Wilderness Diarrhea Getting Killed

Pradiptaray:

Am contacting you due to your interest in naturalism and the outdoors. (have opened page on Satyajit Ray from your page; gotta learn about that guy).

Dunno, but it seems remotely possible you'd be interested in this. Wilderness Diarrhea is getting merged into Travelers Diarrhea by a couple of zealots who seem to have no concept of outdoor interests.

I get around a lot in the outdoors and rarely treat water, but WD article had some good stuff.

After a couple of weeks of calm discussion, I went ballistic and no longer want to participate. Rational voices might help.

These guys have irrationally convinced themselves that WD isn't a legitimate topic for a Wikipedia article.

I've pointed out several bomb-proof arguements to no avail. I'd say the strongest is the vast number of published articles that discuss WD as a separate concern from TD. They are both environmental health topics, and obviously the context of each are far different.

Question; many years ago I saw a film (on television) and there was a scene of a young boy watching a puppet that had like, christmas lightbulbs for eyes -- something very magical but not technically very sophisticated in terms of special effects. Does this ring a bell as far as sayajit ray?

Also, I saw a film at Lincoln Center (walter reede auditorium) that was done around the late 1940s and emphasized pseudo-classical Indian dance. In the film, its main character was supposed to be touring India to raise money for a national arts center by providing these performances. He would give these little lectures about Indian nationalism and non-sectarianism. I enjoyed it very much but this afternoon haven't been able to find what it's called.Calamitybrook (talk) 18:34, 25 September 2008 (UTC)

Indian Cinema

Now I've got a bug about it and spent a half hour trying to look it up with no luck. Lotsa stuff out there. Yeah... it was sorta Bollywood, but had lots of propaganda about nationalism and the new nation etc...Maybe the music and dance was a bit more highbrow than the average Bollywood film too, but I'm not certain about that..Oh well....

At the moment am staying at Michigan State U., and will see if they have that Ray trilogy....

Kathryn White

Hello Pradiptaray

A couple of years back you kindly created a stub for me for my wife, Kathyrn White, who is a successful children's author here in England. I was very grateful for your help because I had tried and failed to create a page myself.

Yesterday I discovered that the page had been deleted.

After some research I found that a user User:Alexf had deleted the page last year without our knowing it.

Alexf claims to have done so because Kathryn was not notable enough. Can users have such power these days on Wikipedia to make such uninformed decisions?

I have looked at the guidelines for notability which state (in relation to authors) -

"Authors What authors get their own articles? Probably almost all non-self-published authors, per bio guidelines that specify Published authors, editors, and photographers who have written books with an audience of 5,000 or more or in periodicals with a circulation of 5,000 or more"

Kathryn seems easlily to fulfil these guidelines, with over 20 titles published here in the UK, one of which, Here Comes the Crocodie, I belive sold in excess of 25,000 copies.

Could you possibly advise me on how I can get this page restored?

During the daytime, we're going to be having a photo contribution drive where anyone can bring in their digital photos or prints and Wikipedians will teach people how to upload them and add them to articles, and maybe introduction to Wikipedia workshops as well. Then in the evening, we'll have fun at the Carson City Saloon. There will be free Wikipedia t-shirts and other goodies, as well. See the Pittsburgh meetup page for more details. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant!
