because of the large number of Milhist articles at PR and FAC, that we're trying to concentrate on A-Class reviews and featured article candidates. I've taken the liberty of transcluding our new tracker template, listing the applicable articles. To add this to your user pages independently of this message, simply cut and paste {{WPMILHIST Copy-editing alerts}} to the required location.

A-Class - copy-tasting / reviewing

We are currently trying to improve the depth and quality of the Milhist A-Class review. What will help here considerably is copy-tasting. That is, reviewing an article and commenting on the style and prose. Clarity, longwindedness (the bane of Milhist), grammar, mixing and matching WP:ENGVAR varieties, MoS stuff (especially dashes), date formatting etc. (Any subsequent copy-editing would be a very welcome and helpful bonus!) Input on any current A-Class candidate would be helpful.

Copy-editing pre-FA and FA candidates

Editors normally take articles go from ACR to FAC, usually via a request for a copy-edit. These requests are usually made here or by leaving messages on copy-editors talk pages. You can respond to requests there or list yourself as a copy-editor so that others may contact you. Either would be very much appreciated. Additionally, a frequent reason for opposition is prose and some hands-on copy-editing of FA candidates would be enormously helpful. (If you do subsequently support the article, please do remember to disclose the copy-edit: ie Support (as copy-editor) though you may prefer simply to Comment that a copy-edit has been done.)

I do hope you can help and that this grows into a longer-term commitment. We are working very hard to set the bar for quality with Milhist articles and quality copy-editing is an essential part of this. With apologies again for the tardy reply, --ROGER DAVIES ^talk 05:39, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

Specify level of copy-editing

Could you please specify your level of copy-editing for the military history project here.

These are the levels:

1. Copy-edit lite: basic proof-reading, spellchecking, punctuation.
2. English variant conversion: for example, from American English to Commonwealth English, or vice versa.
3. Naturalising: copy-edit for editors whose English is fluent but not perfect.
4. FAC prose copy-edit: flow, structure, elegance.
5. FAC technical copy-edit: MoS-compliance for dashes, hard spaces, numbers, measurement conversion.

In another note, please see the talk page per your removal of redlinks to ships. The ships wikiproject is steadily working its way through these red links and as such it is not particularly helpful or useful to remove them just because they aren't blue right now. I think its best they go back now, it will save time later and the article doesn't need them delinking. WikiProject Articles needing copy edit (tentative name)

Hello there!

I have begun laying the groundwork for a new WikiProject that has a very simple goal, to improve Wikipedia by dealing with the articles tagged for copy edit, and I am wondering if you are interested in helping me start it. This project is not a clone of WP:LOCE because we will not deal with requests for review (that is currently handled by our good friends over at Peer Review).

I expect that this will be a relaxed, happy and casual WikiProject, because participants will be able to take things at their own pace and use the project page to ask other participants for help. The project proposal is here, and I have created an almost-functional project page in my userspace here.

There are now over 4000 articles needing copy edit, and very, very few people working on them, so any help, however small, is appreciated. If you are interested, please sign up at the proposal page. Once we have enough people, I will shift the project page, along with its subpages from my userspace into the Wikipedia namespace. For now we can use this section of my talk page to discuss the direction and details of the project, and, of course, its name. *grin*

Expelled

Hi Kimu,

You're more experienced and may know of a way for Wikipedians to communicate privately, so I apologize in advance about a personal communication. (Feel free to delete it at your leisure.)

I've tried to circumspectly express a concern that the Expelled movie is so deceitful, it hurts the cause of people who believe in creationism. To me, it's like Stein said, "We can't make our point honestly, so we'll fall back on lying."

If they had simply stated their beliefs, I would have been supportive, but they chose not to do that. They opted for dishonesty.

Put another way, I hope to visit the Creation Museum some day, but in the meantime, I like to imagine they present in a positive manner with exhibits and evidence that says, "This is what we believe," instead of Expelled's approached of "This is what we want you to believe those awful God-hating Hitlerian scientists believe." (Notice the Creation Museum page is NOT listed as propaganda.)

Do you see the difference in what I'm saying?

Need to fix small error in blocked/can't edit article

There is a minor computational error on line 5 in the article on Water. The figure 10-21 (i.e. 10 to the 21st power) GRAMS should actually be 10-21 KILOGRAMS, or else 10-24 GRAMS.

I can't figure out how to contact someone who could actually (check up on this and) make this correction, since editing is denied. If I start a talk page, under this article, would this ever be seen, and the correction made? Because no-one is going to read all the talk pages on an article when they just need to see the article.

Hi RC. Sorry it's taken me some time to get back to you. I've had a plough (plow?) though your recent contributions this morning. On the whole everything looks good to me. I did notice there were a few times when you reverted vandalism but didn't warn the IP. It's minor but by adding the warning it hopefuly stops bad edits in their tracks or helps at WP:AIV if it gets that far to ensure they have been warned. But that really is a minor quibble as more often than not you do warn as well as revert. Other than that really positive work - really really positive. Holy freaking crap. This is not complicated. Here's a timeline:

• I add Safety to Law's infobox and article because he was quoted as saying he'll do both for the Jets
• RC reverted because he failed to read. His edit summary asked for someone to prove him wrong.
• I came here to prove him wrong and did.
• RC still failed to read apparently, reverted again and took it to the talk page, wasting everyone's time by simply not reading.
• RC acted as if my comments here were out of place, despite the face I created this very topic. I pointed out that Yankees10 comments, if anyone's, were out of place and not my own since I made this topic.
• RC still apparently has not read. God help us all.

I have also looked over your other valuable contributions to wikipedia and am assured that this is a simple misunderstanding, vs. vandalism.

I would also like to voice that I am very familiar with this tonometry matter and a procedure and have been involved in a number of clinical trials related to this breakthrough technology.

I would like to respectfully request not to alter my addition being I have spent many hours to back up all the contents with clinical trials and other credible information.

GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are listed as a GA reviewer. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. How can I fix a major problem (not vandalism, probably some kind of incorrect code)

I was looking at the article on Tahiti, and in many paragraphs there is a lot of strange code of some kind that appears to be active links, but aren't correct... and which I don't understand and am reluctant to remove. It's obviously some kind of consistent error on the page, not vandalism.
