iQue

Erm... iQue was made a redirect, but the content of iQue itself has vanished: the disambig contains a self-refering link (via redirect) and I didn't know that there was such a thing as iQue player.

Regardless, I fixed the disambiguation page. You may want to watch for double redirects in the future :)

Thanks; the error was due to the fact that I created the disambiguation page before fixing the redirect in iQue (which previously led directly to Nintendo_iQue); note to self: should check "what links here" everytime; One observation: I think it should read "Nintendo_Ique|iQue Player" instead of "Nintendo_Ique|iQue", but that's realy minor. thanks again ; PS- RE("but the content of iQue itself has vanished")- previous content was a redirect to Nintendo_Ique, I found that unfair, as Nintendo Ique is a product for (only) the chinese market, while the Garmin iQue is a worldwide distributed product and a new, expanding technology.Qyd 17:52, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Ice Roads

Not to question, but your addition to ice roads, would it be better placed in the winter road article? The ice roads refered to are built exclusively on ice, frozen lakes and rivers. One in Alberta, which I'm not sure is still built was across Lake Athabasca from Fort Chip to Uranium City. Lommeri 09:29, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Cities in Romania

Hello,

Thx for helping in the job of adding the Infobox on the cities in Romania. As you might have seen, here is the category containing them: Category:Cities in Romania, and the greater ones (municipalities) have their own category: Category:Municipalities in Romania. Generaly, all the municipalities have a page with a infobox added, and the most important have also the locator map (county capitals at least). In the Cities in Romania category, I've added the infobox in all the existing cities from A to N and as you can see in the list List of cities in Romania (alphabetical) there are some (not many) missing. I've found a quite useful site containing infos about the city halls it is www.ghidulprimariilor.ro, and also I have the resuklts of the last elections on PDF format, you could e-mail me and I'll send them to you if you want. If you have any questions about the Infobox Template don't hesitate to ask me, I help made it.

Also I don't know if you have found out yet, here are two links Portal:Romania/New article announcements and Wikipedia:Romanian Wikipedians' notice board about romania related articles. We would like you to add a link to every newly created Romania related article there.

thanks; what I've been doing was just edit existing articles, by adding locator maps where they were missing, and checking (and often correcting) the geographical coordinated; I've also started to port over some info in the ro-wiki (ironically, often articles on the en-wiki are more comprehensive than on the ro one); i'll try to check out the 2 links, thanks. aaaah, I forgot to mention, the coordinates I usualy get them from Google Earth, because they are the correct ones on the links from kvalenberg.com. I tried the official ones in some cases but they were sometimes off by between a few kilometers to a few degrees (counties - a link in Buzau was shown close to Fagaras). I use the ones from the Digital Chart of the World, for city level they are accurate enough Qyd

Map consistency

I see that you have been adding some maps to the communities in Alberta. This is good since I have been doing likewise. However, there should be some measure of consistency in our maps, don't you think? I started with a map that was drawn with the Sask border at an angle. Some of yours were the same. Lately you are using a map with a vertical Sask border. I have been using a light pink background (color: #FFC0C0). Most of yours have been white, but you have recently chosen to use a yellow. I left the electoral district white with the rest of the province in pink; but you are coloring the entire province. Also, your red dot is much larger than the one I am using.

Do you think we can come up with a good compromise that shows consistency? Cadillac 17:04, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Two reasons why I started over with a new template. One is the suspicion of copyvio. The map at an angle seems to be an edit of this map linked from Statistics Canada. Here are the copyright conditions.
Second: The map at an angle has that angle because of the projection used to display all of Canada, including the northern territories. It's kind of strange to have latitude displayed in an oblique fashion, the standard is normally north up.
Take the yellow straith map as a proposal, I could replace the images if you think the white one are more appropriate. Let me know of your decision. Cheers Qyd 17:39, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate your rationale. However the commons image is not proportional. While the lower and upper latitude lines are horizontal, the Sask border line has to be slanted a little. As a result, I have drawn (free-hand using Paint Shop Pro and some sweat) a map that I would like you to consider as a base map: commons:Image:Alberta.png. As for color, I'd like to see a lighter color, i.e., pale yellow would be fine with me.Cadillac 21:27, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

Alberta locator maps

I am really unhappy with the new maps. They look second rate compared to other provinces and states. Firstly, they are at a terrible resolution. Secondly, they are way larger than they need to be. The grey is too dark too. I also do not see the point in shading in the the division behind the cities. It is not usueful information and it just causes clutter. I mean, they do not correspond to metropolitan areas or anything so what's the point? I am working new versions for you to look at. They should be much cleaner. --Arch26 16:47, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

While Arch26 may have some valid personal preference, the Calgary map is not pleasing to me at all. I like the map that Qyd has done with the electoral district in red and the city/town in a yellow square. Arch26's Calgary map shows a much too large city. Calgary ain't that big :) and the two-tone grey is artificial. Alberta deserves some color, so I vote for Qyd's approach. Cadillac 00:01, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I was seduced by the ideea of having maps with grey surfaces and white boundaries, as they have for the standard country locator maps (see commons:Category:Country_locator_maps). I also had a comment on commons:Category talk:Locator maps of cities in Alberta about how fractured the division boundaries are; I do believe that thicker lines would mask this jaggedness, resulting in a more pleasent look. As for highlighted division: yes, it's just eye-candy, but there's nothing wronmg with that, as long as the information is correct. I used red highlighted census divisions for towns(lo res img's) and cities(hi res img's), dark grey for villages, and no highlight for hamlets. (I'm still in the process of replacing all village locator maps with grey ones). Qyd 01:19, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

I used a projection derived directly from a government (stats can) map. I did not redraw it at all, just manipulated the vector data. The southern border is so curved...! Anyway, I can't see how how my information could be wrong, as it was taken straight from the source. That aside, I can do whatever to it. I can make white borders with grey fill, shadows, whatever. Although I know you have done a huge amount of work, I just think mine looks more professional and is more accurate. I am much more concerned about issues such as resolution than I am with colours. I just think blocky lines are unacceptable. Anyway... you've done a lot of work and I can't expect you to change them all. But as a final plug, I WILL help you, and I am willing to bend on issues of colour, etc. If not, then I will just live with what's there. --Arch26 06:49, 14 March 2006 (UTC)

BC locator maps

I see you have been replacing the locator maps for Regional Districts and municipalities in BC. But...is that a Mercator projection of BC? Do the other provinces/states use this projection? --maclean25 19:18, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

I beleive the data it is UTM using WGS84 ellipsoid datum. The previous maps seemed to be based on a crop of Image:Censusdivisions.PNG and/or Image:Canada_provinces_blank_vide.png (both excellent projections for Canada, but BC-only looks terribly tilted). The same type of tilted maps were used in AB, but most are replaced now. Qyd 20:01, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

There have been two previous versions (since I've been around): Image:Chetwynd.PNG (from WikiDon) and Image:Chetwynd bc red dot.png (from EarlAndrew) - with modifications to add Canada mini-map by me. I thought the latter map came from here but Image:Censusdivisions.PNG explains where the tilt came from. --maclean25 21:14, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

I just did a bit of "making it look good" on Merritt, British Columbia and Houston, British Columbia, with the following:

I see you are adding coordinate headers on the BC municipality articles. However, the coordinates are already within the infoboxes. See Hudson's Hope, British Columbia. Was this intentional? --maclean25 01:23, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

Sherritt are still in Moa. The Cubans have been trying to get foreigners involved in one of their other nickel plants. A company linked to the British/South African company Flemings spent a while in discussions, only to have the deal offered to the Chinese instead. Word is that things are not going well between the Cuban and Chinese teams on that, though.

Template:Coor title dms changes

The changes you made in Template:Coor title dms here completely loose the purpose of this template, please change back to allowing absolute position. Qyd^(talk)18:39, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

They are still using absolute position; the only difference is that the CSS was moved from inline CSS (which was breaking on other skins) to MediaWiki:Monobook.css (which will be used only on Monobook). If you are not seeing the effect, clear your cache, as I indicated on the edit summary. --cesarb 18:42, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

IUCN Categories for BC Provincial Parks

Are you just guessing on those, because I don't see where on the BC Parks website that they are listing under what categories their parks fall. Infobox

Are you okay with the new infobox? It's based on BC's new infobox (as I see you've found out as I forgot to change some things). If you are, do you want to help me implement it? So far it's on Calgary, Red Deer, and Edmonton. I think it's much cleaner and simpler than the old Canadian City infobox, and it is more consistent with U.S. cities and with BC. --Arch26 00:17, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately the parameter names are fairly different. However, I think they are simpler, and the Canadian city templete had some strange stuff in it. It was so badly modified, customized, and adulterated for different municipalities anyway, that I am not really opposed to changing it all out. Yeah, some things need to be changed, but I think I caught the big ones (eg/ census div. vs. regional district). Also, some things are missing that should be replaced, such as links to the lists of largest Canadian cities and a space for the "motto". Shouldn't be too hard. --Arch26 00:27, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
